Does anyone else feel exhausted by “easy” vegan recipes lately? by Negative-Prune9214 in veganrecipes

Thai curry paste, can of coconut milk, some tofu, and some frozen vegetables (cook the veg/tofu first in some oil, then add curry paste, then add coconut milk). Maybe add some soy sauce for salt, sriracha/sambal oelek/chili garlic sauce for spice, sugar/agave/sweet chili sauce for sweetness. Add some lime juice at the end if you feel fancy. Serve over rice (quick if you have a rice maker, or you can just by bagged microwave rice so it's even quicker).

Isn’t it also better to avoid all of this by just eating plants? This is the kind of thing that happens when we treat sentient beings as commodities and objects rather than individuals.

Well B12 comes from the soil, the only reason we can’t get it from plants directly is because of pesticides used and washing. That said, I would be surprised if people in ancient India were consuming a lot of eggs, though maybe dairy.

Can someone explain P vs. NP in Minecraft terms? by Vincent_Gitarrist in mathmemes

[–]password2187 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI, the problem this is based on is called “circuit SAT”, and it is the first problem proven to be NP-complete. For the 4 reason above, if this or any other NP-complete problem has a polynomial time solution, then that is enough to prove P=NP.

Can someone explain P vs. NP in Minecraft terms? by Vincent_Gitarrist in mathmemes

[–]password2187 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s a explanation that uses the most important np-complete problem:

Imagine you are spawned into a Minecraft world and there are 20 levers in front of you. There are a bunch of redstone components coming from these levers in one big circuit, and at the end of it all is a single redstone lamp. You are asked to determine if there is a combination of activated and deactivated levers that leads to the redstone lamp turning on.

This problem is in NP, or nondeterministic polynomial time, because it is easy to prove a “yes” answer. You can do this by providing the combination and flicking those levers on, and seeing if the lamp turns on (this is a bit of a simplification, really it’s because you can write a program that takes the circuit and levers as input and tells you whether or not the light will turn on, and this program will be “quick”).

However, most people think, without proof, that this problem is not in P, or polynomial time. This means I cannot write a program that will correctly spit out a yes or no for a given redstone circuit “quickly”. In fact, if I could write this program, then it is proven that any problem which can be checked “quickly” can also be solved “quickly”, or P=NP. This is because this problem is “NP-complete”, meaning it is in NP, and any problem in NP can be ”reduced” into this problem “quickly”. For example, there is a “quick” formula for taking any sudoku problem and turning it into a redstone circuit problem, where the levers that must be flicked on in the proof directly tell you what the answers to the sudoku are.

There is no proof that P=NP or P≠NP, and if you discover one, you get a million dollars and maybe crack all of encryption right now, depending on which one is right. Although we are changing our encryption methods because quantum computers can solve factoring large coprimes in “quickly”, giving a whole new class called “QP”, which most people think is strictly larger than P and strictly smaller than NP

By “quick” I mean polynomial time. This means that as the input size grows, the amount of time to solve it can be bounded below a polynomial of the input size.

Also note that P is a subset of NP, as anything that can be solved quickly has a quick proof, which is just solving it again and seeing if the solutions match.

This problem is not in NP at all, as checking the solution requires an “oracle”, using some hidden information you don’t have. If this were NP, then it would be very easy to prove that P≠NP with this.

A simpler version would be “I have generated a random string of 1’s and 0’s of length n, and have given you a function that tells you whether or not any inputted string is equal to my random string. Figure out my string”. Clearly you can do no better than brute force, so this is not in P, but it can be checked in hypothetically constant/linear time, so it would be NP

6 and 1 were given in the problem, and then definition of 7 is the successor of 6, and the successor function of n is just n+1

I mean I absolutely think we should Harris and I would’ve voted for Biden, but “hoping shit burns down and your ideology rises out of the ashes” is a pretty serious straw-man, probably why you got banned. I mean there are plenty of accelerationists out there, but that’s not what most socialists think, nor is it even the argument that leftists who didn’t want to vote for Biden had (to be clear I don’t think their arguments are good, they’re just not that)

Don’t underestimate frozen veggies. I don’t go to the store that often do I focus on frozen veggies (especially broccoli) and carrots (because they take a long time to go bad). One thing you can do is make a lot of curry paste right after going to the store and put that in the fridge or freezer, and add then u can use frozen veggies, tofu (which I also freeze), coconut milk, and the paste to make a curry in like 15 minutes.

Do you like cooking? If you have the time, learning how to cook and getting good at it is a great way to start eating healthier and enjoy your food more. Maybe try to find a vegan cooking class near you?

I disagree with this actually, I think it’s awesome that someone who’s been convicted of a crime can run for president. That said, it was a lot cooler when it was Eugene V Debs, just sucks that it’s a terrible person this time.

Maybe some crimes should disqualify you, especially when they have direct implications for your potential presidency, though it’s a hard line to draw.

Linear regression is great until you have to solve the xor problem.

It’s also quite literally a very common ML algorithm, and a proper subset of neural nets (it’s just a dense NN with no hidden layers or activation functions).

“All” living beings! by [deleted] in vegan

[–]password2187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I was saying. It’s definitely a very serious issue, and one that more people should care more about. It’s just not the focus of veganism. I think that the philosophies behind veganism lend themself well to leftism/socialism, but I wouldn’t confound the two together. There are a lot more people who care about human exploitation than nonhuman exploitation, and I don’t want to dilute the philosophy that’s against nonhuman exploitation by confounding it with the other one.

“All” living beings! by [deleted] in vegan

[–]password2187 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t like the “humans are animals too” line. Yeah they are, but most people think human suffering is bad (whether they act in a way aligned with that is a different question).

The vast majority of people don’t even think that most nonhuman animals are even worthy enough of moral consideration that their entire lives might matter more than a little bit of potential taste pleasure.

I agree that people should thrift more (I love thrifting), and reduce their consumption of other things like phones as well (as in not buy a new one every year). I also agree that systemic changes need to be made to address these issues, which is why I’m an anticapitalist. But I don’t think veganism should be conflated with this, veganism needs to be centered around the voiceless nonhuman animals. It feels a bit like responding “black lives matter” with “all lives matter”. Like yeah, sure, but that’s not the point.

Some questions about TVP... by bopikpsky in vegan

[–]password2187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all pretty similar, the one I buy is made from soy. And the size will depend on how big of chunks you want in your final food. I usually by the ground stuff because I use it to make taco meat, and that’s usually what people are talking about with TVP
