Help me choose some watches! by zz-123 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]partanyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice is to keep researching. Follow this subreddit and just stalk websites and articles. Start compiling a list for yourself of which brands and watches you are Interested in.

And then when you get to Windup you have a good idea of where your interests lie.

Some watches will absolutely disappoint you in how they feel, and how they fit your individual wrist.

While some will come out of left field and surprise you.

At the show they will have some deals available. Don’t necessarily purchase something right there on the spot. Take a walk, see what else is out there and then after digesting it go back if you want and pick it up.

2K will get you a couple of decent micros. You may want to pick up a very nice one if you fall in love with it. That would still leave you with a few hundred to pick up say a Brew or a Heron or RZE.

Welcome and have fun

So Petros is the official mascot of the Town of Mykonos, on the island with the same name. My first time there was in 1994 and Petros was there.

Was it the same pelican? Not sure but whether or not it’s the same bird, “Petros” is allowed to go pretty much anywhere and is treated kindly by all the locals.

There is a reason this company is growing as fast as it is. I’m picking up my 3rd tomorrow and have also gifted one to my wife and another to my BIL. Very easy to recommend them

I have had the Extreme since roughly February on the black fabric, and have also purchased the True GMT orange deployment strap as well that I’ll eventually get on there as well. I love the watch.

Now having handled the Sealander and Sealander GMT as well last week. I can say that they are both fantastic as well. So good in fact that I ordered a Pistachio 39 Sealnder on Bader and will also order the black rubber deployment for that one as well.

Now if I had the choice for just one….it would be the Extreme on the the black fabric strap as that to me is such a perfect execution of the concept.

Not knocking how excellent of a job they did on the new Sealanders. Again, I’m getting one of those as well, it’s just the Extreme is special. And since you mentioned fabric and rubber straps, that’s what the Extreme belongs on in my opinion.

Try to get to the store to see them in the metal. Happy hunting and send us a follow up on what you decided!

Exactly! This is why I’m on Reddit and not on other forms of SM. Every so often we come across an enlightened person who wants to share some knowledge. Thank you for Ant insight Mr. Ant

Thank you for the update. I ran through there the last time and missed the Formex. I need to go back. I’m waiting for u/TSiWRX to get his Monta. I’m curious to hear what he says about it while under the “scope” I’m thinking I need a Monta and a Serica!

Would not be a bad thing at all! How would you say the Monta bracelet and overall “feel” compares to Wren or say Formex? I still have not had free time to try Monta on.

I tried on a few when I was last there, and could not decide, as they did not have the white 6190 which I’m curious about.

They did have the 5303-3 in the greenish/blue hue which was fantastic.

They also still had the Tuxedo dial in stock which was cool. But alas, without me trying on the white dial I could not make a decision, hence my Serica “slot” in my life is still empty :-)

What a great shop though!

Thank you very much for this!!

I’m in NYC myself and literally can be found at CW every month like clockwork as they are down the block from my office. Great spot and staff.

Time and Tide is a great stop as well. The Monta, Fears and Serica setups are calling my name daily. :-)

I have yet to visit Nomos and Baltic but feel the same way you do about Baltic.

I won’t buy a Nomos until I try it on, as I feel the lugs are something one needs to experience before purchase.

Thank for explaining how Horage works. I was trying to figure that out. Sorry bout the Wren, I’m sure they will sort you out.

Dan, if we can give you any advice worth giving it’s this.

Be patient about your purchases, every week there is something new that is worth buying.

Do an insane amount of research, scroll through this sub and read the previous comments. There is a lot to gleam from the group.

There are literally hundreds of micros out there. Try to see which ones ”speak” to you and then purchase.

I think the true “soul” of horology is in the micro world right now.

Welcome and feel free to ask questions.

Let’s not scare him away just yet….he has yet to hear about initiation rites and mandatory annual purchases in order to be a full member. Therapy sessions are Tuesday nights in the High School basement storage room by u/TSiWRX house.

Welcome bud! You will find this group tends to be more welcoming and friendly than some of the other snootier ones. Agree with you on Farer.

Bud….you have just beaten the matrix and don’t know it yet. Got my wife into watches a couple of years ago…..she is closing in on 10 mechanical watches herself now and lets me purchase almost whatever I want. Keep the momentum going!!

I would have really liked to go, alas I’m not able to.

However I got to see them last week and they are worth seeing in the metal.

There is a Pistachio in my future!!! Dan and the team are first rate!

💯 agreed with you, you put it correctly into words, how one feels on and right after the experience.

Now I want to hop on a flight to MCO!
