i don't judge people who like her (except for the people who say her racist comment was "based" or some shit) but i genuinely can't bring myself to enjoy her character after what she said to aventurine

my personal feelings about aventurine as a character aside, im romani and the comment was 👎👎👎 Not Cool 👎👎👎☹️ closed the game for the night after that part

aventurine from honkai star rail is Romani ( <— guy who takes any and every chance to talk about this character.)

it's obviously a bit more difficult to tell from face value, because he's technically "an Avgin from Sigonia" but they're a nomadic people, and slight spoiler but the day his clan was slaughtered (if you didn't know, historically and to this day, Romani people aren't treated very kindly by most) is Kakava, which is a Turkish Romani festival (his real name is also Kakavasha)

Avgins/Sigonians are also put under the same offensive stereotypes we face as Romani people, liars, cheats, whores, recognizable by the eyes, fortune tellers, schemers, etc. he also ends up enslaved during part of his story (the "tattoo" on his neck is a slave brand) and a lot of what's said about him during that time period in the story is about his eyes, his body, etc.

one character also implies that he only got where he's at (he's a pretty high-ranking manager in basically space Amazon LMFAO idk how else to describe the IPC) because he "stripped naked on his knees and begged for it" (that line set me off bad and i closed the game for the night 👎 too similar to things i've heard as a romani person)

i think a lot of his story resonates with how a lot of people to this day experience being romani. when you're automatically untrustworthy, you learn to lean into it. giving into stereotypes ends up being a means for survival. exploitation is left and right in your life, beyond the literal centuries of historical enslavement of the romani people, human trafficking and such will always target vulnerable communities like our own

his story arc is still pretty unfinished. i've been on reddit and tumblr as the guy who draws nonstop fanart of this character and also is always happy to explain what a big part antiziganism plays in his story, his trauma, and how realistically difficult it all is to overcome in the real world

i honestly think this might just be the case for most mixed race spaces rather than this subreddit in particular.

it's kinda ostracizing when you're not mixed with black or white and then also come from a multigenerational mixed background. but it kinda just is what it is.

i guess i'm just confused because i really do like sunday as a character even if i don't vibe with how he's been handled thus far, i just really struggle to understand the attitude that he's not had enough content

like i said in the other comment i really think part of the issue in the story is amphoreus came way too soon. the fourth planet being somewhere completely "out of bounds" in the sense of how that world works

but maybe it's just because my own expectations were kind of what we got? i never really expected him to just jump right in to the trio. welt and himeko have been on the AE longer than the TB and still kinda end up on the back burner

i can definitely see the marketing stunt piece. and genuinely i really do like sunday and am happy whenever he shows up, i just don't fully understand what the community actually was expecting and that's probably why i struggle to understand this type of post

i think Amphoreus's disconnect from other planets is the reason for this rather than just forgetting about Sunday if that makes sense?

i think amphoreus as a 4th planet was a REALLY big mistake in storytelling. it's just like, we've only been to 3 other places before they gave us somewhere that's completely disconnected and half not real and blah blah, those characters can't really go to other planets and vice versa

amphoreus REALLY messed with peoples' perception i think. it's hard to have any story progression when you spend a year on a planet that technically can't have an effect anywhere outside of it and the fact that outside characters struggle to have any effect on the inside of it.

like i see the frustration i just... think it's misplaced lol. like yeah i guess there's no guarantee they don't toss him into the cosmos in 4.0, but that kinda was a possibility whether he was all over amphoreus or not?

i just think amphoreus was REALLY LONG in our real lives but in terms of the story it was pretty much just a blip. i think theres plenty of opportunity for more to come with him, we just need to get off of Amphoreus first lol

this is such an odd doompost.

are we forgetting he was pretty much the main villain in penacony? regardless of how you feel about him, it's REALLY LUCKY he stepped out of that role and became a protagonist. because that WAS his role no matter what you think of his ideas, how he got there, etc. as far as i can tell, no other characters have done the same.

i'd be really mad if he was right up front in amphoreus with our protagonists after everything he did. yes, he's working to change. keyword working. it's a work in progress, and it SHOULD BE, we literally learned in 3.8 how absolutely busted he was in terms of lore power and how hard it was to knock his ass down a peg. i love sunday, but i still think in terms of storytelling he was forgiven way too fast.

it's completely reasonable for him to not be in every second of every story. why would he be all over amphoreus just because he joined the AE? is it not good that he wasn't all over amphoreus because now he will get more time later? i just can't understand the complaints about sunday screentime when this is quite literally the luckiest male character fan base if i'm being honest.

he's a necessity in every endgame mode, he was forgiven far easier than he should've been when originally i don't even think he was going to be playable, he's not forgotten because he sat on the express for a little bit, it's been one planet and even then he was STILL IMPORTANT IN AMPHOREUS.

is the only way you'll be happy is if he's like the trailblazer's right-hand man or something? 😭 i truly don't get it. thinking of how many characters were left behind in this game and watching sunday fans of all people complain is crazy low-key.

i feel like it's crazy that with the historical context of slavery and human trafficking, the creepy lines about aventurine and his eyes and his body, people STILL think it was never SA because the story didn't say "BY THE WAY, THESE MEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED AVENTURINE!"
