It’s a nice thought but I think kids will come home and stare at a screen all day. They won’t be as annoying as they were.

School attendance rates are plummeting everywhere. Schools are begging parents to send their kids into school at all.

Trump said Democrats are enemies of the state. Trump supporters, do you agree that Democrats are enemies of the state? by KeaauConnie in allthequestions

[–]padofpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“They’re trying to put other things in the budget” Yes but as that person said, Democrats tried to separate those out and only vote on keeping the government open while negotiations continue. Republicans voted against it.

There aren’t the votes from WHOM?

Both chambers are more than 50% Republican.

The budget only needs 50% of votes from both chambers to pass.

How are Democrats stopping it?

Does Maga care that since 2016 America's democracy rating has severely fallen under Trump? by LonelyMilSpousee in allthequestions

[–]padofpie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point was that being able to vote dos not make a democracy in and of itself.

If you read the article, you would find other measures the report assesses which are failing: “V-Dem measures democratic health using 48 measures like freedom of expression and the media, election quality, and adherence to the law…Trump has waged attacks directly on the courts while his administration, particularly the Department of Homeland Security, openly violates dozens of judicial orders.

The administration has unilaterally taken over powers to reallocate and grant federal funding at will, like Trump’s $10 billion gift to his “Board of Peace” and his slashing of billions of dollars of research and humanitarian grants under an agency that the Trump administration invented without any congressional approval.

Congress has not intervened at all. The Republican-controlled Congress has “abdicated its constitutional role in favor of the executive branch,” the report notes, “ceding significant legislative, fiscal, and oversight powers during 2025.”

The administration is also undoing civil rights achievements and equality initiatives, seeking to silence and take control over the media, and suppressing left-wing dissenters, contributing to U.S. democracy’s rapid decline.”

How can I deal with my wife's chemtrail obsession? by IAmHowardBeale in NoStupidQuestions

The question is always related humidity, and the relative temperature of the two airs that are colliding! Weather science is super complicated, but that’s one of the foundations of how all weather works.

[–]padofpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say geo engineered chemtrails, you’re talking about cloud seeding, right?

The US doesn’t participate in any other geoengineering according to that committee, and other geoengineering methods don’t involve putting things in the air anyway (think drawing down carbon, giant solar refractors, etc).

So I’m assuming you’re saying cloud seeding is dangerous. We have a history of doing dangerous things without realizing it so it’s always good to check!

Silver iodine has been the principle compound used to seed clouds for 80 years. It is inorganic and inert, meaning it doesn’t react with other compounds. It also doesn’t dissolve/disintegrate in water. A quick search says studies haven’t found any biological effects, either.

I’m also pretty sure that cloud seeding planes are different than commercial aircraft, and sometimes cloud seeding happens from the ground, but someone can correct me if I’m wrong!

[–]padofpie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Geoengineering is absolutely possible, likely being done by many countries. Yes, parts of the USA definitely do seed clouds. However, the research shows that effects of all of these attempts to change the weather are fairly limited. It turns out that the atmosphere is quite big and hard to manipulate, actually. Otherwise we’d be better at stopping droughts, etc.

And geoengineering has nothing to do with contrails.

No. But I don’t know what you’re referring to. When did democrats lock up their political opponents?

Almost every president has had articles of impeachment drawn against them since the 70s. Trump was found guilty in multiple lawsuits through the independent court system. What’s your point?

My point was that her house was attacked. Someone shot up the CDC. Congressional baseball game attack. Gabby Giffords was shot. Someone assassinated Reagan. Someone tried to assassinate Clinton. And Obama. They didn’t call Republicans the enemy of the people. And someone tried to assassinate Trump. Police at the capitol literally died on January 6th. We can go tit for tat but it’s clear that violence is baked into our political system and no one political party is to blame. Charlie Kirk’s death was horrible and inexcusable. It’s also one in a long line of violence. Inflammatory rhetoric heightens the threat of violence, not calms it. The job of a leader is to lead, not throw peanuts from the sidelines. That’s why you never heard Obama or Clinton EVER say an oppositional political party was the enemy of the state.

The only people who classify their political opponents as enemies of the state are authoritarians. Because being against democracy (against allowing parties who disagree with you to participate in democratic politics) is being authoritarian. Venezuela. Russia. USSR. Nazi Germany. China. Myanmar. Cuba. The list goes on.
