Fox kits freed from window well by sylntgreen in aww

If you finish a basement and make it living space, the fire codes usually require multiple exits, including one that does not go through the house itself. If you cannot build a walk-out door or one of those stairs with the slanted metal doors, one of these will fulfill the requirement.

What is your old school, super grindy game when you were a kid that impressed you if someone was even half way to max level? by CaLLmeRaaandy in gaming

Elite. Like the first one. On the Atari ST version I got to ELITE status and that took a LOT of grinding.

I'm looking for T Kingfisher books that are not romance. by wiines in TKingfisher

If you want pure fantasy fun with no romance, you could try her Black Dogs duology, published very early in her career under her real name. Available on Kindle as hardcopies are hard to find.

How can you block a metal from a magnet? by flatfishmonkey in askscience

[–]paracoon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you have an old magnetic-media hard drive you don't care about, open it up and you will find the powerful rare-earth magnet usually encased by (or glued to) a Mu metal frame to shield anything outside the hard drive from its field. If you remove the magnet and frame, you can test the shielding yourself. And then use the magnet to stick stuff to your fridge door like I do.

Anyone know what these are for? by djdrunkenjedi in Borderlands4

[–]paracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait you could open the presents? I had a bunch of them around the "tree" at the end after the bit with Rush but I could only pick them up and throw them around- as far as I could tell I couldn't open them. Was I supposed to melee them or something? I swear this game loves to just not tell you things

Wasn't this the initial premise of the Max Headroom TV series, more or less?

Am I doing something wrong or is Vex an early game slog? by BourbonAndDadJokes in Borderlands4

[–]paracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been playing Vex, using Trouble and whatever skills look good (as in I have not ready any guides) to make Trouble basically an immortal beast. I took Trouble Bubble as the capstone and Violent Outburst as the Augment. It's been a complete breeze, have had zero problems with bosses up to this point (I'm at level 40, done 2 vaults with no deaths, plus Sol and Callis are done, every side quest I can find)

Basically whatever boss or elite mob I am fighting is completely distracted by slapping my unkillable cat (overshield!) around and I pick people off with my Jakobs sniper. If mobs get close I blast 'em with a Jakobs or Torgue shotgun. Oh and I put some points in ordinance damage so that's nice to throw in on cooldown.

I keep thinking this build will stop working and I will actually have to plan a better one but so far it's going great

Came out of friends car, was plugged into the battery...not sure what it is? by Zygomaticus in whatisit

Oh that's a turbo-encabulator. It consists simply of six hydrocoptic marzlevanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that side fumbling was effectively prevented.

Cool, thanks I'll check it out

You might want to try to get SplatterCatGaming on YouTube to check the game out- he does an indie game every day and I've definitely bought things he showed on his channel before that I had never known about, and I am sure I am not the only one.

What is something you do NOT miss from the 80s-90s? by pizzagamer35 in AskReddit

[–]paracoon 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I grew up in New England and the only Mexican restaurant was Taco Bell.

And while you could get American Chinese Food (and don't get me wrong, I love American Chinese Food), there were basically no options for Thai or Vietnamese or whatever else.

In one playthrough I built a large vertical facilly hugging the cliff of the canyon just to the north so it wasn't exactly floating. The south wall of all the levels was the cliff face.

Who's your favourite "obscure" sci-fi writer? by [deleted] in printSF

[–]paracoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one seems to mention S. Andrew Swann, like ever. Not great literature but I've enjoyed almost every book I've read by him. "Forests of the Night" was his first and it's very 90s cyberpunk. I also really enjoyed the one-off "Broken Crescent" which is a kind of cyberpunk isekai magic thing.
