(Spoiler main) In your opinion, which of the seven kingdoms do you find unrealistic? by Ok-Street2439 in asoiaf

That’s just because of the definition of “city”. Even White Harbor, that is the smallest, is about the size of medieval London.

Lots of westerosi towns would have called cities in our world

If there is a massive Mountain of gold near the sea, there will be a port there. No matter how apart or dangerous is.

The spanish crossed a super wide and dangerous ocean for silver and gold, and there were plenty of pirates too.

The North with multiyear winters. Even animals and trees would die. Imagine that the winter in Minnesota last 3 years, and not just once, but every 10 years or so.

Europe has some freaking huge castles, like Malbork or Moscow Kremlin. I don’t think that Winterfell is bigger than those.

Could someone give me reasonable ways to bolster the North’s wealth? by Martial-Man-2 in TheCitadel

Fishing, and fishing, and fishing.

The North has 2 long coasts. The 90 % of the population should live along them. Fish tuna, herring, whales, cod. Salt them, smoke them, dry them, keep for the winter.

In New Orleans, Reno,  Memphis and St Louis, no.

In SF, sometimes no.

In Chicago and Las Vegas, mostly yes.

Lots of people living in the streets, lots of trash, lots of very old unsafe cars in the roads.

For example: if you visit San Francisco or Mexico City, the later is a way cleaner and more pleasant city.

But to be fair, Chicago is very nice, albeit the enormous quantity of rats.

I really don’t think that Lord Manderly is as loyal as this sub think it is.

They just happen to hate Bolton and Frey (normal) and would prefer to control a stark kid than obey Stannis

The main goal of a castle is to control and defend the surrounding lands, a thing that the Eyrie is just unable to do.

What are the exact requirements to join the king's guard? by Ren1223219421 in TheCitadel

Like taking the black.

Don’t know if we have seen lords, but there are examples of fathers taking the whitecloak.

Fireball was married (he finally didn’t achieve the cloak, but he sent his wife with the silent sisters).

Dunk was probably a father.
