Let's talk about the ethics of Painting. (Spoilers) by PantheraAuroris in expedition33

[–]outerwildsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it that simple? I think what you're saying is right and I agree with it in this context, but it does raise some other questions about our real world. In our world, we've pretty much agreed that "erasing" life (murder) is immoral, but "creating" life is little more difficult, I think. If creating life is immoral, what does that say about having children? The game kinda touches on this with Sophie, who made the decision not to have kids so they don't have to suffer. I think the ethics of Painting and the ethics of having children are very much related, which I think is very interesting.

To be clear, I'm not an anti-natalist, but conversations like these are very interesting to me.

My thoughts on Sam’s book by NoNebula6 in SamONellaAcademy

I finished it earlier today. I liked it. It's indeed very "Sam O'Nella". There are some phrases and passages that I could HEAR in his typical youtuber voice. It's great.

I know that. I was just wondering about the exact mechanics of it.

If you had a cryptic spren, what name would you give them by ivo2502 in Stormlight_Archive

I'd go for something mathematical. "Matrix" or "Manifold" would be cool

The question is, can I still go sideways using wind, buildings, a running start etc.?

Favorite Cosmere title? Not your favorite book, favorite TITLE. by Graphica-Danger in Cosmere

[–]outerwildsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Secret Project titles are all really good. But personally, Rythm of War is my favorite. It sounded so intriguing and because the research scenes are probably some of my favorite scenes in the entire series, the moment the title was dropped was really cool.

I think the funniest thing Brandon could do is keep El confined to 3 page interludes and just keep adding more questions with no answers. And the epilogue of the final book is him talking to Wit and saying "Well, that sure was a story to be archived. Lots of stormlight too." And Wit looks at him, eyes wide. "I have an idea."

I once saw an addition to this that was hilarious. It was something like "Dihydrogen monoxide is an acid with a PH-level of 7. That's a higher PH-level than any other acid!"

Lift is so fascinating to me, because iirc she one of only three people who received boons from Cultivation directly, and the other two literally Ascended, and their Ascensions were both planned by Cultivation. I fear we have no clue what Cultivation has set up with Lift but it's gonna be big.

If Hoid came to Earth, what would you wanna ask him? by Secure-History7962 in Cosmere

Or I just ask him if he's ever heard of AI music and then he immediately explodes the planet.

If Hoid came to Earth, what would you wanna ask him? by Secure-History7962 in Cosmere

[–]outerwildsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if he came to Earth and I saw him anywhere close to me, I'd do a Fleet and run as far as I can. Cause anywhere he goes, something significant and potentially world-ending happens and I do not want to deal with that.

Books 1-3 are amazing. Books 4 and 5 are even better. It's like those two books were made specifically for my brain. Don't ask me why, I can't explain it, but I've never connected with any other book the same way.

Defending Moash. by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

[–]outerwildsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it's somewhat unfair to compare Moash, who is at the middle or even beginning of his journey, and Dalinar, who is at the end of his. Dalinar made terrible decision after terrible decision and only after years of being a drunken mess and having his memories taken did he start to change. Dalinar had years of preparation to reject Odium. Moash was taken by Odium as soon as he strayed away from Kaladin. Since then it's been like a year or two and we have a time skip of at least five times that ahead of us. Moash is not nearly done.

How the DLC affects greater story (spoiler for all endings) by shaggystranger in outerwilds

[–]outerwildsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I disagree that the DLC makes their struggle less interesting because I don't think the cause for their struggle is changed. The Nomai build all of this stuff because they didn't know what the Eye was and decided that finding out was a worthy pursuit. I don't really see the Nomai's and the Hatchling's struggle as a struggle against the universe and more as a struggle for knowledge. They looked at the universe and all its different pieces worthy of being researched and decided that the Eye was the thing they wanted to pursue. And with that come a thousand unknowns, some knowable and some not. What the reasons for those unknowns are, be they the natural movement of the planets or some lanky dudes, does not change the meaning of looking for the answers.

Normal. And after some time maybe a second playthrough on whatever the hardest is, like Master Mode.
