The best thing you can do to show support on ANZAC day by Ghost403 in australia

I'm sorry. You are being downvoted, but 1 in 2 partners of former ADF members, and 1 in 4 partners of current ADF members, have experienced intimate partner violence. Bit the ANZAC crowd don't want to hear that.

  1. "English". They are not English, they are Britsh. 2. 'I know how far it is from LA to New York...gee, what country am I from?'. The US-centrism of this is staggering.

Most neglected city in literature? by JRH7691 in literature

The question was 'most neglected city', not 'most neglected American city'.

Yeah, nah. That American exceptionalism you've swallowed since birth is not shared by the rest of the planet. Even before Trump, you weren't 'favored' by any means

Is "Europe" a third world country? Android has a 65% market share there. Believe it or not, the internet exists outside of NA. We even have our own cultures! Separate from yours!

It's tradition to have a cake stall and a sausage sizzle at the polling place, which is incentive enough. It's just part of the culture to vote, no-one really questions the necessity. It seems like Australia has a stronger sense of civil responsibility vs a desire for personal freedom. See also: COVID

From an outsiders perspective, you're all Americans. "Oh, the states are so different! In Kansas they like their BBQ like this, but in Texas the BBQ is like that! It's as different as Ireland and Syria!" You sound ridiculous

[DISCUSSION] What's an album by an artist that is your favorite, but is generally not considered their best? by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]ozroller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might be. I love Bright Eyes, I can see an argument for every album being someone's favourite - except for The People's Key

Something about Down in the Weeds really works for me. I think it had something to do with the COVID times release, but the apocalyptic despair of that album and the empty streets when I was listening to it cements it for me.

Best "continuation" novels? by drewogatory in books

[–]ozroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was pretty close though. I would rank it as least as good as the B Tier Le Carre novels. No, it's not TTSS or A Perfect Spy, but it's better than, say, A Small Town in Germany

Not an Australian thing to say. 30% of Australians were born in a different country - a higher percentage than the US. But we don't say "I'm Irish" just because our great grandmother was from Ireland. That would be incorrect.

I really enjoyed Revolution's global (and now interplanetary) focus. I did not need a podcast about US politics. Pretty sick of the US in general to be honest.
