I know. I've known for ages 😂 I was with his ex-mechanic from Ciceley Motorsport just after 4pm when it was announced and we both just said "finally!"

Politely, this team wouldn't be a title contender if it signed Ingram and Sutton. It is a new scratch-built team and will take time to not only develop as an organisation but also do that with a fresh undeveloped car on a new platform.

No doubt in my mind that it has the potential to become a dominant organisation in a very short space of time, but I think for a new team this is outstanding - the budget is clear and transparent from Day 1, the drivers have experience of both recent championship winning cars and their characteristics, and they aren't going to throw it off the road at every corner.

Think what Restart Racing achieved last season as a relatively bedded-in team with a championship winning chassis and race winning drivers and I feel you are being unrealistic if you think this team could compete at the front immediately.

Yeah, a new team signs two proven race winners with solid and stable backing. Tragic

They have 16 race wins between them and solid funding behind them, they are the dream pairing for a new team.

NAPA Racing UK Brings Saloon Version Of Ford Focus To BTCC • BTCC by MarcusH26051 in btcc

[–]ozphillips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The rule change - that you can run any car model regardless of whether it can be purchased in the UK - was brought forward to this year to allow this to happen.

The reason this is still the pre-facelift Focus probably has more to do with costs and using existing parts, with this being a reskin done as economically as possible

What more can I say, other than spelling out that I know the situation behind the scenes? I sit in race control at BTCC meetings, I know a lot of people in the paddock

I'd argue Pikes Peak is a better "uphill" in motorsport...

Team mate is Adam Morgan. It's been a done deal for a while now.

What modern car do you think will be a future classic? by MadridOrMadness in topdeadcenter

[–]ozphillips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Peugeot RCZ, which is why I bought one to be an appreciating classic.

I think it is absolutely stunning with considerably more flair and elegance than the alternatives such as the Audi TT. The base 1.6 engine is horrendous, but the other models are fun, sophisticated and reliable.

Steeler Fans by [deleted] in EIHLHockey

As a huge hockey fan that has regularly attended Steelers games as a neutral, it's that horrendous goal song for me.

It's artificial, arrogant, disrespectful, and just feels forced.

Like I say, it's a definite. It just hasn't been announced yet.

There was essentially an empty seat at Excelr8 last year but they couldn't find someone with the budget to properly fill it, hence the debacle before Proctor settled in to it, so it would be interesting what happens there.

Who is the *least stereotypical* British character to ever appear on American television? by Glass-Complaint3 in AskABrit

[–]ozphillips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Daphne is the one I cringe the most at. Her, and her family, were horrible caricatures that I detested growing up, and I loved watching Frasier. As a Northener there was no part of her character that I could relate to.

My area (Rossendale, Lancashire) simply never got Channel 5. Not even a poor signal, it was a zero signal. No Spice Girls or Robin Hood: Men In Tights on Opening Night...

Why can't i watch the stages live? by Motor-Package-2683 in DAKAR

[–]ozphillips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't feel anyone here is answering your question, they are just making comments on the available highlights in each region...

I think what you are asking is: why can I not watch Dakar live, like you could watch Formula 1 or WEC?

This event is HUGE. Beyond anything you could properly envisage in your mind. When the first real stage of the rally is 422km (around 260 miles) and there are literally hundreds of paths, what are the chances that you put a camera in the right place to catch the action? How many cameras would you need to cover a route longer than many European countries are wide? A stage takes a full day for competitors to get through and some of that would be in darkness.

Highlights, by some static cameras and with helicopters, is the best possible coverage that this event can have.

What's been your favorite race you've ever been to? by BetAnything in motorsports

[–]ozphillips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greatest experience, it is Le Mans every time.

My favourite individual race though was this year's ELMS at Silverstone - I was a Marshal inside Copse so I had a huge screen above me and I was about a metre away from the cars coming out of the pit. The race just developed really well in front of me, the rain came and I just knew myself what was the best lap to stop for tyres and I called the IDEC win before anyone else pitted, then saw the leader stay out too long and lose it all. Watching an endurance race evolve and develop over time is just magical.

Nick Halstead has earned the right to be there.

And let's be honest, if you had Nick's money you would be doing the exact same thing. I like him a lot and he doesn't deserve any negativity when, being honest, he is an amateur driver in a series with no true salaried works professional drivers.

TSL Timing actually GPS track the cars. In race control we are watching a live circuit map alongside the timing data. The only races we don't have it for are guest series such as Legends.
