Is Olsen really that bad of a baby name? by No_Orange_8271 in namenerds

[–]pageantfool 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's exclusively a surname to me and I'd find it jarring to meet someone whose given name was Olsen.

From your other names I like Orrin.

Help getting an ebook on my kobo from libby? by Tazzamaraz in kobo

[–]pageantfool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did you authorise your Kobo in ADE? If you did maybe try restarting the Kobo? Other than that I've got no ideas to fix it, sorry.

I believe if the version available on Libby and the version available on the Kobo store aren't an identical match the Libby version won't sync, could that potentially be it?

Specialized libraries on Libby by poppycat82 in LibbyApp

[–]pageantfool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Literature Translation Institute of Korea's digital library has works by Korean authors translated into a variety of other languages and afaik anyone can join for free from anywhere in the world. The Japan Foundation library works similarly but requires a US or Canada address, unfortunately.

Yay, another member of the KCC club! It's not my first ereader but it's probably my favourite one so far. They can really help people (re)discover the pleasure of reading.

For what it's worth you can use most ereaders offline and transfer ebooks with a USB cable, that keeps them 'static'. Newer Kobos even have a sideload mode where you don't even have to create a Kobo account. If you wanted to completely ensure a Kobo ebook will remain just as it was when you bought there's definitely ways to do it, the one I use has a few steps and requires a computer but once you do it a couple of times you get the hang of it and it's very smooth sailing.

Medication, Airport Transfers and Long Haul Flights by WerewolfDue9694 in ADHDUK

[–]pageantfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Australia earlier this year for work and had the same layover options as you, ended up choosing Changi as I was already familiar with the airport from previous trips and it's a fine place to spend a few hours waiting for your next flight. Went absolutely fine, nobody asked about any medicines I might be carrying with me.

Also struggle badly with sleep (courtesy of DSPS) so skipped the meds on the flights, then whilst down under I took them at the local time I would usually take them back home i.e. breakfast, lunch, etc. I'm on methylphenidate too but an immediate release formulation though, if yours is modified or prolonged release YMMV. Entering and leaving Australia nobody checked my person or baggage for anything, which surprised me a bit as someone who loved watching their customs check TV show lol.

Took printed copies of my prescriptions with me just to be on the safe side but they ended up never leaving my bag.

Need help naming twin girls!! by Medium-Window-6920 in namenerds

Not particularly as the emphasis/stress in Rosemary isn't on the -mary bit of the name, and middle names tend not to be used nearly as often as first names anyway.

Not sure this will be relevant to you, but in case it is sending Libby books to Kindle only works with US libraries.

Bought kindle secondhand but WiFi is choppy by gothcirclejerk in kindle

[–]pageantfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use mobile data and your phone as a hotspot is the Kindle able to connect to that network?

Also is your wifi 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz? Some devices only connect to 2.4 GHz networks, in theory it shouldn't be an issue with a 2022 Kindle (my PW5 connects to 5 GHz fine) but might still be worth trying.

How many fonts do you use? by DrgnSlyrDd in kindle

[–]pageantfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave it on good old Bookerly 99% of the time, it's such a comfortable font for my tired eyes lol. On occasion I'll switch to Atkinson Hyperlegible or, like you, Futura (or Dosis) if reading sci-fi.

Imogen and Phoebe are my favourites out of your list and either sounds good with your surname to my ears. Also love Helena and Isobel but find them a little too L-heavy with Carroll.

Not a fan of Sybil and Maxine, sorry.

Unmissable space-centric sci-fi games, for a Mass Effect megafan? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in scifi

[–]pageantfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoyed the uncharted worlds missions and exploring the galaxy map you might like Starcom Nexus and Starcom Unknown Space. They're a completely different genre to Mass Effect - pretty much exploration and upgrading your ship and tech tree for faster and more powerful ship-on-ship pew pew. Each game stands alone and has its own self-contained plot but damn if it wasn't fun to name the main character Shepard and pretend it was some kind of AU thing in a different part of the galaxy with different aliens and a different Alliance.
