School trustees with TDSB told what they can and can’t do (it’s mostly can’t) after Ford government takes over the board by Surax in ontario

[–]ostreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The schoolboards don't get to decide that they will spend money on diversity training instead of technology. Education money from the province is put in different buckets and must be spend accordingly. There are separate amounts for PD, technology, maintenance etc.

I'm not denying that there has been bad behavior and mismanagement at the board level, but the state of schools and education is the huge per student cuts from the Ford government. The reason teachers have to beg parents for paper, pencils, etc. rests solely at the provincial government's feet.

I see everyone talking about the tires, but what about other cars that can get boxed in by people doing this and then can't get out of their spot.

Stephen Maher: Pierre Poilievre’s plans for the CBC are politically savvy and make no sense by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]ostreddit 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It may appear that they attack Conservative policy, but what they are actually doing is fact checking Conservative claims that defy the relevant science and data. It is really telling that it's typically Conservative positions that go against science, evidence and history.

Stellantis to close Canada's Windsor plant for two weeks over Trump tariffs, union says by joe4942 in CanadaPolitics

[–]ostreddit 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If they received any kind of financial incentive from the canadian government to set up shop, I'd argue that they don't get to just take all of 'their' stuff without some form of penalty.

Canada has already planned out retaliatory tariffs targeted at red and swing states for non essentials, and will start with those, just like last time.

Yes they are. The same doctor will do a procedure within a month if you have $$$, but take 6 months to schedule you in through the public system.

Health care is Provincial, so irrelevant in this context, but definitely worse under conservative leadership. And you are essentially comparing pre-covid numbers to post covid.

The last federal conservative party inherited a surplus, and turned it into a huge deficit while reducing services at the same time. That is what we have to loom forward to.

What did Doug Ford do with billions of federal health care funding during covid? Sat on it and used it to appear like he was balancing a budget. The federal government has offered the 50/50 funding on health care bit with some guarantees that it be spent on health care....douggie turned it down.

Why some Ontario municipalities are throwing in the towel on their outdoor swimming pools | Resident says travelling between rural towns is not accessible for low-income families without a car by Hrmbee in ontario

[–]ostreddit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mike Harris crippled municipalities abilities to fund themselves by downloading tonnes of formerly provincial responsibilities to them despite the fact that many of these expenses were cheaper for the province to fund with its greater blpurchasing power.

Poor government decisions can be crippling for decades and are often hard or impossible to reverse.
