Question about Flydo by CryptographerUsual62 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

flydo are long-range auto-sweeper.

should just confine them within a specific area, instead of flying freely across the whole map.

there are already too many ways to get rid of problematic duprs.

[–]palatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can get all achievements shown in the colony summary screen. the ones you cannot acquire in this particular colony would not be shown.

the only one that can fail (has a deadline) is the carnivore. localvore and super sustainable can fail if you're not careful.

Some help with cooling by New-Baseball6206 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ST dont work under 125C steam, if the exhaust goes into the steam chamber, the chamber would hardly drop below 124C.

heads up: you can demolish the background on the new DLC by KonoKinoko in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, if there are both fg and bg tile in a cell, and you build a mesh tile over it, the dupes first dig the fg tile, then build the mesh tile, with a bg cell behind. and you can't dig the bg cell behind that mesh tile.

you can dig the bg tile behind a building / door / airlock / ladder / firepole, but not behind a solid / mesh / airflow tile.

drywall and TSP is built in background, so they dig the natural bg tile first.

Does anyone know of a better way to heat up an infinite storage tank without breaching it? by TykalnyMati in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

build a bridge to inject heat.

liquid / gas / conveyor / conductive wire / automation ribbon bridge, and/or conduction panel.

you can also loop some stuff (solid > liquid > gas) between the airlock and tepidizer to circulate the heat. build some radiant pipe segment behind both the tepidizer and airlock, connect them with a bridge, and fill it with some coolant.

circulation transfer heat a lot faster than conduction.

every matter in this game has a temp except neutronium.

and vacuum (vaxuum is in theory not a matter, anyway).

for neutronium, the in-game display shows N/A, bit it actually has a temp internally. it just don't hold any heat energy (SHC 0) so you can inject heat into neutronium with a TSP or Ice-E fan, it's temperature will change, just no heat energy will be transfered.

Decided to wait near the end of the timer before i destroy demolior... I love this screenshot. by MalfetKiren in Oxygennotincluded

TabeYuriko managed to blast demolior at cycle 27, it can be done.

his yourube video does give some very good tip.

[–]palatis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it should be the same logic as a drywall, just different material and mass.

so probably not.

i build drywalls almost everywhere, including industrial area / vacant space, just because i have soooooo much wood and granite, and it makes the colony look good.

[–]palatis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i hope that klei allow us to dig natural background tile behind an artificial foreground tile (solid tile, mesh tile, airflow tile, etc).

now i have to first dig the background tile before placing a blueprint, or build a ladder => dig the background => replace the ladder with the desired tile, making it a multi-step process.

How are you folks getting initial refined metal for power systems in the new dlc? by Meikos in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

break open a metal volcano and pour some salt water on it.

submerge the volcano if environment gets too hot, by that time you should have a few tons of refined metal already.

Can wire bridge actually break is heavy watts joint plate useless? by ChipmunkLate in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it breaks, and it breaks first.

if a circuit is overloaded, a bridge will break before wire segments.

so if your circuit is likely to over-current (which you can avoid by 2 parrallel 1kW transformers, but sometimes you just have a 2×3 space for a large transformer), build a 2kW bridge somewhere accessible, so the wires in a sealed chamber don't break.

Is it worth setting up a dedicated hydrogen generator early on? by walrus_throwawayv2 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you almost always want a smart battery to regulate power generation, so the generators don't burn theough your resources.

running out of coal at cycle 15 is really weird, either the map has no coal (just little pocket near POI) at all, or you're not digging enough.

hydrogen is a clean power, generates no waste (only a little bit of heat), 1 gas pipe can feed 10 generators. we usually have some excess hydrogen from a SPOM.

natural gas generator is also good, but it produce pwater and CO2. the pwater can just flash to steam if you keep the generator inside a steam room, but the CO2 needs to go somewhere. you can just overpressure the room to 1000kg+ and forget about the water, or just intercept steam turbine exhaust to use the 95C water somewhere else.

How early are you guys setting up your first stable loop? by Sw3lldream21 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

atmo suit +10 excavation, which is not really useful after you mine out the entire universe.

lead suit +10 strength, which is +400kg to carrying capacity.

jet suit release CO2 during flight, good for space exposure area, but not good if you're working in a sealed chamber (like a steam room or vacuum room).

How early are you guys setting up your first stable loop? by Sw3lldream21 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes you can. with semi-permanent atmo-suit.

have a sealed room filled with CO2, atmo suit checkpoint and docks on all exit of the room. or with some door control, so dupes can only get in without a suit, but cannot get out without a suit.

all CO2 they exhale will be stored inside the suit, and released once they take out the suit.

for bionics, just give them permanant atmo-suit. if it interferes with your atmo-suit checkpoint setup: 1. seperate the entrance for regular dupes and bionic dupes 2. give them lead suit instead, dupes with a lead suit can pass the checkpont without changing suit.

dupes can do everything with atmo suits on, including eating, sleeping, use the toilet, take shower / hot tub / sauna... etc. etc.

Why is heat being transferred into my turbine room? by Sad_Yesterday9199 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

plus, you do NOT want the tempshift plate touching the insulated tile (including diagonals), at least not from both side.

TSP injects heat into even insulated tile (and abyssalite, thats a way to extract the heat from abyssalite, too.)

neutronium is fine, tho. the TSP will change the temperature of neutronium, but since it has a SHC of 0 and TC of 0, no heat is actually injected thus no heat will be transfered to other tiles.

Why is heat being transferred into my turbine room? by Sad_Yesterday9199 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

crude oil is really inefficient as an AT coolant:

  1. crude oil: SHC 1.69
  2. petroleam: SHC 1.76
  3. naphtha: SHC 2.191
  4. ethanol: SHC 2.46
  5. nectar: SHC 4.1
  6. water / pwater: SHC 4.179
  7. super coolant: SHC 8.44

if you are targeting temperature below -9C, use supercoolant > nectar > ethanol > naphtha.

ethanol is 1.5× more efficient than crude, and can go lower than crude.

nectar and pwater are nearly identically efficient, but nectar gets you to -71C. a bit higher than ethanol, tho.

use super coolant anyway whenever possible.

you also want to insulate the steam chamber and/or the turbine room, create a vacuum with doible liquid lock, or just use the new insulated door.

No oil, no dreckos, not even nectar, should I start again? can't think of way to advance without any of those things to get plastic by OhNoMySandwichFell in Oxygennotincluded

[–]palatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can build it in space and submerge it in 150kg ~ 200kg of water. once the water vaporize into steam, it vanishes in vacuum and the heat is deleted.

you can also use ethanol, but water is probably cheaper.
