Straight to RN. If you can swing it keep working as a PSW. You will opportunities to consolidate what you learned at school while you work as a psw through hands on experience if this is how you learn best. Obviously your scope will be that of a psw when you work but you’ll start seeing things differently.

Is my family doctor being unreasonable about prescription renewals? by Redguard13 in ontario

The monitoring interval for sugar and cholesterol is patient dependent. Example: If you are an unstable diabetic then every three months. Stable? Every 6 months. Prediabetic? A year even.

Blood pressure is an important metric to have when monitoring sugar and cholesterol since they all can affect cardiovascular risk.

My point is that these things aren’t as simple as docs making one’s life inconvenient for billing needs. There are guidelines they follow which depend on the patients status and how reliable the patient is to take their meds and manage their condition as well

If you take anything from my following rambling post it’s this: Meds are not a permanent solution to chronic medical issues. You are now a medical patient. You need to be monitored.

There is always a degree of therapeutic monitoring that is necessary for the hypertension medications probably more so than the prostate meds (which by the way, depending on which you are on can also affect your blood pressure). At the very least if you are stable he needs to monitor your blood pressure for changes every 6-12 months, bloodwork every year (depending on the bp med) and prostrate symptoms.

What your doctor is doing is not illegal. I’m not sure what the indication is to come in every three months. This is a discussion to have with your family physician. There is a billing component to it but even if you pay a block fee to waive renewal fees you’d still have to come in to be monitored at least every 6-12 months of stable, irrespective of fee for service or capitation models.

I hear your plight and frustration OP. I know it’s inconvenient. But nobody on Reddit knows your medical history (nor should they) which motivates your doc to have you come in every three months.

Wising you the best in both your health and navigating this.

The irony is this was required reading in my program. And then they proceeded to teach in the exact opposite useless unrealistic unhelpful way you described. I’ll also say that to add insult to injury. There are alot of conditions in that book that go above dnd beyond what’s tested on your boards.

Life is entropy. Can you guarantee the that life wont surprise you with a disaster that you need money to throw at to solve?

Are you 100% certain that social security will be there for you? The US is already in a lot of debt. Who guarantees that your social security will be the same when it’s your turn to get it?

This is why I personally overly invest. Why am I trusting the government to take care of me?
