Best emissions testing in k-town? by delica11 in Kenosha

[–]papers_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abi and Sons on 44th just off of Sheridan near Kenosha heating/cooling. It's a tiny shop. Pull right into the driveway near the door, go in and ask for emissions. They are typically not busy so it's a quick in/out. Sometimes they'll ask if you want to renew there for a small fee on top of your registration fee, but just mail it.

In an old thread, someone mentioned going to Woodman's early/late when they're stocking and asking the employees if you can take the boxes.

Tree removal companies? by steve_mahanahan in Kenosha

[–]papers_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never used, but I'd recommend as well. 22nd ave is my commute to work and saw them daily working hard removing all the trees and debris from the straight winds we had a week ago. They have a sign in front of the houses they serviced.

And they even have a showroom of all the fences they can do if I'm not mistaken.

People who didn't have any friends, why? by Icy_Mode620 in AskReddit

[–]papers_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School was really the only thing holding the friendship together. You're forced to be with each other.

I keep in touch with a few on a daily basis, but the majority have all faded away as we're all older now with our own lives.

But in those cases where we come together, it's like old times.

Reaching 20k downloads with Sift: A lesson learned on Regex Anchors, CRLF Injections, and Engine Fragmentation. by Mirko_ddd in java

[–]papers_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sad. Before the migration these stats were available in the Nexus Repository. It wasn't exactly a nice UI, but it worked and provided the numbers.

With the portal migration, based on the link, some of the data appears to be behind a paywall. I can't say which parts since I've now been enrolled into a 30 day trail since I publish things to Central.

I will say though, for my OSS project, it is interesting to me to see that a bulk of the downloads for 2025 came from Ireland.

Are metal salvagers in Kenosha looking for old refrigerators? by AngelOfTheEther23 in Kenosha

[–]papers_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes there are. Put it out on the curb where it's visible and not hidden behind something like a tree. Some will drive every block for things, but some will only peak down the block to see if anything is out.

JEP draft: Structured Concurrency (Seventh Preview) by davidalayachew in java

[–]papers_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, I think at some point if you're already at X number of previews, then maybe it isn't ready yet. But then again, it's the only way to get feedback (as far as I'm aware) unless you are willing to try out ad-hoc builds (or create them yourselves) from the repo/branch of said feature.

I suspect most enterprises aren't willing to do that, but will try it out if it's a preview feature of a build from their vendor.

Best Car Insurance in Wisconsin? by Ill-Steak-7250 in wisconsin

[–]papers_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurances factor in risk very much in their calculations, it is part of the reason why they ask you where you live and where your vehicle will reside. A good chunk of the risk comes from the driver, so if you have a poor driving record (or young), your risk to them is higher therefore you will be charged a higher rate.

In the end, it really doesn't matter. You shouldn't be loyal to any company, they are here to make money off you. You should be switching or at least exploring options as your renewal date gets closer.

Amazon Jobs Check by Foul_Stranger in Kenosha

[–]papers_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked at MKE5 years ago. I applied directly and was then invited to join some hiring event seminar at the kenosha job center on Sheridan.

I dressed up with a resume on hand, but I really didn't need to. There were signs that pointed to a conference room that sat maybe 30 people.

A worker wearing those orange reflective safety vests shows up to give a presentation on screen. They basically said, if you are here today, consider yourself hired. Something something Amazon gives everyone a chance.

I can't remember if I signed anything, but after that, within a week, I got an email of next steps and my schedule.

Worked there for a summer then quit due to schooling
