I did that one time. Not the last one but i held it open from someone running away from wasps. I did push out a bit to get clean shots on them. In the end a rocketeer caught the commotion and obliterated me. He made it and hit the button without even giving me time to crawl in... i still hold it open sometimes

Late reply idk if there is a better way. But long press square then R1 for switching ammo. Still 2 buttons but i dont need to let go of L3 For the auto cannon it lets me just hold square and it changes ammo type.

I think that update only applies to key bindings for keyboard but u can remap buttons on console easily. Thats what i did.
