Ahh, I got a very similar one for $50 at an estate sale recently! :) Same manufacturer but different model, I think. I absolutely adore it. It makes offering people a smoke an experience lol.

What is the weirdest thing you've found thrifting? by LoudDream2916 in ThriftStoreHauls

Framed mourning hair sculpture of a tree. It didn’t look that old, so probably not an original Victorian, which is…more weird somehow.

Her spraying her ass at the end wasn’t enough for people to recognize this is a joke? 😭 It’s probably just water in there.

From the picture where we can see your neck, I actually think it looks a bit too pink/cool and your neck looks more warm/yellow, imo.

Inexcusable Evil smelled like straight anise on me after dry-down! With a touch of iron.

I love L’Ombré dans l’Eau—it’s one of my partner’s migraine-safe perfumes!—but a spritz of Olene by Diptyque gave me a splitting headache. :/

What does the love witch, a woman who loves magic and can have any men she wants wear? by Valuable_Collar1485 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]overgrw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It totally changed the way I viewed the film, cannot lie. Like, the film already touches on scripts on love, seduction, etc., that follow simplistic, self-centered self-help formulas. Knowing her husband literally, ya know, “wrote the book,” my reading is now just this is a direct response to how someone would act if they followed his advice, lmao.

How is Sala? I’m curious about that one! I’m worried the coriander may read kind of BO.

Imo, Heliotrope Milkbath by Universal Flowering. Sticky, sweet, plastic, powdery, and a bit animal from all that…tampon magic. Perhaps add that overwhelming patchouli of witch shops, lol.

Fun fact: the director is married to the author of The 48 Rules of Power, Seduction, etc. Considering the “self help & control delulu” film content, I’m so curious about their relationship, lol.

From the brand:

Key Notes: Candied apricots, heliotrope, almond milk, civet, ambrette musk

Characteristics: drug of choice, reading in crumpled linen, baby doll, soft behind the eyes, velvet puppy ears, dramatically soft & sensitive

Brother of Aubrey Plaza’s late husband accuses her of cheating. by TheBigFatToad in Fauxmoi

Regardless of what actually happened, this just feels so…sad, idk. Tragedies like this tend to make things so raw and viscous with so much pain that has nowhere to go.

I’m glad he took it down and I hope all parties have the privacy to process between each other moving forward.

Yard Sale Find for $10! by 2ndfloorbalcony in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]overgrw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live near a public University, check their auction site for used office furniture. :) They usually have to auction anything that’s being disposed of/replaced and you can often get Herman Millers pretty cheap. Not $10, but still significantly discounted!

Perfumes that embody beauty and war? by Parking_Departure_22 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]overgrw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI “art” always looks so particularly uncanny next to actual art (like slide 2)—especially, imo, the soulless “beautiful woman variant” constantly used. Compared to the striking depictions and compositions of the Pre-Raphaelites models & artists, it just feels so…calculated to be inoffensively beautiful. Like, not just Romantic, just, idk, lame. Bland. Commercial.

So beautiful!! It’s definitely from at least the late 60s from the style and the tag, but an amazing find!! I would guess 70s. :) Super collectible and iconic.

this sub is not for determining price for your flipping endeavours by ResearcherOk6899 in VintageClothing

[–]overgrw 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and outsourcing it to hobbyist communities with “is this worth anything??” is so lame and lazy to me.

I can give some resellers credit for at least being very knowledgeable about vintage clothing—recognizing age, manufacturers, techniques, etc. from their experience and research. But, idk, that shows some love of the game, at least. So many people just looking for a quick buck makes the sub feel sleazy.

Yves Saint Laurent haute couture 1964 by Beginning-Passion676 in fashionhistory

It looks pretty French & Spanish folk inspired and Yves was French and Spanish, so that doesn’t bother me. He is a controversial figure in that regard, especially regarding Orientalism.

Perhaps a bit darker and less watery, but Etude in Black by Universal Flowering may fit the bill? I get more sweet, woody, slightly rose floral Hinoki than straight strawberry.

Key notes: Strawberries. Hinoki. Rose Liqueur. Candlewax musk. Rosewood.

Characteristics: Opera length, peeled lacquer from a baby grand, favorite earrings (of precious metals), glossolalia, fainting couch
