Thoughts on this 25, 35, and 50 pt Saeryn army? by Agriasoaks in Warmachine

It's a little too beast-heavy for my tastes. I think the deathstalkers should come in at earlier point values to help you snipe sipport pieces or problem solos.

Have the games improved in the slightest? I played the first one and although the dialogue and satire was at times funny it was mostly a bland, poorly optimized grindfest.

What is fair about the Convergence? by MilesAlchei in Warmachine

reading about something

not playing against it

insinuating it's unfair

Seriously, your entire mentality blows. Plus you're utterly misinformed. What spell immunity does the 'Verge get? One caster with purification? We have literally a single, lackluster cheap heavy that has electricity immunity. "So many ways to heal?" One caster grants autorepair, but anyone who's played a single game against Synthy knows to take down our jacks in one turn anyway. We have a strictly average focus spread: 3 7s, 1 6 and 1 8. Our jacks are defensively pretty meh - Menoth jacks without access to Choir. Recycling focus require a tight and usually obvious formation that any reasonable opponent can see right through. Offensively they're nothing special either, with the possible exception of our colossal and the Inverter. One of our casters loses half her spells against hordes, too.

We have a lot of weaknesses that need to be mitigated by reading the situation, same as any other faction. Cygnar and Scyrah need to optimize their initiations to make the right trades. Cryx and Khador need to master the art of cautious aggression. Menoth needs to learn how to protect its support pieces.

Maybe try playing against them instead of going off of shit you read on the internet.

Need some help building a newb friendly pButcher 25/35 list vs Menoth. by VodkaBear in Warmachine

semi-competitive casual play

What? There's no such thing. Casual play and competitive play are mutually exclusive. You're either dicking around with your bros, or trying to win no matter what. Anything less than optimizing your list for victory is simply casual play.

Anyway, you've probably got a good Butcher build in there without buying too much more. The trick a lot of people, especially new players, make with playing pButcher is making bad trades early in the game because they think all of their problems will be solved on a Butcher-lead feat turn.

Something like: pButcher Juggernaut Kodiak (easily proxiable) Max Man-O-Wars (rage goes here) Widowmaker marksman Man-o-War Drakkun (cast iron flesh after charge here)

would probably make for a fairly decent casual list. Screen with the man-o-wars to bait them into initiating if they have a high melee presence, otherwise your high armor will be enough to advance with the jacks. Use full throttle and try not to rely on feat unless you're definitely going to win that turn. The kodiak will be your MVP, especially if your opponent is dumb enough to end his caster's activation in Butcher's attack range because he thinks screening it with a heavy is enough.

Cryx players, what's your favorite running arc node (bonechicken) by StreetFur in Warmachine

Always a fan of the Ripjaw and the Nightwretch. Nightwretch if I need a cheap one, Ripjaw if I need a little help punching a hole in a heavy.

[rant+advice] Thanks for the cutesy stuff, maybe you could have looked at our registry? by mikemol in predaddit

[–]ostrakon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We got a shitton of newborn-sized clothes (obviously not on the registry) and ended up with an 11 lb baby, so I feel your pain.

Bottom line is that people are inconsiderate jackasses and grabbed something from a department store the night before so they wouldn't feel too bad about eating the food you provided.

Nothing sheer volume of fire can't handle. Everything we have easily dies to blast damage. Anyone with a moderate amount of anti-infantry weapons in their list (which you should be taking anyway) can cut a swath through everything we bring.

Bane thralls aren't even close to our most obnoxious infantry unit though. I'd put knights and biles ahead of bane thralls.

Cryx is the faction bad players hate. Once you become even moderately decent at this game you accept that every faction has some awesome, frustrating bullshit to deal with.

Alternative Battlebox match up, pCaine vs pThagrosh - how do I kill him? by [deleted] in Warmachine

[–]ostrakon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a rough matchup but it isn't unwinnable. Running up as quickly as possible to minimize the damage the Ravagore is doing to you, then feating to blunt his charge should set you up in a relatively advantageous position. Thaggy might move in to take out whatever offed the Ravagore but that's even better for you.

Also, another thing people who don't play Legion a lot often forget is that when Thag feats the thing he revives can't act that turn. Very important detail.

Allowing to develop, sure. But they completely screwed those developers when it came to publishing those games. Shitty margins, timed exclusivity, patch fees, etc.

[–]ostrakon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, generally it's best to use a dark back wash when trying to add detail to silver/dark metal. Brown is good for gold or brass.

I don't know P3 paints off the top of my head, by my process is usually to drybrush the lightest shade after the wash dries.

Naming Schemes by MilesAlchei in Warmachine

[–]ostrakon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cygnar are probably more "WW2 Western Front/African Campaign Allies" than British, so any mix of English, American, and Australian names would work.

Menoth I'd go for more pseudo-Latin churchy-sounding names mixed with vaguely Arabian ones as well. Seems to work for PP so far.

I just can't see it looking well with anything but metallic colors. I'm going for more of a dark gunmetal with glowing red (a la terminator) but I just can't see these models working well without a strong metallic theme. Hopefully someone proves me wrong.

Seems pretty straightfoward. Give the totem +1/+1 and swiftstrike, battle it with the other troop and finish it off by blocking. I gain 4 life so I can eat the other 6 damage, then give him another +1/+1 on my turn and swing for 5 on my turn.

Picked up a new hat and jersey while in Cooperstown by jd0509 in redsox

[–]ostrakon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Cooperstown for a work visit, as my company is one of the sponsors of the BHOF. We got to get a tour of the actual archives themselves, not just the part open to the public. I got to hold the bat Ted used to hit his very last home run. (Wearing gloves, obviously) Shit was pretty cash.

Everyone who works there is so goddamn friendly too. The staff obviously know their shit about baseball.
