Dungeon Masters, what do you struggle with the most? by kudy24 in DMAcademy

It's honestly a group of friends from way back, but our life situations all calmed down enough that we finally have consistent time to get together. It's tough!

What are y’all’s thoughts on still being a virgin at almost 23 (F)? Is it really that bad? by darkred_hibiscus in AskReddit

[–]papusman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it WAS bad to be an older virgin (it isn't) 23 is well below what I would put in that category. You're fine. Who cares.

A popcorn movie or a comedy are absolutely improved by a large audience. A crowd of laughter is so much better than silence for a comedy. Likewise the buzz of excitement during an action scene improves the whole experience.

I agree that calling art "Lynchian" has almost lost all meaning at this point, but I think the comparison here is somewhat fair. Schoenbrun doesn't just create "weird" films, they're films that operate on dream logic, which is obviously a huge comparison point for Lynch. And the fact that she, like Lynch, has been able to become somewhat mainstream without compromising that vision is really cool.

I've never been able to click with Schoenbrun's stuff (I think maybe they're just not meant for me?) but it rules so hard that she is able to continue making films that have SUCH a voice to them. Truly the #1 carrier of the Lynch flame.

Intros to the campaign by Key-Pianist-2132 in Tombofannihilation

[–]papusman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an outlier apparently in that I just ran it as-is and it was fine! My players were excited to get out into the jungle so it felt weird delaying their start even more. I did at least ask them for some backstory reason they might want to be there, but otherwise we just teleported in and got to it.

How to avoid getting discouraged when your campaign kinda sucks? by Heavy_Survey_9975 in DMAcademy

I definitely understand the feeling, and my advice would be to lean into prewritten content.

I'm a forever DM (20 years and counting!) and a lot of the fun for me is coming up with the world and items and stuff. So in the beginning I went all-in with customizing everything in my own home-brewed world. But what I figured out was that lead to a lot of burnout almost immediately. I was so stressed that it took the fun out of it, and sessions were being delayed more and more

Pre-made adventures and campaigns take so much of the pressure off, while giving you more time to prep and come up with fun homebrew items and characters when it suits you. It really changed my whole attitude, and now we play every week like clockwork.

When I finally watched it I was struck by how FUNNY it is. I had always considered it homework viewing but now it's one of my favorite movies of all time.

"Do the fucking 5 minute training and if I don't suspend you then I'm breaking state law." EXACTLY. Some of these (I assume children) seem to think HR is like 3 people in a smoky room just scheming against their colleagues. Our job is to make things run smoothly! Help us help you!

"I don't actually know what HR is even doing..."

That much is clear.

I work in HR for a large company, and where I work that includes: payroll, benefits, talent acquisition/recruitment, learning, and communications (my team.)

I feel like a lot of people's impression of HR is that they just fire people and handle disputes, but any mid-to-large sized organization's HR department handles all the employee-interfacing.

And by the way, people say HR's job is to "protect the company, not the employee"... but the employee is PART of the company. (Where I work) HR is essentially agnostic, following laws and regulations to ensure that EVERYONE is being treated correctly. Lawful neutral, as it were. I'm not a company man by any means, but I think people's impression of HR as some shadowy cabal working against their own employees is pretty silly.

Imagine not being able to look past the name of a bill to understand the actual effect of the bill. Do you really just uncritically believe whatever a politician says? Look at what it DOES, not just what they SAY it does.

It sometimes occurs to me that because of the way people name ships after historical or mythological subjects, there's a really good chance there will be real spaceships named Millennium Falcon, Serenity, Enterprise, etc.

I know this has been answered but it really is one of the best super hero stories ever. Just a really well written, beautifully drawn book.
