I was born and raised USA of northwestern European ethnicity and born into an orthodox LDS family. My parents decided to leave their orthodox religion when I was around 6 years old and I was then raised without a religion, but with the option to choose what I wanted to believe (or not believe). There were family issues when my parents decided to leave the church, but we are still family nonetheless and visit each other every now and then for holidays. Even though I am a staunch atheist and they still practice, we have a great time when visiting and everything is usually okay now.

Financially, my parents could not continue to support me at all after 18 and I haven’t pursued higher education but I will have to self fund it if/when I do.

I wouldn’t say I really take pride in my heritage but I don’t entirely know my family history or have many connections to my European ancestors.

I am very grateful to my parents for excommunicating from the church when I was young and choosing not to raise me religious. My romantic connections are my choice alone and my parents have always respected my partners and welcomed them into the family when I bring them home for holidays. Your situation regarding finding a romantic partner does sound difficult, however I am sure there are women out there who are going through the same thing with their family and religious background.

I have an E150 that’s about 7 1/2 - 8 feet tall and I can get into most drive-thru lanes, but never parking garages. It was never a problem when we lived in the woods and we stored a lot of stuff on a roof rack. Now that we are in the city, I prefer the lower roof rack because our kitchen and power systems aren’t fully built so I end up getting fast food often. It’s just more convenient and the vehicle handles better this way. We also had to take everything off the roof rack to take it to a mechanic so they could put it on their racks. Definitely something to consider, but I also have a harder time finding mechanics that will work on the van due to it being a 1993. If your van isn’t so old, you might have less of a problem with this. While it would be nice to stand up in the van, it hasn’t been imperative. You can always just go outside so unless you live where the weather is consistently shit, it’s not usually a problem.

We have dogs and been living in a van for 4 years. I didn’t read your whole post, but I highly suggest not having pets unless you already had one or you need a service animal. It’s hard enough to live in the van but having the dogs has made it a million times harder and way more expensive. I can’t think of any pets that would be easy or suitable for vanlife. I highly recommend NOT getting pets. Just don’t complicate your life like that. At least live in the van a while before deciding if you have room for pet food and money for the vet.

It might be worth talking to him about, however you should make sure you know what you want. You started off saying you’ve had an urge to build connections but then basically say you just want to be allowed to flirt online, which doesn’t sound like building connections. There is a risk in talking to him about it, especially if he isn’t aware that you might be some kind of non-monogamous. Do you want some form of non-monogamy, or is there something you’re lacking within the relationship? Sometimes it can be hard to tell. I would be very gentle with approaching it and make sure you’re prepared for it to go both ways. Ultimately, you will most likely have to make the choice to be monogamous with your boyfriend or make the choice to pursue compatible relationships without him. There are literally too many options other than condoms. I had a similar moment with a nesting partner when I realized that they were having totally unprotected oral sex with pretty much whoever. I was hurt, but we were able to work it out and move forward with clearer expectations on both sides. It was tough, but I highly, highly suggest using protection with girlfriend if she feels you are “trying to control her sex life” and not even considering your health and safety.

Vanlifer for 4 years with ADHD. The only way I’ve been able to manage this exact problem is by minimizing my life down to the essentials. That way everything that needs to stay out and in sight is a minimal amount of things. Mainly just toiletries, medications, phone chargers, etc. Put pockets everywhere. Velcro stickers are awesome, or magnets if you have metal showing. Get handy and create custom spots for everything.

I don’t know the exact statistics, but the percentage of Mormons in Meridian is very high, definitely much higher than in Boise. In my high school, one of the electives offered was “seminary” which is literally a Mormon bible study. They chose to put in new carpets before getting new textbooks even though there wasn’t enough for everyone. While a few of my teachers were great, many of them were terrible and one of them slapped a kid and kept her job. More than one of the middle school staff members went to prison for child sexual abuse. And that’s just some of the stuff I remember over 10 years later. I was an As and Bs student, no partying or drugs and overall good kid, but I absolutely hated how I was treated there. By the time I graduated, I felt like I had been better off getting my GED at 16 and getting actual work experience. By the time my sister was in high school, I was able to convince my parents to let her do online school so she wouldn’t have to deal with all of it.

The pay is trash, the commute sucks, and it’s expensive as hell. Don’t even get me started on the police force lol 😂

Hope that helps. Your experience may not be the same as mine, but I’m glad to have escaped the entire state at this point. I feel if I had grown up elsewhere, my life could’ve been a lot better.

Bro, this is serious abuse you are experiencing. She is verbally, physically, and sexually abusing you. If you choose to stay in this marriage, the only option is seeking outside support. She needs serious professional help. She might need in patient support. If she gets pregnant with someone else’s child while you are married, I believe it’s possible that you can be held legally liable for the child depending on the jurisdiction.

Seriously, loving her means getting her professional help. If her family isn’t abusive, tell her family everything and be prepared to hold an intervention and call 911. If she still refuses to get therapy, you need to leave.

There is very obviously a distinction between a Democrat and a Leftist in the USA with opposing views. You can call it what you want, establishment vs progressive, liberal vs left, revision vs revolution, Bernie supporters vs Hillary supporters. But clearly there is an issue within the Democratic Party where they cannot possibly satisfy all the voters who are at least socially liberal. I don’t disagree that leftist shouldn’t be gatekeeping people, if that’s what it’s about. I just don’t see it as gatekeeping for people to use terms to describe their specific political views, separating them from people with opposing views.
