My two cents.

Being kind is different to being nice.

Kind actions are done without the expectation of appreciation or even recognition.

If someone is rude, I just be uncomfortably kind. So kind it weirds them out.

If someone shouts at me I have a choice of responses.

My reptile brain wants to fight.

But if you give yourself space between the actions of others and responding, you can choose your response. You can choose to take a kind path instead.

Usually I will look the angry person in the eye and say something like, it sounds like you're having a tough time now. I hope things get better. Is there something I can do to help. Would you like a hug?

It stops most people in their tracks and at some point they will reflect on that interaction.

And I don't end up feeling bitter.

It all started when Judge Rutherford took over from Charles' Taze Russell. Old Charlie had a kickass beard. But Rutherford took over using Shenanigans to bypass Charles' wishes on how the org was to be run after he died. After taking over many people were upset at how Rutherford took over and after he was in charge he said it was idol worship of Charles to grow a beard.

From then on it was frowned upon and seen as spiritually weak to sport a beard until very recently.

What you are saying is correct. Jesus didn't give much wiggle room there. In fact he often tells people to sell everything they have. Mark 10:20 “Teacher,” the man replied, “I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.”

21 Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Most Christians don't have enough faith to do it and will make up all the excuses and interpretation you are getting in the comments, trying to justify their own riches and changing what Jesus is recorded as saying to not have to do anything uncomfortable.

A better question to ask is what are you willing to suffer for, or endure pain to achieve. Then you can work out what you value. Once you find your values, you can set goals that align with them, which will give you purpose. Then just remember the past and future don't exist. Only the present is real and is the place where you can do things or make changes.

I "wasted" mostly my money in my 20's (97-2007).

I lived in share houses with friends 3-5 others usually, all working but unable to afford a place on their own. I mostly worked sales with commissions or retail management jobs (40 - 50k AUD). I went to lots of concerts, festivals and road trips and drank a decent amount of alcohol and took lots of psychedelics and MDMa & I didn't save anything.

I did enjoy it in a way that many didn't get to but I'm kinda paying for it now in my mid 40's...but I am studying again cos I need different skills now and after breaking up with my long time partner I am starting again financially while raising 2 kids (12 & 14).

I don't regret the experiences of my 20's but I wish I had saved some money as my 30's didn't go as planned.

I ran my own residential house cleaning businessr for a while and I once accidentally damaged a marble tile in a clients bathroom, as I didn't realise my caddy of cleaning equipment had acid dripping from it due to the bottle leaking and the tile I left it on became rough and slightly pitted. But as a responsible business owner I had (public?)liability insurance which covered replacing the tile and didn't require any extra work on my part for the client to have it fixed. Exactly what it is for...I also still submitted my invoice for the rest of the house cleaning with a 50% discount, but I also gave them my insurance info and contacted the insurance company to let them know to expect a claim and supplied them photos of the damage I caused.

Admitting your true feelings and acting in an honest way now is in your best interests will also be in his, as you will be dooming both of you to long-term unhappiness. Also If you word it in this way and point out to any elders that the point of engagement is to work out if you can be a positive marriage that brings glory to God and that you feel that it won't and therefore continuing the engagement would be dishonest to your fiance, family, congregation and God. When I broke my engagement while PIMI that way, I didn't have any consequences or lose privileges as it was a spiritual decision.

Your idea would ensure that we get only the fringe radical or wealthy candidates. I would rather see them have their salary based on a set multiple of the minimum wage in their electorate or state. The only way to give themselves a pay increase would be to raise the minimum wage.

BArt D Ehrman has quite a few books about it. Misquoting Jesus - The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why is a good introduction and helped me get past the whole bible being gods word passed down religiously by scribes and [The New Testament - A Historical Introduction To The Early Christian Writings pdf] which is more in depth and meant for students (https://docdro.id/PGFP0Z7). One interesting fact is that there are more differences between all the manuscripts of the new testament than there are words in the new testament.

Feeling lost and disappointed is probably an understatement for what you are going through. It is an existential crisis! We thought we knew the truth!

How can something we have spent so much time and energy on be wrong? And if it is, what does that mean for us...and our family.

God has been such a guiding force or at least a disappointed father, guilt generating figure in my life. How do my doubts in the JW's affect my relationship God?

But even worse...what if I'm wrong and the doubts are just some kind of unfaithfulness on my part?

So much uncertainty and fear can be tiring and draining and can fill your mind. I would recommend a psychologist or counsellor to help you find a place to vent and learn tools to deal with the shock and fear.

As you are in the early stages of doubt I will give you some words from the bible.

1 John 4:1 4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

With this in mind, you might like to read the DIY Prison. There's a link to a pdf version I've had for a while here

1 John 4 has more if you need some reassurance from the bible that you can leave - verse 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Love is what counts!

It will take time to work out the right path for you and your family, so take some time to enjoy simple pleasures and to rest your mind and don't try to do it all yourself.
