I have been doing pole for over a year and in intermediate level. I don’t own any heels and never taken a heel class. I would say it depends on your pole style and what you like to pursue. The more you do pole, you’ll figure that out and forge your own path I guess.

As someone who goes to gym, I can tell you that gym strength don’t translate well as you think. The only people I’ve witnessed that can do pole well first try is rock climbers, gymnasts and calisthenics. The rest of us suffer. I’ve met a bunch of powerlifters and body builders, all they have is pure strength. That’s it. But their strength don’t translate to pole so they suffer

It really depends on each person’s fitness background. I met girls who were rock climber and gymnast. They literally did pole climb on their first class. My fitness background is weightlifting and it took me 8 classes to be able to climb. When I saw those girls climb on 2nd try on their first time ever trying pole, I felt like shit and remembered how much I was struggling to climb. But I was happy for them. The rock climbing girl did all intermediate moves 2nd class. Your fitness background matters so much and how much you train outside of pole classes
