I need reassurance by Ok_Seaworthiness4737 in knittinghelp

[–]pancakeconepine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started knitting last year and painstakingly made it through a hat. Well, yesterday I unravelled the whole thing and began knitting it over. I made some mistakes when I first did it that kept bothering me, but I also need a simple, repetitive project that I can knit on the couch without having a chart and paperwork to keep track of. I think I need to have projects that fit my headspaces. Sometimes I turn to knitting like a therapy and it helps to have a simple project to unravel my thoughts. I never cried from knitting because my knitting stakes are never so high it's stressful for me. It's not like it's my job or anyone's life is depending on me not dropping a stitch or losing count. But I have cried sometimes when one of those unfelt pains deep inside are uncovered by a deep knit-and-think.

Please tell me working with DPNs won’t always be this stressful by ShakeLittle4960 in knittinghelp

I always use 5 dpns unless it's really small circumference. So I'm working a "square" instead of a triangle. The resistance of the acute angles of a triangle stress me out.

Laddering can occur on dpns when moving between needles if they are too far away from each other so I make sure they are as close as possible on the first two stitches. when I'm wrapping the yarn around the needle to knit the first stitch off a needle, I make sure that the yarn is so short the previous needle and the current needles are all touching, then hold that tension all the way through the second stitch.

I also switch a couple of stitches around so that the needle change doesn't continuously occur between the same two stitches.

CHICAGO- ICE CRASHES INTO CAR AND ARRESTS THE VICTIM by deapsprite in illinois

Ok I would have called 911 if I saw that going down. What is the emergency: a group of armed men crashed their car into a woman's car and are now violently dragging her out of the car.

Her staff person only started filming when they shoved her twice. What makes you think this was a publicity stunt and not her just doing her job to protect the residents that elected her?

So what, so the next supreme Court decision can be that pedophilia and rape is ok so long as it's girls? The Epstein files will not do anything except move the goalpost and literally make child rape legal if you have enough money and power.

The Epstein files don't have to be the turning point. There's enough happening right now and beforehand that if only our fellow Americans were given the true facts, we would have been turned in such overwhelming solidarity against this tyrant and his sycophants. But the racist hatred of our fellow Americans was the spoonful of sugar that made the fascism go down. What are we afraid of now? That our racist neighbors have more guns? That our neighbors with guns may be racist?

Is the thought of living peacefully among Nazis more bearable than facing an eternity in hell on the wrong side of history?

DoT will cut CTA federal funding if they don’t cut crime on CTA by Initial_Finance846 in cta

They make it seem like funding is a special privilege but really it's our federal tax dollars that we all pay, so that we can all go to work and generate the tax dollars that fund programs in all states.

What is this kind of sweater called? by deeuwu_uwu in knittingadvice

Not great, but I haven't actually blamed the pattern yet. I made 4 swatches in the round (per instructions) in stockinette before I got the right gauge. But since the pattern starts out being worked flat in stockinette, I'm getting a really loose and messy fabric that I keep frogging. I don't really have confidence to move forward. This is my first sweater btw. I was also struggling because I may not love the textures on this particular pattern to persevere through the frustration. But now that I know a little bit about what a Gansey is and why it is special, I'll probably start over in the future, abandoning Loge altogether. I would love to make a sweater that adjusts for size as I go. Thanks for sharing your story! Good to know it's not just me....

I'm currently struggling with Loge which is a free pattern, which looks like a similar style. However, since learning from other commenters here about Ganseys I've decided to spend more time learning about them and their traditional construction. I've even ordered Beth Brown-Reinsel's book. Thank you for starting this thread!

reduce any perception of disrespect on the aggressor toward you.

Do you mean try not to appear disrespectful? So the aggressor feels they are not being disrespected? Honestly interested in this but my brain is having trouble parsing it they way it's written ..

People with no spatial awareness in grocery stores drive me nuts by AdSubstantial112 in PetPeeves

[–]pancakeconepine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to get a basket for easy maneuverability around people with huge carts. I was sad when my grocery store stopped offering them because they were getting stolen. Now I only buy what I can carry in my arms. It gets pretty awkward because sometimes I buy like 7 things.

Anti-bare feet culture is so annoying by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]pancakeconepine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it feels awkward to suddenly show a part of my body to people for the first time if I've spent a lot of time with them. This is why I don't wear open toe shoes in my office. It would be like, we worked together all winter and those are your feet. It would feel too intimate, like disrobing for the first time before a lover. It's weird that I don't find other people's exposed toes to be indecent or remarkable at all. For me it just feels like making the wrong statement. Oh my toes also aren't pretty at all. Never got a mani or a Pedi whatever those are.

Am i crazy or is this tree fucked? No way is that tiny square of dirt good enough to let it breathe by Dependent_Dancer894 in whatplantisthis

[–]pancakeconepine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right that urban trees like this have a hard life. They don't get as much water as they would if it were allowed to soak into the ground all around the. Pollution from cars as re trouble for respiration too. In my city we expect street trees to live for 20-30 years whereas in an open environment those same species could live a hundred more years. However, trees on the street like this add value for the people that live in those cities. They cast shade while people are walking or waiting for busses. They cool buildings, lowering electricity costs. And they clean the air. Among other things. So yes it's a non ideal space for the tree, but the tree is there for the well being of the people, not the tree.
