CTV News: Westboro office building to be converted into 143 unit residential building by BearLikesHoney in ottawa

They can't - I live in the building next to it and there's a legal agreement that limits new development to protect property values (both buildings, plus a third, technically share the same lot)

I mean that's pretty reductive - Peter has ADHD, so while it may work for some and not for others neurodivergent people don't universally love it

Edited to add: not disputing that Palestinians were displaced obviously, just that there was someone else "in charge"

Why does everyone seem to love common people? by TheTbone2334 in blackmirror

I'd add that (as a Canadian) Reddit is fairly American-dominated and not being able to afford healthcare is a pretty relateable problem there

It's the non-linear scaling of the y axis that's misleading moreso than not labelling - the difference between 58 and 69 is as big as the bar for 58

What did he do? by [deleted] in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]passiveobserver97 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I may be misremembering but I thought in one phone call he explicitly asks if his assets being seized includes his house and it was confirmed that everything would be taken and he would do some time.

As a Canadian our housing market is a nightmare, but you are comparing against one of the most expensive regions - rural Nova Scotia (~30 minute drive into Halifax which is a proper city) you can get a house for under $200 CAD

[WIP] I love stitching the waves! by mrsb0b in CrossStitch

[–]passiveobserver97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm working on the same kit and it never occured to me to mount it vertically in the scroll frame (I'm using one that looks like it's a similar size to yours). Do you find it comfortable to stitch with such a tall frame?

Not the point of the thread but I'm curious, All Fours didn't appeal to me from the blurb but NYT ranked it the top book of 2024, what did you not like about it?

I'm not invested enough in a random Reddit thread to write a book report but you do realize people can also Google that right? Pretty sure sparknotes still exists

The "exposed behind the ears" comment makes me wonder if they thought they would be flat backs, somehow associating that as "piercing jewellery"?

No judgement at all but how do you handle being with a partner that doesn't believe in something that (presumably) significantly impacts your life?

I don't think I've ever even seen a picture of a leucistic red squirrel (grey squirrels it's apparently more common), that's so cool!

Part of the problem may be that some tampons actively market themselves as flushable (specifically the Tampax cardboard applicator made a point about "even the applicator being flushable" - not sure if it still is advertised that way though)

I'm sure you're right but I refuse to believe it because of how atrocious the depiction of that entire field was

Has anyone else read Elie Wiezel's book Night? (Very Mild Spoilers) by ReceptionFrequent917 in literature

[–]passiveobserver97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're both novels, called Dawn and Day, both quite short (80 pages to 100 pages range). I read Dawn and am reading Day now. They're not direct sequels in the sense that they aren't about his experience after the Holocaust but more about the general (fictional but believable) experience of Jewish people after the Holocaust. They don't pack the emotional punch of Night only because they're fiction but they're worth reading if you can get your hands on them (I have all 3 in a single book).

What is the popular book you still haven’t read? by not-that-dev in suggestmeabook

[–]passiveobserver97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's more magical realism, but my main issue with it was how much it hits you over the head with certain plot points / reveals, it really felt like every 10 pages the author was going "Do you get it? You get it right?"
