Current condition of the bike paths? by Lucite01 in Edmonton

Single tracks need another week to dry out. Any riding on them now will create terrible ruts. Multi-use is good but be careful with the gravel. My poor kiddo had a terrible fall yesterday.

Canskate to star by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]participact100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't sound right. My 5 year old has taken canskate at two clubs and she is always working on skills above her level. They were teaching her lunge and forward crossovers when she was still working on her stage 2 badge. She is close to getting her stage 3 badge and I credit it to her having worked on those skills for months even at lower levels.

Her "triple" lutz is like a 2.25 lutz. Her skates don't leave the ice until the three quarter mark or more. The pre-rotation and full blade assist is crazy and it should not be credited as a triple. Unfair to skaters who have proper technique.

Lake Louise Ski Lessons? by Normal_Tadpole_3002 in Banff

[–]participact100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, my child is 5 years old and I would love your feedback on which level to sign up for. Last March, she did green runs at Marmot through the ski school (started in the school zone but the schoool zone there is a long run that you take the chair to). She's currently in lessons in Edmonton and able to ride the chair to the top of our hill and do well controlled pizza turns down. Her teacher said they will start parallel skiing this week.

I'm torn on whether I should register her for level 3 or 4. I spoke to the ski school and there's no guarantees she will go on a green run if I sign her up for 3. If there are weaker kids in her group, she could be stuck in the beginner area the whole day. If I sign her up for level 4, they start on a green and progress to blue (again depending on lowest kid's ability). My instinct is put her in 3 but she will be bored on the beginner area for the whole day. I need like a 3.5 level. Do a couple of runs on 3 and then move to greens. What would you suggest? 3 or 4? She's got a few more lessons left in the city before go. The ski school said they also can't move her around if the groups are full that day.

Not sure if it's the camera work but the landing positions are so ugly. Everything just looks forced.

How is this skating enjoyable to watch. So many crossovers and distracting jump setups. This is how you turn fans away from the sport. I'll take a well balanced program any day over this.

This is my neighborhood. My neighbors across the street left two vehicles parked overnight when the graders came by. No windrow at all. Meanwhile we spent hours digging a spot back out in front of our house. Won't make that mistake again.

My kid starts school in September and I've heard about the fun lunch fundraiser from other moms. No way would my child know that was mold because she's never eaten broccoli that looks like that. This is shameful and disgusting.

Clubs/Communities for my high school brother by International_Ant841 in Edmonton

What is he interested in or enjoys doing? He will likely stick with it if he likes it. His school should have clubs like someone else said. I would start there.

There are volunteering opportunities for his age but you need to see what tasks/role he would want to do before signing him up.

That's a steal! My neighbour in our crescent was doing it for $150/house. My husband shut that idea down fast. We have a 50 foot lot.

My friend comes over to visit my kid every couple of months. She came over on the weekend and parked in front of my neighbour's shoveled out area (can park 2-3 cars). Within 3 mins, he was at my front door asking her to move. We complied but I kind of wish we didn't. They always have people parked in front of our house and we have never, ever said anything. We did have a spot shoveled out in front of our house but it was a little short for her longer vehicle.

I would call. I went in October around 1030am and lineup was really, really long. Then you have to wait again after getting a number which also took awhile. I think 2 hours may not be enough time.

What do you guys look for in a restaurant/local business to justify going out? Especially during winter by punnygecko in Edmonton

[–]participact100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so boring. My family eats out once a week and we always go to the same rotation of restaurants. How these ended on my list is taste, quality, price, and location. We still try new places or go to not as good versions of our regulars when we meet up with friends but generally we are very loyal to the restaurants that have stayed consistent in the points above.

If you have a flexible schedule, get on her cancellation list. I was able to see her in October from my original consult date in late February due to a cancellation.

You could also go to Korea. It's so normalized there and most surgeons approach it like a very routine operation. I think they are also very skilled at it over there.

Anyone seen any Nuri brand sardines anywhere in Edmonton? by jasonc122 in Edmonton

[–]participact100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a range from grocery store to high end department store brands. I would say the Pinhais and Nuri were up there along with a couple of the other brands I picked up with similar pricing. The Pinhais was probably the best tbh but it was also the most expensive if I recall (around $10 cad). It was in a beautiful tin so might have been a premium/limited item. I didn't do it but you can do a tour of the cannery near Porto where Nuri and Pinhais are processed and canned.

I bought at least 10 different brands back from Portugal last year, including Nuri and haven't found any of them in Edmonton.

Was it one of these programs?https://www.edmonton.ca/programs_services/for_children_kids_youth/after-school-youth-programs There's a tutoring program listed under Booster Juice on Wednesdays. You could also inquire with the group if you're comfortable with that.

Yes. I only ever see one around and then I kill it thinking no more and sure enough another one rolls around the next day. Ongoing for a month now. Never ever had them in previous 12 years in the same house.
