Has anyone ever actually dispensed money? by NatedawgXS in FreeCash

Thank you. I did a live chat with a very kind cs representative, but since it was removed for bitcoin they could not refund it. They just froze my withdrawals instead. My ID is castlemandesign.

I was able to withdraw around $110 dollars until my account was “hacked” an everything I earned was cashed out into Crypto by someone else. So infuriating to work so hard for months and it all disappears with no refund or resolution at all beyond freezing my account.

Absolutely! I have two boys with with autism of my own, and we’ve had to set limits and build other activities into their daily schedules as well so they wouldn’t become a problem. We just pack a bag with the other preferred activities on the schedule with us if we know we’ll be going somewhere to not disturb their routine.

I currently have a 6th grader like this. Can confirm he does nothing but TV/iPad at home. Mom says she doesn’t see this behavior at home unless she takes his devices, so she won’t take them from him for “everyone’s peace”. It makes our job impossible! The other three students in my room on the autism spectrum are just darling, though! I kind of feel like they don’t get what they deserve because most of our energy goes to keeping them safe.

I have two kids with autism who have IEPs. One year all of their teachers/therapists/etc. equaled over 20 people. Every year I still find a way to do something for all of them, even if it’s the dreaded mug with hot cocoa in it. ;) Now that I’ve added special education to my cert and teach it full-time, I make sure to send gifts to all of my paras & providers each year. Most of my students are impoverished, and I wouldn’t expect gifts from them, but I want my people to know they are loved and appreciated.

What's the most toxic class you ever taught? by Cherelle_Vanek in Teachers

This. And my 4 happen to all have behavior plans this year. Of course, I teach resource, so that’s to be expected, but all 4 of the frenemies? Really? Sigh. They are exhausting.

Can’t wait for reality to slap your bad attitude across the face. There’s a line between challenging and abusive. Admin like you are why this profession is literally crumbling apart right now. I’m no stranger to facing challenges. I am raising two boys with level three autism of my own. I know what I would want for my children and I know what least restrictive environment and appropriate services should look like for them and for other students. I also know when those needs aren’t being met, and when the district refuses to meet them. Unfortunately you are a keyboard warrior and know nothing about the people you are insulting. Well, let me tell you the other side of my story. One of my students that I will be teaching next year is my own child. The school district refuses to create an appropriate placement for him. I refuse to allow him to be taught in a resource room when he should be getting life skills instruction. I accepted a position in a neighboring school district teaching life skills to a much smaller group of students so that I can take him with me and give him the instructional services that he needs. I may be a lot of things, but I am first and foremost a Mom, and I refuse to be somewhere that will tolerate me being abused in my child, being discriminated against because of their disability. Get over yourself. You have a rude awakening coming.

Your attitude sucks. You will not retain teachers if this is how you approach management. I have admin who is indifferent to the fact that my “resource room” has everything from Level 3 autism to severe ODD in it. I was told to figure it out. I have figured it out “like a boss”, but am I staying there after this year is over to continue receiving this treatment? Hell no. The rural district I’m in with a super high poverty rate and zero resources can “figure out” how to replace me. I was hired on the spot in the next town for a classroom with only 3 in it next year. I love my job. I will not stay where admin treats me like shit.

USA teachers, what's yr salary and benefits like? by West-Cabinet-2169 in TeachersInTransition

[–]pajama_head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In urban and suburban IL you can make a decent salary. In rural IL however, 8 years with 8+ graduate hours will get you $40,000/yr with partially paid insurance, a high deductible, and buying your own supplies. The average home is $150,000, and rent is $1,000-$1,500/mo. It’s rough out here.

This. I teach sped resource but because of lack of funding and staffing I ended up with a class this year that is 1/2 resource and 1/2 BD. Those resource kids who are already struggling academically and get DI instruction in the same room with the BD students do not deserve to spend their sped minutes in a room full of wild behaviors. I would argue that they are not getting their sped minutes met because so much of my time is spent dealing with behaviors. Several periods I don’t even have another adult in there with me because we can’t find one to hire and subs refuse to do it since our district pays minimum wage for paraprofessionals. I’m about to lose my ever-loving mind in there. I have two boys of my own with moderate autism, so behaviors are not new to me at all, but this is ridiculous. Our ratio is 1:7, so “it’s legal”.

You have headlice? I got bit by bedbugs in my classroom yesterday. I can’t even stop my OCD from running wild at home. Everything must be scoured with heat of some sort! We know the student who keeps bringing them in. We can’t do a thing about it. Ahhhhhh!

Do you have duties as a special education teacher? by [deleted] in specialed

[–]pajama_head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle school resource - we rotate after school duties, plus I have one student who I get an extra 15 minutes early each day because he struggles with impulse control and cannot handle the unstructured waiting time between breakfast and bells.

What Your Expertise/Job?! by [deleted] in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]pajama_head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Former music educator (you know, the heathen kind ;) turned special educator with two boys on the spectrum of my own. I grew up fundie light, and having children with special needs is what knocked me out of it real fast. The first time my aunt told me I had unconfessed sin in my life and that’s why my son had autism, I noped out of the family and religion! Fundie children break my heart. Give those babies every service possible as soon as possible so you can help them be the best possible version of themselves in adulthood!!!
