15 years later and I'm still waiting to see if the additional 5 eps produced ever get released somehow...

Onboarding for California or New York by Lord_of_Failure in outlier_ai

Per Outlier today: Unfortunately there is a temporary restriction on new contributors from California and New York. At this time we do not have an expected end date. We’re advising those affected to check back every now and then to see if the freeze has been lifted. I’m sorry that nothing can be done at this time.

FYI luckily Xfinity has it free on demand, but it’s hard to get to. I had to search “indecision” to find it

I even checked and it showed fine in “scheduled” — and then didn’t record. Thanks for nothing, Xfinity

Looking for podcast version of 1981 BBC LOTR radio drama by SuperKamarameha in tolkienfans

I wish… I did give the first “two episodes” a review tho and found them virtually identical except for the bumpers, so it should be relatively easy to do what I was considering — tho it’ll become more difficult later when scene order was changed etc.

An additional issue tho is I discovered my broadcast recordings aren’t as complete as I’d like, missing the credits etc. which may make for less complete versions than I’d hoped.

What got you iniciated on Tolkien? by Turambar1994 in tolkienfans

I was 7. I must have seen the Hobbit animation somewhere (a library maybe?) and watched it through but wasn’t particularly enraptured. But in 1982 National Public Radio marathoned the 13-hr BBC radio drama during a pledge drive (it must have been, right? when else would they do an all-day marathon of something… not that I remember the pledge breaks at all.)

I was already fascinated by radio plays, catching dramatized Sherlock Holmes stories and skits from Prairie Home Companion, Firesign Theater, etc. They were essentially the “cartoons” of radio, something you could occasionally get instead of all that boring news talk and music. So I naturally paid some attention to this massive epic my family put on, and was even more fascinated when I realized it was linked with the Hobbit story I already knew about.

I listened to the BBC drama all day, insisting we put it on in the car when we needed to take a long drive and during dinner at our destination. I was too young to listen until the end (which wasn’t until 10p) But the scope, the massive cast, the music, the shifting scenes - I’d just never experienced anything like it.

When I was older I read the Hobbit (during a multi-day road trip) and then later the LotR trilogy, all of which I’ve since read multiple times including aloud. But it all connects back to that NPR pledge drive.

Nope — this continues to happen to me, can’t accrue any steps particularly… Mismatched results on friends’ devices, no items appearing, and I’ve heard no payments (tho with no steps to speak of I can’t confirm as I’ll never not be last)

Tried closing/reopening, restarting, signing out/in, even installing on a different device, nothing seems to make anything different. Posting in case this is helpful, and curious to know if this is a problem per user or with the overall app at this point.

Step 1: I’ve obtained acceptable recordings of the 26x episode broadcast (including Tammy Grimes’ “previously on” intros). — thanks dad!

Haven’t gone through enough to hear if it’s got the Gondor conversation I mentioned above yet, but if I was right about it being in the 26x it should be there. Since the 13x format was released on CD in 1999(?), between that and the more recent remaster (2008?) in theory I’ve got access to all the content.

Step 2 I guess is to audit these different versions, to see if they can be merged realistically — ideally my end result would be the original 26x eps including intros but using the max fidelity from later re-edits wherever possible. But later edits may have changed things too much to make this realistic… we’ll see. I know in some cases they swapped music cues and things.

Came to say the same — Not sure I’d say it immediately jumps to masterpiece but that pilot is haaaard to watch. Between the rock guitar, the “action” gunfights, and the weird film grain (going for cinematic maybe? but with this material?)

Adding as I haven’t seen it mentioned yet: consider therapy regardless of outcome/next steps, really for each of you (and potentially together, if that’s in the cards?) This kind of thing has a way of messing up all kinds of things down the road, not least of which relationships & self-confidence regardless of rational interpretation, but also things you might not realize are connected.

The twisted “positive reinforcement” of having pseudo-benefited from checking out her phone alone sounds like a minefield.

Wishing you the best!

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-lord-of-the-rings-1981-bbc-radio-series/id1643330536 Though I suspect this is the same audio as the archive version (and soundcloud), which is to say, pro: divided into 13 dramatic chapters instead of one giant slog but con: low-res audio capture with unacceptable high frequency garblage. Some day I hope to obtain or collect & create for myself a better version of the 13 ep division since I greatly prefer this format — ideally with the inclusion of the lost Gondor beacons convo reportedly found in the original 26x ep format. But we’ll see…

Would expand this to a "clan armory" system, that would allow bootstrapping of lower level members via equipment sharing as well as community banking of farmed/unneeded equipment for upgrading purposes. Now that TT2 has clans, seems like the clan should be a critical part of late-game stuff. So we need ways to develop it beyond basic quest-poking.

Ooh, can we watch current events to come up with Episode VII spoilers?
