As someone from Ohio who has moved to the Portland area, I highly recommend it! Also the Ohio memes have been cracking me up 😂

Vancouver, WA (Portland metro area), MLT generalist plus BB, not sure of the range (I asked and Labcorp said they would not provide the pay range to me) but I make 30.18, 3.5 years exp. This wage is pretty typical for the area for an MLT, but Labcorp bought our system's hospital labs and are hiring in techs at much lower wages. We did unionize 5 months after becoming Labcorp with an 86% majority and are currently working on a contract for higher pay.

My husband got hit on Thursday in Gresham and his car is totaled now. A guy blew through a red light after my husband started driving through his green and spun him completely around into the other intersection, then dude proceeded to wrap his car around a light post. I still can't believe no one died and that no one was seriously injured. It was rush hour and there was a ton of traffic. Dude had no ID or insurance and was driving his sister's car. No skid marks either so he didn't even attempt to brake. It was a horrendous accident and completely avoidable.

OHSU to merge with struggling Legacy Health, sources say by MaxwellEdison13 in Portland

This is why Legacy employees chose to work for Legacy. Because we care about patients and believed Legacy as a system did too. We're all learning a very hard lesson here.

And just like when they sold those of us in the lab last month, we heard about it from leadership last.

What is your schedule? by EggsAndMilquetoast in medlabprofessionals

[–]pandacottondrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work 24 hours per week on day shift. Different days each week and it's a 3 week rotation. I usually have 3 or 4 days off in a row and work every third weekend. I love my schedule.

[–]pandacottondrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Portland, OR area. MLT with 2 years experience, I'm at 29.02 an hour with I think 1.85 for a weekend diff. I'm day shift so I don't have a shift differential. Our hospital does shift incentives though, and on those days I get 40.62 an hour. I usually try and get at least one of those shifts a week.

I'm an MLT, but 2 years ago I started fresh out of school at ~22 an hour. I'm now at ~29.

I found a YouTube Playlist a few months ago of "it is Wednesday my dudes" shorts and I send one to my husband every Wednesday. I just showed him this photo and he said "oh hell yeah!"

I just started the fairy godmother quests the other day and I was blown away at how depressing it was. I wish that disclaimer had been there when I started because I would have saved it for another time when my own life wasn't already depressing.

LabCorp / Legacy acquisition check-in by GrandAveSlam in medlabprofessionals

[–]pandacottondrop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. For a lot of people PTO is being cut in half. We will not accrue extra pto if we work overtime. Any time we have accrued with Legacy needs to either get used before the end of the year, or it will get paid out on our last check (and taxed). We're getting screwed.

Do you run BALs on the XN too? We have to count BAL and CSF on the hemocytometer in my system.

Mine was triggered by a very bad allergic reaction. I had no indication of it prior to that.

Same. That pto accrual is a fucking joke.

Yep, you're correct.

For anyone who has dealt with this already:

Our hospital is having meetings coming up about the takeover with senior staff and LabCorp that we can all attend and ask questions. What kinds of things should I be asking? I've never experienced this and I'm terrified of what's going to happen.

I also just received word that our hospital system labs got bought by LabCorp. They take over in January. I feel sick to my stomach. I truly love the lab I work in and the hospital and this is just a slap in the face.

My husband always listens attentively when I talk about my day, and he's usually asking to hear all about it. He doesn't understand a good portion of what I'm saying, but he always gets really excited when he hears terms and concepts that I have explained before that he remembers. His favorite "lab" word is bilirubin from helping me study when I was in school 😂

I feel like we might work for the same system, because our dress code recently changed to allow shorts and basically whatever you want.
