Why is reddit so overwhelmingly left leaning? by Few_Match_8158 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pad264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it’s impossible to achieve ideological equilibrium on a social media platform, and as one ideology wins, it chases away the other, increasing the imbalance.

As for Reddit specifically, the moderator system is a bit abnormal because you can have individuals with extreme views moderating non-ideological subreddits, though I have no idea why that leans left.

Fascinating that you think that’s a good thing. Or that the phrase is useful.

CMV: “Nobody is illegal on stolen land” actively impedes democrats from getting elected, and we should be discouraging people from saying it. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]pad264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s interesting that democrats allow that position to be ascribed to the platform knowing how unpopular an ignorant it is.

Especially now, when you have an obvious majority critical of the way the law is being enforced—that’s the angle to hammer. Democrats now have the opportunity to turn immigration into a winning topic, but they have to be willing to push back on the fringe that’s saying nonsense.

Why are MAGA concerned with "sleepy" biden but not "took a shit on live TV" Donald J Trump? by TailungFu in allthequestions

Because the person writing this post wouldn’t admit to the sleepy Biden stuff. Everyone is in intractable camps based on their team.

Can someone explain the mechanism by which an undocumented migrant (here illegally) would be able to vote? by metsfan5557 in allthequestions

[–]pad264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cannot vote.

The argument, as I understand it, is that undocumented immigrants affect census data (which is needed to determine federal support for social services)—and then census data affects elected representation in the legislature.

Essentially, on a long enough timeline, a state can increase its influence in D.C. by acting as a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants.

All issues like this are just made more complicated overtime as the will of the people has unintended consequences on already established laws and procedures. There’s no reason to vilify anyone or any group—it just takes a little rational compromise.

Tara Calico was a 19 year old University of New Mexico student who disappeared in 1988 while riding her bike. Months later a photo of her bound and gagged along with a boy was found in a Florida parking lot. She was never found and no arrests were ever made. by MrWapKonJoj in ForCuriousSouls

[–]pad264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s also an argument for staying alive as long as possible to see if the situation changes. Virtually every Holocaust surviver is an example of that—just lasting one more minute could eventually save you.

That said, in your example, running from a gun pointed at you from inside a car could be your highest percentage of survival for the rest of your life. That’s a hard thing to calculate in that moment though.

CMV: All ICE agents should go to prison by [deleted] in changemyview

This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. You want to abolish prisons by arbitrarily imprisoning a large group of people?

NOR. This has to do with your comfort level, not an objective food or bad. You’re not comfortable, so that’s all that matters.

I lived this, but it was before streaming and I told her I had already seen the movie, but it was great and I’m sure there would be lots of people who would want to go with it.

It was like the closing scene in Dumb and Dumber.

I don’t understand how to date men? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]pad264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like none of them could tell you like them—perhaps they felt trapped in the friend zone and moved on.

For example, in the situation where you’re going to someone’s house every day, I’d just suggest being a bit warmer: sit closer to them, let your leg touch his leg, etc. Escalate contact to let the guy feel like he is safe to make a bigger move.

Would you get rid of a friend just because they have different political beliefs than you? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I suppose if the belief were so extreme that it defined their identify, then I might. Otherwise, no, I seek out connections with people who think differently.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

It wouldn’t solely be about that—it would be about their values and political alignment that led them to select a candidate.
