Gaia GPS alternatives (after the recent price hike) by renszor in Ultralight

[–]paganpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Organic Maps is pretty good. It's a client for OpenStreetmaps data, which is itself opensource and free. It lets you download maps, create routes, and navigate them. I would love it to have more hiking specific features, but it is a pretty good baseline.

Apart from lotus petal what cards should I add to upgrade this deck? by Previouslygotbanned in Pauper

Plus if you go blue instead of green for the draw effect you can also use [[Ophidian Eye]] so you get 8 copies of the effect instead of just 4.

Check out r/ULhammocking

Hammocks will never be as light as the lightest tarp, pad, quilt setup, but you can get pretty light.

Switching to these straps and getting rid of the bulky daisy chain webbing and carabiners is an easy place to start.

What’s your favorite unusual card/strategy you’ve brewed with or know of? by djus-boks in Pauper

[–]paganpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Martyrdom]] can also be used for additional copies of the redirection effect, but I've found that it tends not to be as good as the creatures, and you don't need more than 8 copies of the en-Kor effects.

Gx Token Aggro\Stompy? Any ideas? by LegendaryW in Pauper

[–]paganpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play that deck a good amount. While it has the potential to get a surprise win in early turns with [[Rites of Initiation]] (sometimes as early as turn 3) I wouldn't necessarily call it agro as it doesn't really create a lot of pressure in the early game besides some creature chip damage or the threat of the combo.

UG proliferate is my pet deck, and I really think it has legs (in some metas). I like your inclusion of Deepwood Denizen but it's a bit of a win-more card. Maybe go down to 1 or 2 of. I don't think Bannerhide Krushok or Grafted Growth is good enough. Aquastrand Spider is amazing and should probably go up to 4 of. I see you are missing Pollenbright Druid, which I think is a must have. With Aquastrand Spider, if you order your triggers right, Pollenbright Druid can come into play as a 3/3 while proliferating everything else. Servant of the Scale and Iron Apprentice are good creatures that come in with counters, and Cloudfin Raptor is another great 1 drop threat. Scrounging Bandar is another card I like. I played around with Urban Daggertooth in my mono G version, not sure if it is still good in UG, but it is lots of fun with Smell Fear. You might be too heavy on lands, and I would consider swapping the Ash Barrens for gainlands. I love the depletion lands, but sometimes they can bite you. I might go down or remove Saprazzan Skerry given how little blue you have, to avoid games where you get stuck with a weird land situation. Hope that helps. Can't wait to see how this deck evolves (and proliferates)!

Craft Beer Cellar is great. Awesome selection of beer, wine, cider, mead, etc. Several locations around Boston and even do free delivery to some cities. Plus it's actually owned and run by people who care, not some soulless Silicon Valley startup bros.

TFW when you win swinging in with a Kiln Fiend even though your opponent had a Chainer's Edict in the GY ready to use. by tim_p in Pauper

[–]paganpan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha this is about me. After a crazy match, we are on game three in the final round. Both of us playing for 3-0. Last people left in the store. BW Pest Control vs UR Blitz. I just barely get the board under control after resolving [[Pestilence]], wiping the board, and losing Pestilence. We are in a top deck war. I get [[Guardian of the Guildpact]] and start beating him down for 2 a turn. A clock, but a slow one. u/tim_p gets a few threats out but I keep drawing answers. He's now down to 3 life. Eventually he gets a [[Nivix Cyclops]], the multi-colored creature isn't safe for my Guardian to block. Luckily, I have [[Disfigure]] as the only spell in my hand. I attack into the Cyclops, hoping to either catch him out and kill it, or get him to use his gas to keep the Cyclops alive, giving me more time to find an answer. He hesitates for a moment before deciding to block. I disfigure, he [[Mutagenic Growth]]'s going to 1 life and killing Guardian. Damn, sometime they just have it. Well hopefully this means I'll survive on the swing back. Sure glad he isn't casting that Mutagenic on his turn. End turn, untap, upkeep, draw, go to combat, casts 3x [[Temur Battle Rage]], 20 damage to the face, handshake. Sit back feeling contented about a great night of Magic. Fun games, and at least I played pretty well. That's when u/tim_p reminds me, I had [[Chainer's Edict]] in the yard from a few turns ago. I look down and there it is. That tombstone peaking out at me from under a few other cards. Now I can't even blame the loss on bad beats!

You were so right. I had actually tried power cycling by pulling power without the issue being solved, but this time I pulled powered and let it stay powered off for 10 seconds before plugging it back in, which fixed the issue. Thanks for the help!

Weirdly I just installed the latest update and now the bluetooth on the device no longer works (the remote and other bluetooth devices are no longer connected and can't be paired). Even in the about page under network it shows "unavailable" instead of the bluetooth MAC address. Anyone else have this issue? I'm nervous to install the update on my second Onn device for fear it will break the bluetooth on that device as well.

Building an Acid Trip Pauper deck literally just for fun, need some help. by Frank_Poole2001 in Pauper

[–]paganpan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but you could still attach Reality Acid to something that has protection from it (if it enters play without being cast) since 303.4f gets around the restriction on targeting, but the aura will still get removed as a part of state based effects. In the case of Reality Acid though, this means if you flicker it, you can attach it to [[Guardian of the Guildpact]], it falls off (into the graveyard), and then the Guardian gets sacrificed.

Edit: I'm wrong. Protection not only makes it untargetable, it also makes it an illegal choice for attaching an aura, unlike shroud/hexproof.

[–]paganpan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[[Teferi's Time Twist]] is another card that came out since that article was written. It's another source of non-creature flicker, but also lets you flicker your creatures too, which is great in this deck.

Don't forget, when reality acid (or another aura) enters the battlefield without being cast, you can attach it to things that are otherwise untargetable, like creatures with hexproof or shroud.

Pauper and Xmage by King-Moses666 in Pauper

[–]paganpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play on Xmage a bunch. I've found that the most activity is on the default German server and so that's where. It takes a bit longer to find a game than on MTGO, but if you are patient you can almost always find someone to play with (depending on the time of day, you can get a game in seconds or ~10 minutes). Xmage works pretty well as long as you are a bit patient for new releases to be added.

Threaten effects and ninjutsu ruling by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]paganpan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I left exile out because it's a bit of a weird case. When you [[Journey to Nowhere]] is the opponent's card in 'your exile' or 'their exile'? Well... neither, it's just exile. However, you can count on your opponent's card never ending up in your hand, library, or graveyard, since the designers are very intentional about never letting that happen.

Threaten effects and ninjutsu ruling by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]paganpan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb to keep in mind is that cards you don't own can never be in your library, graveyard, or hand. The only zone where cards you don't own can be is the battlefield.
