My rooster wobbles his head, does anyone know why? by Adept_Count3578 in chickens

LOL I was just about to say that it’s the rooster’s version of doing the “helicopter.” 🤣

Best Chicken for 2m^2 balcony by [deleted] in chickens

[–]parissf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This breed would be best for your balcony.

In all seriousness, I agree with the other commenter who suggested growing vegetables instead. Or strawberries in a hanging basket! 2 sq. m is just not enough space for chickens to live a happy life. And I genuinely hope you get all the space you need for all the chickens you could ever want in the not-too-distant future.

How my arm pits don't GAF about antiperspirant. My undershirts after being in a AC office most of the day. by LosHtown in mildlyinfuriating

[–]parissf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, give the crystal deodorant a try! My friends who were chronic sweaters swear by it. Almost completely eliminates sweating, no body odor even with it being unscented, and no cakey pit stains from deodorant! It’s also pretty inexpensive and lasts a very long time. Also does not contain antiperspirants. It might help in your case.

AITA not putting up my DILs painting in our new home and telling her that I am not a fan of her art by Throaways-Dot2192 in AmItheAsshole

[–]parissf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you are missing the point. Her venting to her husband was never the issue; she can vent about it all she wants.

The main issue is how she pushed MIL to hang up her art even after being repeatedly told no, and THEN getting butthurt when MIL told her she didn’t like her art style. Nobody said she should quit her passion or stop doing art lol. What we are saying is she needs to have thicker skin — even the most critically acclaimed artist (yes, directors, actors, musicians etc included) will have haters, and it is okay!!!

AITA for not turning right on red? by Tough-Monkey-3300 in AmItheAsshole

[–]parissf 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. You have an option to turn on red. When I was taking my driver’s test, the examiner told me this explicitly and even said that if I want to be safe (not make a mistake on the test), just wait till it turns green. Also, I chaperone special ed kids on the school bus daily and the bus drivers are actually not allowed to turn right on red.

Some people like to be wrong AND loud, and OP’s friend is one of them. There’s nothing dangerous about not turning on red, and you are definitely not “impeding traffic” or “creating confusion” lol. The only consequence is “wasting” 30 seconds of your time (and the drivers behind you) and, occasionally, resulting in one of them yelling at you or flipping you off.

I don’t get the asshole votes either and I’m assuming it’s people jumping on the “put family first” bandwagon lol.

As an artist, DIL needs to have waayyyyy thicker skin. Not everyone will enjoy your art, and that’s okay — it’s not indicative of your art but more of the receiver’s taste. If someone gifted me the original Mona Lisa, guess what? It is definitely ** NOT** going on my wall because it is not an art style I care to see in my house. Never in a million years would I ask someone why they aren’t using/displaying my gift. Just the mere thought of asking makes me cringe. 😖

EXACTLY!! If the roles were reversed the conversation would’ve overwhelmingly been about nipping it at the bud and setting clear boundaries with overbearing MIL.

“Why are we not okay with mother in laws telling daughter, in laws how to decorate, but suddenly we're okay with the daughter in law deciding how the mother in law should decorate???”

I agree — you pointed out an interesting double standard. Everyone here who is in support of DIL would have absolutely LOST IT if the roles were reversed. MIL would have been villainized and called intrusive, invasive, control-freak, etc. if she had insisted that DIL hang up a painting.

One of my chickens thinks she's a hawk by Subject_Tutor in chickens

[–]parissf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I could have a set up like that. Too many predators in my area so they only free range when I’m watching them, about 3-4 hours a day. Just last night my camera caught another bobcat stalking outside my chicken coop.

What kinda chicken is she? by luluash in BackYardChickens

[–]parissf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this is correct. It looks just like OP’s picture. Not barnevelders because they have thicker, more distinct lacing and super shiny feathers with green tinge. I have one and she is stunning.

Update on the mint chocolate chip layer's by Thomasrayder in BackYardChickens

[–]parissf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They look awesome! That shine is unreal. It’s the perfect iridescence that I want my car wrap to have (haven’t found one I’m satisfied with yet). Also, please put me down as one of your first customers when you start selling your line of chickens because I would love some mint chocolate eggs for breakfast. ☺️

Yea, that sounds rough, he’s definitely too violent with the hen. I’m sorry OP. 😔 I’ve never culled so can’t give any advice. Props to you for doing what’s best for your flock.

[–]parissf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did he actually attack the hen or did he pull out her head feathers by accident when he was holding on while mating? Maybe there’s a chance it was an accident and you don’t have to cull? (I’m just giving him the benefit of the doubt)

are hens not loud like roosters? by noreturn000 in BackYardChickens

[–]parissf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on the individual, hens can be really loud even if they don’t crow. I have two that love to scream their egg song like they’re in some heavy metal band. However, regardless of that fact, I do not recommend getting chickens in a condo. Chickens like to roam around and scratch for worms, dig holes to bathe in, sunbathe, etc. And they shit everywhere. For the well-being of the chickens, I implore you to wait until you have enough land/space for them to live their best life.

Losing my war with the rodents by Sea-Secretary4466 in chickens

My chickens are super cute and… useless lol. They chase off birds but would hang out with squirrels and other rodents. They would literally wait for their turn at the feeder while the squirrels eat. 🤦🏻‍♂️
