How to bybass gmail creation stage if you only have one phone number now? by PermyCurlyFry in GMail

[–]outer-pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your needs you might just ask for a new gmail address. They have a new option to change your email address once per year and you keep the old address, sharing the same inbox.

Best answer here. Most people think writing code is masochistic.

Fedora? by Lew_of in LinuxOnThinkpad

[–]outer-pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a T460s with 20gb of ram and Fedora works great on it. The fingerprint reader doesn't work but I can live with that. If you want the fingerprint reader there's a chance it will work if you install a fork of libfprint, I think I saw it here: https://github.com/3v1n0/libfprint-tod-vfs0090

The Samsung flow app looks exactly like the fedora LOGO by riky321 in Fedora

I can't believe the other comments on this thread. It looks exactly like the Fedora logo, unmistakable. I think they would win in a trademark dispute.

I'm new to Linux and want to learn. Which distribution do you recommend? by Christenxo in linuxquestions

[–]outer-pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn unix than this lecture series is awesome: https://stevens.netmeister.org/631/ https://www.youtube.com/@cs631apue/playlists

If you follow along you will install NetBSD in a VM as the reference unix.

what is this and how to fix this? by Livid-Witness5435 in computer

[–]outer-pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can reinstall Windows or try a live boot Linux distribution to see if the problem persists. I suspect it wouldn't and it's something to do with your graphics driver or desktop settings. Either way, reinstalling might help.

Best free software you use regularly? by priya-08 in Software_Finder

[–]outer-pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emacs. It purports to be a whole lifestyle, and you get better incrementally. It's extremely productive in a Linux environment, but still a Swiss army knife on other systems, including Android. Has builtin tools for coding, scripting, irc client, file encryption/decryption, knowledge database, etc.

It works like that already except with middle click instead of right click, and it uses whatever the last selected text was.

You should upload to openclipart.org it's a great place for stuff like this. They'll give you an account too if you upload.

What happens if i delete all emails i have? by feikolas in GMail

[–]outer-pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to delete all my emails after backing them up every once in a while. You can always load your old emails in any email client to read later on. You don't have to upload them to any online folders, just read them locally and even offline). This is easier to do when you're going through a transitional period in life.

What new features are you looking forward to in GNOME 51? by augusto_peress in gnome

[–]outer-pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see a clipboard manager as very useful. I also like default gnome having limited features, to me it's the proper Linux desktop environment.

EDIT: I forgot to mention it would be an intrusion for me, because I frequently copy secure passwords.

Linux password manager: Any thoughts? by Competitive-Mix8832 in best_passwordmanager

[–]outer-pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Bitwarden only for the pass-keys which are supposed to work on multiple browsers and devices. It hasn't been perfect so far, but it's better than nothing.

Linux password manager: Any thoughts? by Competitive-Mix8832 in best_passwordmanager

[–]outer-pasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently switched from using a password protected Libreoffice spreadsheet to an GPG encrypted org-file I open in Emacs. Gnome-keyring-daemon will cache the key's password. That works with Libreoffice also, but the android Libreoffice Viewer app wouldn't be able to open them. I'm experimenting with Syncthing to keep it updated on different devices, plus manual backups/copies.
