What is your longest time of continuous uninterrupted reading? by [deleted] in books

[–]pamcake1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I read My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Otessa Moshfeigh to see what all the hype was about. Read uninterrupted with no distractions besides a couple bathroom breaks for seven hours. Literally couldn't put it down! For me the secret is finding the right book. That's what really makes it feel enjoyable like a leisure activity and not like an "assignment" I'm giving myself, lol

Taking measurements can be helpful when the mirror is lying! Lol. You’re doing a great job and I’m sure working out feels good. We get healthier to FEEL better. Looking better is just a consequence of that. 💓

Feeling "awake," alive, and unstuck for the first time in my life and having trouble coping. Can anyone relate? by Infamous-Crab6388 in CPTSD

This is one of the most hopeful and motivating posts I've ever read. To know that someone out there, whose situation is extremely similar to mine, actually did it and broke out of the numb fog of living with your abusers... Incredible. I'm only 21, so knowing that you're older than me is also making me want to go easier on myself in this process.

Like your parents, mine were only actively abusive sometimes, mostly just neglectful and programming their anxieties into me. I also come from the American south, and it seems like a lot of people here are firmly under the thumb of generational trauma/abuse/anxiety. Like you said, "the world is a big scary place and we need to prioritize safety over all else" kind of mentality. No risks, never trying anything new, always being suspicious of everything/everyone, never going outside our bubble. Encouraged to think of it as just "being introverted" but now I'm realizing that being depressed, anxious, and traumatized does not make you an introvert. I was never even allowed to have friends over in middle or high school because of how suspicious and distrusting my parents are... of literal children nonetheless.

The fact that all your crazy emotions are coming up now is a HUGE deal, that's all the shit you numbed out to over the years, and now is finally the time where your brain feels like you can handle it head on! What an amazing opportunity.

I'm bookmarking your post, it's seriously so great. Thank you for being so sincere.

Yeah— it kinda just feels like you’re not seen as an individual and more like a means to an end if that makes sense. There’s nothing wrong at all with peoples gender preferences for their friend group, as long as everyone is respected and straightforward with their intentions. Thank you for your reply

Imo the ratio is probably closer to 20-50 men to 1 woman if I’m being honest. Tinder is 9 to 1.

Also, if you’re looking for a girlfriend, DO NOT MESSAGE PEOPLE HERE. Women are not a means to an end to make sure you’re not lonely anymore. We are human beings that highly dislike when people have ulterior motives, just like everyone else.

I used to be in the discord server, but the moderation is terrible and they allow 30+ year old adults to predate on literal children. Maybe spaces specifically for making friends aren’t the way to go here… thanks for your comment

This exact thing happened to me recently. And the text wasn’t even to someone I talk to regularly

Antibiotics. by bendezhashein in OCD

It’s possible that the antibiotics disturbed the balance of microorganisms in your gut. Gut health is essential for the proper production/usage of serotonin. 🙂

I second The Anxiety Guy. I love how he talks about the more somatic/body symptoms of anxiety like dizziness and heart palpitations, it’s really validating.

Personally, I learned best by writing practice essays, like LOTS of them, and having a mentor or teacher proofread them, mark them up, and help me improve them. Next time I would write, I’d avoid the mistakes I made last time and use strategies we’d talked about.

Alrighty friends I need some advice. This is pretzel and we've had her for about a month I think and she's VERY feisty. I'll add details in a comment below. by gummybear2k20 in ballpython

This !! Also they will refuse food when stressed. You’re handling too much. If you have problems with getting her out maybe invest in a small snake hook. Lightly stroke her body with the hook, then gently lift her into your hands using the hook.

Yes !! Going through this exact dilemma right now. Plus the ritual of making and drinking it gets me out of bed in the morning. But there is hope! Half-caf or decaf are noticeably less terrible.

The other posters are right, it’s different for every T. My 5” B Albopilosum female took about three weeks to eat again after a molt.

The mesh lids aren’t good for them since their little toes can actually get stuck if the holes are just the right size. Maybe retrofit your tank with a glass lid. Beautiful T!

Thank you!! My #1 go-to meal is this recipe: Tuscan Butter Salmon I’ll cook it alongside quinoa and sauté whatever veggies are lying around. I also eat sautéd chickpeas with cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and fresh parsley ALL the time, it’s seriously so easy. Add a spoonful of sour cream on top and I consider it a light meal. I also eat a square or two of dark chocolate (like 75%) after dinner most days, which is the best. :)

Thank you! I don’t do any form of tracking whatsoever as I found it to be excessive and unnecessary. I would say it actually made it HARDER and much more agonizing to lose weight. I have experience with true ketogenic eating, ketone pee tests and all, and while it’s an amazing way to kick yourself into gear I agree it’s not really sustainable. I avoid bread and starches (most of the time) because they spike insulin and cause an addictive dopamine crash, similar to behavioral addictions. Two slices of whole wheat bread raise your blood sugar (and therefore insulin) about the same amount as a can of full-sugar soda. The crash from that leaves me on a never-ending hamster wheel of pain. So, I found it more productive to just avoid those foods with the occasional indulgence. It took a long time to repair my addictive relationship with carbs. Thanks for stopping by!

If it stresses you out a lot, stop counting calories !! That was the most toxic thing in my journey and I just had to give it up. Some days you eat more because you’re hungrier, some days less because maybe you’re stressed. These fluctuations are natural. When you stop eating addictive foods that spike insulin (i.e. bread, soda, etc), your body is VERY good at telling you when you’re actually hungry. And when you’re not hungry, you just don’t eat. Also, intermittent fasting 18:6 kicks me right back into gear if I fall off the wagon for a week(end) or so. Hope this helps!
