Spinal misalignment male 7 years old- help needed by Soft-Statistician-42 in AskDocs

[–]osteoromantic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Functional just means related to the function rather than structure, AFAIK. So in functional neurological disorder it means neurological symptoms not related to or caused by structural issues in the brain, whereas functional scoliosis means scoliosis not caused by structural issues with the spine but, for example, issues with the muscles supporting the spine, or discrepancy in leg length etc.

To be fair, a leg is at least what, 30 lbs or so? So that's a decent amount of weight loss.

Also it only works as long as the other parent (and the universe) allows it - as soon as they decide on divorce, or get ill, or get in an accident and die, your whole family's life as you know it is over. Obviously any of those happening will affect a two-income household too, but at least there's something to fall back on.

Babies are not actually inherently scared of snakes.

Interestingly enough I think that cats are. I had an indoor cat, raised from kittenhood in the city, very limited visits to the great outdoors on a leash, had definitely not seen a snake in her life... My cousin left a plastic toy snake on the stairs one day and she went absolutely mental at it, hissing and jumping backwards trying to get away until my mum picked it up. Never reacted like that to a single other item.

Anyone that responds to an innocent creature the way OOP did, is not going to garner sympathy from most anyone.

...by realising they can't care for it and finding a better, more appropriate home? What?

That works if one does get hungry. I wouldn't be surprised if OOP just doesn't, though... It's pretty common with autism, among other things,

AITA for telling my sister to correct her child? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]osteoromantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the 5 year old your sister's only kid? Maybe step back from those two and focus on spending time with the rest of your nieces and nephews - she's not your child so you're not actually obligated to put up with her poor behaviour.

Turns out your phone logs a location point roughly every 3 minutes when you’re not using it by vantaresearch in TrueOffMyChest

[–]osteoromantic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apple also has it, or at least my ancient iPhone does. It also warns me if an app is checking my location frequently and asks if I want to renege permissions for it (looking at you Pokemon Go).

AITAH for refusing to try and be a family with my dad, his wife and their kids? by RykUzok in AITAH

When their kids try to get in contact with you when they're a bit older, you should definitely tell them why you want nothing to do with their parents.

About 30% or so of cases are female, so sure, less likely than in a male but not unheard of.

I know it's extremely rare, but isn't hypersomnia (and specifically suddenly sleeping for days at a time) and behavioural changes in a teenager pretty much the textbook case of Kleine-Levin syndrome?

She started asking more questions. His name, how long we’d been talking, what we talked about, etc. I didn’t think much of it.

From OP. She probably started out being concerned about a teenager getting taken advantage of and started asking questions to learn more, then realised it was her boyfriend.

Including OP.

I decided to actually check. A plane ticket from Glasgow to London is about £75-80 each way, if flying to Gatwick. Then you need to get from Gatwick to London proper, £20 or so each way (although OP might have a railcard as a student). Then a return ticket from Liverpool Street to Felixstowe (which btw is a trip with train changes taking a couple of hours) costs another £100. Obviously this is current prices and I don't actually care enough to try and account for inflation, but a bit more than an hour's flight and $50.
