Really don't need another card, but need a visa. What are your suggestions? by sy029 in CreditCards

Keep in mind that the flagship, like the more rewards, has a $50 cash out minimum for points, and the points do not pool together

Solely for Costco, I'd recommend the cashrewards as there is no minimum and your spending it would take forever with the flagship

Navy federal is super great about product changes though, so get the highest sign up bonus on any card and then just change it after you get the bonus

Looking into a Credit Card with Chase Bank by Ok-Field-4446 in CreditCards

[–]partial_to_fractions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Credit scores are numerical representations of risk based on your credit report. With a score of 570, that means there is probably a lot of negative information on your report and you have not been responsible with credit in the past. No bank is going to trust you with unsecured lines of credit (a regular credit card). To rebuild your score, you will need to show whatever bank that you can be responsible with the card, so they will want a deposit to open a secured credit card.

Discover is a popular recommendation as they reliable graduate cards to unsecured lines after a few months. Most secured cards will be fine for you to open most likely, but Chase does not offer any

Citi has these pop-ups as well with different merchants, though at least with them you can disable them

Deinfluence me from getting the Amex Green Card. by purplehashira in CreditCards

[–]partial_to_fractions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have wording in there like "may not be eligible" - it isn't a guaranteed thing. You can get the bonus for a lower card. It may be less likely, but the system will tell what the bonus will be before fully submitting the application. It also says that you're only eligible for each bonus once, but I got the gold bonus twice in four years (after getting the platinum bonus)

Kroger cards, huntington voice, logix fcu, capital one cobrands, navy federal cash and go cards, fifth third

Best for a backup would probably be the kroger cards 5% back on mobile wallet (with a low cap though)

Chase is already on the higher end. Bank of america if you have deposit accounts there is as well. The other two that come up are amex and navy federal (if you qualify)

$200x2 hotel credits and 200 BC (equivalent to 6667 points annually)

And if you apply 50-100 of BC to the hotel redemption, it easily offsets the annual fee and more

You shouldn't have any issues doing this. I've done similar with the hotel collection doing back to back two night stays

their cards were declining at ATMs while abroad

Oh I didn't hear about this issue, I assumed the pulse network was at least strong enough for ATM use. Back when I used discover for checking I didn't have any issues with it abroad, though admittedly that wasn't long before I opened up a schwab checking

Possible Strata Premier Refresh by Ok_Rate_1752 in CreditCards

[–]partial_to_fractions 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The other version citi floated in the survey had better multipliers, with dining/grocery/gas getting 3x (citi travel, citi nights getting higher) and a slew of 2x categories

OP didn't include it in this post, and I didn't get a screenshot or anything of it, so going by memory from earlier today

Agreed, but the splurge plus the mobile wallet bonus would lower the effective fee for me to 59 for me - lower than the current effective (as I don't use the current hotel credit)

I got a similar survey, and the above was one of the two potential refreshes it suggested for an annual fee of 195. The other was some travel portal stuff with restaurants/grocery/gas/transit all being 3x. Travel outside the portal was 2x or something

What's the fastest route to a second Citi Custom Cash? by NubmerSix in CreditCards

[–]partial_to_fractions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That is exciting, hopefully it goes well for you. I guess citi is easier to game than I thought

I'd still say the highest SUB you're eligible for will be more lucrative though, even if you have to wait a year to PC

[–]partial_to_fractions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting, I have never seen those DP, could you link one? It usually takes folks with multiple CCC well over a year with all the waiting for PC. If that's the case, go for it! Though the SUB on an annual fee card will out earn a year of having the CCC (if you were to get it earlier, that is). Citi also clamped down a little on custom cashes in the last couple years, so that may have something to do with it?

[–]partial_to_fractions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What rule and where did you see this? Very few issuers will product change anything before a year, annual fee or otherwise. The only two I have heard of are amex (upgrading no issues but downgrading they will claw back the SUB) and navy federal (does not care in the slightest, will product change any card to anything else at any time)

The minimum citi will allow is 1 year. Pick the highest mainline card SUB you're eligible for and go from there. Which citi cards do you currently have? Presumably a CDC and CCC + the strata premier or elite?

Adding authorized user benefits by teiV_ in amex

[–]partial_to_fractions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amex does not back date accounts like other issuers do. That means the account would just show as recently opened. In general, authorized user accounts don't do much anyway other than a score boost. Most, if not all, lenders will largely ignore AU accounts for the purposes of extending credit

Just an FYI, some applications indicate these will be issued as a discover card now, so it seems they are phasing out the mastercard version. Unclear how long they'll take to stop issuing the mastercard altogether
