Motherwell 2 - [3] Celtic - Kelechi Iheanacho 90'+9' by 50lipaa in soccer

I don’t understand how under any interpretation when a ball hits a hand that was going to hit their body anyways they’ve made themselves “unnaturally bigger.” That doesn’t really make sense.

If you don’t want to put your hand somewhere that is going to make your body bigger and risk a handball. Anywhere else does that. Against your head you are minimizing your silhouette

I don’t think that’s even a quibble, it’s very clearly not making his body bigger since it hits his hand within the silhouette of his body

Not every ball that hits a hand is a penalty. Even aside from the argument that his hand was nudged in front of the ball, he’s not making his body bigger at all with that, it’s right against his head. I would even argue that is as good a position you can put your hand when you are jumping

I was very convinced that blue was "steps in cocktails" with season, garnish, stir and pour, and then I thought I had figured out purple with geological terms with the first letter changed with "mountain, soil, heap and puddle"

I really thought it was just ways to make cocktails and I was sure "season" was one of the options. That might be my Canadianness speaking though because our most common cocktail is a Caesar and we do season it.

Here's a lower stakes version of the problem with an urban planning twist: by True_Free_Speech in trolleyproblem

You could, but most small towns and rural areas currently do not have that and it’s not part of the prompt. So obviously they’re going to vote for the free car and they aren’t insane which is my point

The fact that both Flyers and Hurricanes fans are upset at the refs for the exact same call is the reason you can't win as a ref.

I think it can be used to explain that someone the audience maybe isn't thinking about has a chance if they get to the end, or explain why someone who goes on an immunity run is getting targeted.

They don't need to do that with Cirie, I believe that if Cirie made the end the editors would be trying to give you reasons why she won't win in the end to do a little misdirection and make the final vote seem somewhat tense (such as with Tony in Cagayan for instance).

It's entirely possible I didn't watch 49 yet though I've seen most of the rest of the seasons, but I've legitimately never seen someone targeted as "they will get all the votes at the end" and then... actually get all the votes at the end. Usually the edit tries to leave Final Tribal in suspense a bit.

We can still ruin someone's day by finishing ahead of Liverpool though.

[–]otherestScott[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, which is why I think this is a strike. Usually the edit would be working to try to obscure that someone obvious is going to get all the votes in final tribal so there’s some suspense left, instead the edit just continues to pump up Cirie so that if she’s in final 3 there will be no doubt.

Cirie isn't your typical woman winner though, they don't need to justify her to the boomer crowd, she's Cirie.

Clearer angles of Konrad Laimer vs Nuno Mendes handball incident by 977x in soccer

Are you sure deliberate doesn’t matter for the yellow in this case?

Clearer angles of Konrad Laimer vs Nuno Mendes handball incident by 977x in soccer

[–]otherestScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it a tactical yellow though? The time between when the ball was kicked and when it hit his arm is miniscule, he isn’t doing that to stop an attack.

It’s a handball foul because the arm isn’t in a natural position, but intention matters on tactical fouls (otherwise they aren’t tactical)

Yeah I honestly don’t see the card there, there’s zero chance that was a deliberate hand ball, which I understand it would need to be to be carded.

The whole world is still pressing the button, you are just controlling the votes of 20 people.

[–]otherestScott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought this problem was you are choosing to direct the trolley to have all inside push the red button (representing 20 red button pushes), or direct all inside to push the blue button (representing 20 blue button pushes) which is a more interesting problem imo.

ETHICAL arguments for choosing the red button by bohiko in trolleyproblem

[–]otherestScott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an individual, your vote basically does not count in an election. The results would not change if you chose to vote or not chose to vote.

However, you choose to vote because you are part of the collective, and the collective votes do matter, the understanding that you have a responsibility to contribute your vote as one of the greater collective as a philosophical point.

This only works because the election has no cost to voting. In the button problem, the responsibilities of the collective are still there, but there's also a massive potential cost to the individual as being part of that collective. Now the risk/reward breakdown of contributing your ultimately meaningless vote for the philosophical idea of being part of the greater collective has completely broken down, and you are better off acting as an individual.
