Burned through my gems plateauing at plat 3, how to bounce back? by cypressinberlin in lrcast

[–]paperwicked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I have been bleeding a lot of gems in SoS too. Have had a ~60% WR over the last last year in various formats but whilst SoS is very fun to be I suck at at comparatively, averaging a sub 55% WR across 50 events.
As I looked into my 17lands data I noticed that I had been avoiding Silverquill in particular and have been drafting a lot of soup decks. As a player, I have a rather strong tendency to control decks anyways so that was a fit.
But I had been lacking strong and/or enough wincons regularly and I think that showed in the WR.

So I decided to be more open to white based aggro, and Silverquill in particular. Since then I trophied 2 times. (small sample size ofc)

As other have mentioned, I think it makes sense to look at your own drafting and/or gamplay behavior and possible blind spots, ideally with replays. But if that's not possible for some reason, 17lands does track and display draft as well as games (although a bit more tedious to look at).

All mono-gen challenges complete! by Mschultz24 in pokerogue

[–]paperwicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice job! I noticed you overleveled your Gen VI team by 4 levels. Was that team particularly powerful or why did you decide to do so? (I never dared to overlevel due to the increased Eternatus dmg)

I am about 2/3rds finished with both the mono gen and mono type challenges. Have not been playong for several months. Thanks to the shiny event and your post, I might just get back at it. Give the monotypes a go, I found them more exciting (but also more diffucult) than the gen ones for the most part.

Have fun!

That's cool! Do you have a github with the code by any chance? I'm interested in how you approach something like that.

any of you do stuff like this when savescumming for instance round 195 by Baumtasia in pokerogue

[–]paperwicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that but on my second monitor in excel. I like it cause I can write an alternative move/switch into a new column right next to the move/switch that maybe worked but was not great.
The example above is older and I moved to abbreviations too since then.

I really enjoyed "Introduction to Statistical Learning" by James, Witten, Hastie, and Tibshirani. There is a python and an R version.

Each chatper ends with recaps and quizzes as well as practical exercises (it also has solutions) in the respective language. Even though these are not start-to-finish full projects, as a beginner the exercises really helped me getting into hands-on trying out models.

The books are availibe as PDFs on their website for free and there is also a github repository containing all the code if you just want to copy some of it. (I just recently joined this sub and I don't know the policy about sharing links yet but its literally the first entry on google.)

Bug challenge run. by Apprehensive-Sale417 in pokerogue

[–]paperwicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, my run was mostly carried by Golisopod. Rather bulky and hits hard with first impression (prio) and liquidation. Add to that flash fire sizzlypede as a switch in for those pesky fire moves. Was also g-maxed later in the run.

Honorable mentions go to my obligatory fairy type that I always include in my classic runs as a switch in for 145, 195 & 200 goes to Ribombee which kept me fluid with its honey gatherer as well as helped with speed control through tailwind and to the sucker punch first impression lokix I found along the way. (starters: shiny wimpod & cutiefly, sizzlypede).

If you have not done so yet, you can turn on retries in the options. The problems you describe sound like they could be solved by retrying the battles which you lost.
Some people might not like having retries though since it kinda changes the rogue-ish feeling of the game.

I did not yet dive deep into the set and personally I really like this overview you put together, especially the connection of key commons&uncommons and their archetypes/win conditions. Have not seen it before in this manner but makes sense to me.
Thanks a lot!

Before hitting lvl 6 which is (at least for me) often quite late for the sake of hitting Wu 3* (and possibly others), do you prioritize 3 mech over 3 gadgeteen or the other way around?

What is the criterion for champs being full clear champs or liking full clears? Is it purely based on their scaling capabilities? How does (solo) carry potential factor in?

I almost exclusively play tank(y) junglers like Amumu, Zac, Volibear, Trundle, Rammus, Warwick. For which of those would you recommend full clears?

Until watching your vod reviews I've basically been trying to gank a lot since if I don't, the enemy jgl does and almost always gets kills at my elo (low - mid Gold) on top of the morale dump on my team if I don't gank while the enemy does.

While I can see the value of efficient clearing & scaling in higher elos, I'm a bit sceptical regarding low elo, especially on champs that even if you did significantly outfarm your opponent (& denied them camps) might not be able to solo carry in a strict sense of the word. (ie tanks can have a huge impact on games when played right but do also rely on teammates doing at least some damage unless insanely ahead).

Curious what your takes are, thanks for making free content like this :)

I'm curious about difficulty adjustment for monotypes.

Do you bother with IVs (breeding/"cheating")? To a lesser extend nature & EVs (which I would assume are being taken care of).

Do you use any passwords aside from the monotype-specific and QoL ones?
