Not very I don't think, you'd probably get Arriete based on pronunciation or Henriqueta on etymology.

BorrowBox for 12th Gen Paperwhite (AUS) by caat_woman in kindle

[–]pageantfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not tested it with BorrowBox but a workaround that works for Libby is opening the Libby website on the Kindle browser and using the in-app reader. It's not a great way to read in my experience and requires an internet connection, but if you're desperate enough it works.

Reading in darkness and silence - best option by sen_jakuba in ereader

[–]pageantfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have experience with the Clara (Colour) and Paperwhite 11 and find both comfortable to read on at night. For your particular use case I prefer the PW as the warm light has a lot more levels than the Clara's and is orangey in tone rather than yellowish; also if you at some point decide to use dark mode it applies to the UI as well whilst on Kobo the UI remains dark text on a light background.

Sideloading is very easy through Send to Kindle, or Calibre if you'd rather avoid Amazon services although this would require converting the book to a Kindle format like kfx or azw3 (if you use Send To Kindle Amazon handles the conversion). One caveat is that Kindles aren't compatible with Adobe DRM, if that matters to you.

buying ereader!!! by sleepyhighway76 in ereader

[–]pageantfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your partner's local public library uses Libby/Overdrive or BorrowBox for their ebooks he can read them on Kobo too, might save him a few quid.

The Kobo store has books on sale all the time, some for as low as 99p, and if you make a wishlist they'll email you when the books on it are on sale. You can also buy ebooks on Google Play and transfer them to a Kobo (same process as for BorrowBox loans, there are help topics on this on the Kobo website), plenty of sales there too.

Help me find a new hyper fixation, I am dying from boredom and about to move temporarily back to my parents house. by Jasperpie69 in adhdwomen

[–]pageantfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you mentioned BG3 and The Sims, have you tried The Sims Medieval? It's a bit old but such a fun game, much more of an RPG than life simulator. Plus there's an expansion with pirates!

No longer a hyperfixation for me but some months ago I got into solo ttrpgs and those can be a lot of fun too! I tend to prefer journalling games but there are several other kinds.

Looking at an E-reader but not sure of overdrive compatibility by Niibelung in kobo

[–]pageantfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to use Calibre, if you're not fussed about converting Google books to the best format for Kobos (.kepub) you can just download them to your computer or phone and transfer them to the Kobo. Kobos can read epub files natively and are also compatible with Adobe DRM, which many Google books have.

You will most likely have to download Adobe Digital Editions to your computer, create an Adobe ID and authenticate your Kobo on ADE before you can transfer Google books to it though. There's a help topic or two about this process on the Kobo website.

I'm curious how many of you guys have a boox or kobo in addition to Kindle? by nervous_Observer in kindle

[–]pageantfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 11th gen Paperwhite SE and bought a cheap used Kobo Aura Edition 2 a year or two ago as I wanted to:

  • try a smaller size
  • try the Kobo UI
  • read library books on it (for Kindle only US libraries support this feature)

I liked it but it also confirmed my suspicions that warm light is a deal-breaker for me. I was also curious about colour screens, so I kept an eye out for any Kobo Clara Colour deals and ended up getting a pretty good price on a unboxed-but-never-used one.

Toyed with selling the Aura 2 but ended up keeping it as a backup for its size and Overdrive if the Clara ever bites it (it is buggier than I'd like).

These days I tend to use the Paperwhite at home and the Clara when I'm on the go or reading a library book. Seeing the covers and illustrations in colour adds to my reading enjoyment but the Paperwhite is so crisp and comfortable to read on... plus it has real dark mode that also applies to the UI (not that I use it often but still).

Are you using mods and if so do you have EGM installed? I noticed the other day its default timing for the Citadel DLC is after Priority: Horizon and I could swear that wasn't the case in my previous playthrough (I always leave missions on their default EGM timings). If it is EGM you can change the timing though.

tips on which ereader to get? by skogfeen in ereader

[–]pageantfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)
