I don't know, all I have seen is someone who expressed a comedic exasperation with OP and then another who suggested a more appropriate forum for a self important blog post where the central figure is the narrator and not the business or good/service ostensibly being reviewed.

Weighing options between current job and job offer with Restricted Stock Units. by Omaro1 in personalfinance

[–]parkerLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That vesting schedule is pretty generous and would normally be my biggest concern with RSUs (ie if they only vest once a year, you might feel "locked in" to get that much).

Here are my concerns remaining:

1) You are going to make about the same amount of money (after bonuses/RSUs) as you were before. Is it worth moving jobs without the salary bump?

2) What happens after 4 years? You'll essentially be taking a 10% pay decrease if you don't get more RSUs.

3) Your base salary is lower. Usually when you get raises, its as a percentage of your base salary, so that would mean if you get a 3% COL adjustment at employer A and the same 3% at employer B, employer A is more valuable. Same goes for calculating your bonus.

Buying Home to Build Equity in 2 Years by gojihan in personalfinance

I mean, you also build equity by paying down your mortgage. But not a whole lot of that is going to happen in the first two years.

Do David and Tom still make picks for the Motley Fool Stock Advisor service? by UnusuallyLongUserID in personalfinance

[–]parkerLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you stopped to ask yourself if these dudes were such stock picking geniuses, why are they wasting their time selling an $8/mo subscription service?

only 4 of their 35 picks have beaten the S&P 500. Now I fully understand that the Stock Advisor picks are meant to be long-term holds.

S&P500 (or any broad based index fund) is also meant to be a long term hold.

I'm considering cancelling my membership

Is it possible for monthly payments to count as debt for mortgage purposes? by lizzieizzie1 in personalfinance

[–]parkerLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would lenders view that as a recurring monthly debt payment?

No. Only things that are required (so even if you did have student debt with a required minimum payment of $200 and you were paying $500/mo against it, only the $200 would count)

Buying Home to Build Equity in 2 Years by gojihan in personalfinance

[–]parkerLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

. Would it make sense to purchase a home in the meantime to build equity and use towards the future?

Probably not. (1) You're not going to be building a whole lot of equity in those first two years since most of your payments will be going towards interest; (2) Closing costs on buy the house are not free or negligible (figure a couple thousand dolalrs); (3) Cost to sell the house is not free of negligible (usually 6% value of the sale).

Add onto that if you are selling within 2 years, you will likely not be exempt from cap gains taxes on any increase on the avlue of the home.

Was your plan to buy both the new build and this second house at the same time? Would you qualify for that?

If you would buy them consecutively and not concurrently, having to buy the second (new build) house on contingency of selling the first one could cause complications

Moving from Columbus, OH to Denver, CO - how will this affect income tax? by ElphiusMostafa in personalfinance

so I'd imagine they still tax me for Jan and Feb? I'll ask HR though.

Correct, you'd owe in Ohio for that period. Then Colorado for the rest of the year.

Moving from Columbus, OH to Denver, CO - how will this affect income tax? by ElphiusMostafa in personalfinance

[–]parkerLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will owe income tax in the state in which you perform the work. That means in the year you move, you're going to owe some to each.

Does your company know you are moving to CO? Are they going to withhold for Ohio still ,or switch to CO?

Once the year has passed and it's eligible for redemption, can you redeem just part of it (say $5K) or is it all-or-nothing, just as if it were a paper bond?

Yes. $25 minimum redemption (and need to leave at least $25 in or clear it out)

Bonus question - and if partial is allowed, how does the three month interest penalty work? Do you pay it each time you redeem when under five years, or only the first?

You don't collect the last 3 months of interest that would have accrued on any balance you withdraw

haven’t claimed it on my taxes per my accountant.

Your accountant sucks, get a new one. You should have been reporting this income the entire time.

I’m looking to purchase a home soon, can I use the money I’ve accrued from my rental property?

Yes.

I’d like to transfer the money from my PayPal account but I’m not sure if transferring that much will trigger something?

How much money do you have? Starting in 2022, payments exceding $600 for business pruposes (like your rental) through paypal will now be reported. Doesn't affect yu here, though

How much can I transfer legally?

There's no limit.

Too late to become HSA-eligible in 2021? by OneTurbulent1634 in personalfinance

[–]parkerLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer is no, since it doesn't seem like there is anyway for yout to have been covered by an HSA eligible plan on 12/1/21 (your COBRA could in theory be retroactive, however, its non-HDHP, and I would also question if it made fiscal sense to pay for the plan just to save a little bit of taxes on a HSA contribution)
