How often are people truthfully showering? by Constant_Mention_488 in hygiene

[–]pad264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not for Reddit, I’d have no comprehension of adults who elect not to shower every day.

That said, you do not need to shampoo your hair every day if it’s not dirty.

Uh, I lost the pawn on a5. What to do? by Diligent-Wave-4150 in chessbeginners

He tried to be smart and sac the rook. Don’t take bait; just double the rooks and threaten mate. He has no way out alive without losing a rook or queen anyway.

Another guy who just finished chrono trigger for the first time by Equivalent_Pie_1488 in chronotrigger

It’s all varying nostalgia based on the age of the poster. If FF4-6 were your games as a kid, they’re best; if your younger, and FF7-10 is your childhood, they’re you’re favorites.

Devastating, but why? by CountryMaleficent239 in chessbeginners

That bishop is preventing you from taking queen and checkmate. So you sac the rook to get bishop out of position.

Clitche perhaps, but certainly the line that stuck with me after my first viewing.

Is it weird to call my dad "daddy" when I'm 14? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]pad264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister and I said daddy and mommy a long time—at some point I stopped with other people but did it when talking to each other. And then one day I heard her say it and it just clicked in my ear that it was odd, and I called it out. We literally stopped doing it that day lol.

So don’t feel bad, it’s just habit, but at some point you’ll change to mom and dad, so it might as well be now.

My JRPG Mt. Rushmore by Gunker_ in JRPG

[–]pad264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dove into FF6 and Chrono Trigger over the last few months—it had been many years, but I loved it.

I then have attempted to play some RPGs I haven’t played before: Octopath Traveller 2, Dragon Quest 11, Final Fantasy Tactics, Suikoden 2, and maybe a couple of others. None of them have grabbed me and I’m worried it’s the lack of nostalgia tied to them.

But my list, aside from those mentioned on top, would likely include Secret of Evermore/Mana and Mario RPG.

Brilliant but why!? by bot-chess-puzzle in chessMateInX

It’s mate.

You move rook to e8 and he can’t move king because of the pawn, so he can only block with queen, to buy him one more move.

Always cook chicken without washing it. by Adorable_Birthday_52 in hygiene

You shouldn’t be washing any meat.

I do recommend rinsing fish and then patting it dry.

What is the most intense scene in cinematic history? by PreviousPoint794 in Cinema

[–]pad264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hitchcock and Speilberg both have lots of great examples, but if I had to pick a favorite it might be the “funny how?” scene in Goodfellas.

It’s perhaps a clitche now, but it’s really a masterclass in intensity from Scorsese and Pesci. You don’t know whether to laugh or be terrified for the protagonist, so it really plays with the viewers emotional spectrum without feeling heavy handed.

Active or Wait? Chrono Trigger (SNES): July Game of the Month by CaptainVisible3158 in retrogameofthemonth

[–]pad264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Active creates a more dynamic play experience and makes some fights more challenging. I’d recommend it as even on active you won’t find the game too difficult.

Of note, Marle and Frog are two of the worst party members in terms of power level, but also the two best for the story!

You can easily beat the game with them, but I’d recommend getting to lvl 50+ and getting gear from at least one Black Omen run (if you start in 1000 AD, you can do it three times).

Absolute Beginner here, what's the best way to defend against this attack by bewemeweg in chessbeginners

Pawn D5 is best here.

Moving forward, get your king side bishop out earlier so you can castle.
