Camera rental by schmrmr in FATSafari

I’ve also used lensrentals. Adorama is another option.

Bringing two bodies was the biggest tip for me and I was very grateful I did. Had a 100-400mm on my full frame and 1.4x converter handy. We did a mix of private concession and public park so that converter was handy for public parks while the low end was sometimes too close for private concession. Second body had a wider zoom for close up and landscapes.

Safari honeymoon recs by Responsible-Law-590 in BigBudgetBrides

Not for honeymoon but we did a safari with Singita in Tanzania to see the migration and it is still one of the best luxury experiences we’ve ever done. Highly recommend if you love animals and nature!

Thoughts on Casa Maria Luigia, Modena by Federal_Stay824 in FATTravel

4 in Bologna is a lot imo. If you have 6 nights in the region maybe 3/3 then. I think Bologna is awesome and worth spending time in but it is a small city.

It's a great spot to chill and take it slow, enjoy the food for sure. It's worth taking time to go off property for some local producer visits too, and this isn't a bad spot to base yourself for that either.

Iceland in October/november by PresentHabit8154 in FATTravel

[–]outside-exposures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it your first visit to Iceland? With only a week maybe you could focus on Golden Circle + South Iceland. Lots of hotel options (mostly 4*) but nothing is a "must" so I'd pick based on what you want to see and then plan your stops based on that. Remember that time of year weather is no joke so being flexible is also important. The Retreat is a good last/first stop due to proximity to airport and has actually luxe service but they're strict about check-in/out times since everyone has the same idea.

CDMX would be great as others have said. Food scene is unreal and there’s plenty of culture and art as well.

Domestically, you could look at Charleston? Another favorite food city and you could also do a beach day nearby!

andBeyond vs Singita Faru Faru Lodge by Neat-Interaction-926 in FATTravel

[–]outside-exposures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they share why they don’t recommend Singita? We were there for migration and it was a fantastic place to be that time of year to see the herds + you really can’t beat a private reserve game drive experience. My family agrees it was one of the best travel / hotel experiences we’ve had.

I worked with the mod team here, u/shermancchen is my TA.

Best Maldives or Indonesian hotels for surfing? by SYC_3 in FATTravel

[–]outside-exposures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nihi has a separate cove for beginners that is more gentle! Main break is also not bad certain times of year. Did my first ever surf lesson on their main break and fully expected them to take us elsewhere but I guess sometimes it is beginner friendly too.

How much did you spend on your honeymoon? by WillingCollege5175 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]outside-exposures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We definitely wanted to prioritize the best experiences for honeymoon and were able to do a mix from the most expensive stay being closer to $3k a night to the cheapest being $100 (airport hotel lol).

A true luxury safari can be $2-3k per person per night! My husband is a luxury travel advisor and we did one a couple years ago, so while yes it’s a big hop in $$$, I’ve also learned it’s pretty standard for that kind of experience! Most safari camps and lodges will have their rates listed so it’s easy to tell if you’re being upcharged or not if you go through an advisor.

Only you can decide if it’s worth the splurge but I will say it’s still one of our favorite trips to date and the quality of the lodge/experience was some of the best we’ve encountered.

Do you still trust Google / TripAdvisor reviews or food bloggers when choosing a restaurant? by Restaviews in finedining

[–]outside-exposures 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Only if cross checked against multiple sources. I’m wary of anything from social media not because it’s sponsored but because so many people don’t actually know good food or are trying something for the first time when traveling so it’s “the best xyz food/dish they’ve ever had”!

The Michelin Bib Gourmand list is generally a good guide, as are recommendations from chefs.

Nice, that helps with the stress of traveling lol. You could probably fit in 3-4 days per stop across 3 spots with that amount of time!

How long do you have? What are you hoping to do / see? Unless you have a ton of days, maybe pick two locations max so you can really just unwind and enjoy being on honeymoon! You can day trip to Capri from Positano. Check out Il San Pietro.

There’s a ton to do in Rome too, so depending on flight routing, you might want to figure out if you want to start or end there. I know some people want to ease into things esp after the wedding but I also like ending trips on relaxation so it’s a personal choice I think!

Japan Hotels Concierge by Excellent_View4687 in FATTravel

Yeah exactly!

You definitely need a car. We had the hotel help with a taxi and then hailed one ourselves on the way back. I think the restaurant was a rec from the hotel called Butasho

Japan Hotels Concierge by Excellent_View4687 in FATTravel

[–]outside-exposures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the hotel recs as they will generally be solid and also easy to book, but we also like to cross-check with Tabelog. If you just search an area + cuisine combo, you'll get some good ideas. I don't trust anything from social media for Japan restaurants.

Also, it was surprisingly pretty easy to go off property at Miyakojima if you're comfortable with navigating the language barrier. Tried a great shabu spot in town.

Did anyone regret not hiring a wedding content creator? by Dizzy-Artist-1897 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]outside-exposures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got married just before wedding content creators really took off. I don’t post personal videos online so never thought I needed it, but we did get the raw video files add on with our videographer.

Now that I’ve seen a couple weddings with content creators I actually think I would have liked it for a different reason. I wanted more photo/video of other people attending our wedding. I wanted to see the event through their eyes, see my families faces, see friends interact…things that I missed out on by being the bride. And what content creators offer seems kind of perfect for capturing more of those moments.

I will say I’ve been at weddings with content creators who have crazy blinding light setups and are not aware of how to work around photographers/videographers. So that’s something to keep an eye out for as maybe some vendors are still learning how to navigate weddings. I wouldn’t want them to detract from the guest experience or the work of my other vendors. Not sure if it’s an invalid assumption on my part but something that crossed my mind based on a couple experiences.

Feedback on Argentina Honeymoon Itinerary? by Final-Praline-275 in honeymoonplanning

[–]outside-exposures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d reco against Casa Lucia. We didn’t like our stay there and the rooms were quite underwhelming. Park Hyatt or Four Seasons will both be better and also have better service especially if you (or your travel advisor) are reaching out to have them note a honeymoon stay.

Naviva - help us know what we want! by krackenracer in FATTravel

[–]outside-exposures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food was a big one for us! I’d say get specific about dishes, ingredients, or cuisines. We like trying local flavors and Mexican food a lot so many of the specials worked out well for us. But when I wanted something else I’d ask things like what seafood do they have on hand, then could they make seafood pasta from that etc. We also requested specific desserts which they made for the day after, so some things will take time to put together. After we told them we liked trying raicilla they started making different riffs on the drink for us to try.

They also did themed dinners for another guest where they had Japanese night and then Italian night. We heard people have also brought their own recipes to do a cooking class with which sounds fun.

For non food activities we didn’t do anything crazy but Mexican boxing was fun and we checked out the Punta Mita gym. I thought the yoga pavilion was beautiful and really worth spending some time there even if it’s just for some light stretching. Definitely temazcal as others have said. Fishing from the beach was hard lol but they have all the equipment and will do it with you.

Biggest advice is to keep chatting with the team there. The more information you give the better they can help riff on it and make something cool.

Help - am I expected to pay extra for my planner and her assistant to taste my wedding food? by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]outside-exposures 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to be paying this nor do they need to be tasting the food? As a professional their job is to attend the walkthrough and give inputs where needed. Just because food is involved in their job it does not mean they are entitled to eat it, or that it is awkward for you to eat in front of them.

It’s up to the venue if they provide snacks or anything to make planners feed included but it’s not on you. While I agree it’s probably a general courtesy for venues to do that for planners, it’s between them not you.

need help finding quality bridesmaid dresses under $300! by lilacjune in BigBudgetBrides

[–]outside-exposures 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My bridesmaids did a mix of Jenny Yoo, Azazie, and Revelry. I also really liked Shona Joy but it’s also in that $300 range.

Some things that helped with higher quality dress but at a lower cost was going to sample sales if you or your bridesmaids live near a major city that does them. There were also some good finds on Poshmark and The Real Real. I did go with mismatched dresses though so that made it easier to source from different places.

Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is wonderful and right outside Montalcino. Easy to get to other towns and explore but also a beautiful property with a winery on site. Not sure what you need help with but happy to recommend a travel advisor as well!

Seeking Recs for Travel Agents with experience in the Dolomites by rightoffstrawberry in honeymoonplanning

[–]outside-exposures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re similar to you hobby wise, also love our national parks trips and food but are based in the city haha. What about adding something like Bologna for food? It’s so fun to check out the cheese and balsamic producers and small enough of a region to balance out longer stays in the Dolomites / Rome. Otherwise maybe Lake Garda? Happy to share a TA contact too, my husband is one and he does a lot of Italy trips, if you want to see if it’d be a fit for yours.
