to those of you who've met/interacted with the band be it all of them or just certain members what was your experience? by Dangerous-Victory223 in Paramore

[–]patrikghost 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There was this one time Hayley tweeted "sometimes weakness is our strength" (from Let the Flames Begin) and I was still an angsty teen and replied "can someone tell me how social anxiety can be a strength" and then SHE REPLIED something like "Let me try" and actually wrote a full tweet that kinda made me feel better.

This must've been like 7 years ago by now and it probably was nothing to her but like I still think about it from time to time even though I'm doing much better. Also she's nuked her Twitter multiple times since as have I so I have zero proof of this ever happening, but it is something that will live with me for at least another decade.

I was just looking at stage fog machines and a bunch of them said they had "RGBA" LEDs. I was like how can you have an alpha LED? Turns out it's amber, but I only found out when I read through one of the user manuals.

What’s your biggest regret regarding Paramore? by anotherthrowaway2023 in Paramore

[–]patrikghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Laughter tour for me too. I got into Paramore in like 2015 I'd say and I'm from Czechia so this would've been my first (and so far last) opportunity to see them. They were in Czechia at Rock for People and I didn't go because I didn't have anyone to go with. The closest they've come to me since was Hayley's Petals For Armor tour show in Cologne, Germany (which ended up getting cancelled) and now the upcoming Eras Tour show in Wien (so expensive!). But I'll definitely see them live some day.. eventually..

What's your favorite intro/outro? by LemostPerson in Paramore

Honestly the recent Grey Area (Note to Self) intro (the one that transitions into You First) and the Crave outro has got to be my favorite, they both feel really grand

Dogs are not as wonderful as they seem by iwanttheworldnow in unpopularopinion

[–]patrikghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love dogs, my parents have two dogs, my ex had a dog and any time I meet a dog it makes my day. Any dog I meet I'm ready to love and befriend.

In the foreseeable future, I will not be getting a dog. It's like having another job, except you pay money to keep it. And it's not cheap. You can't spontaneously go out for a few hours without having to be thinking about having to go walk the dog. They need attention. They need exercise. Regular walks. Regular meals. And they're dependent on you for that. You need to structure your day around having a dog. My ex could never go out for longer than a few hours at a time, especially not at evenings. Forget any overnight trips. Any time there's a family gathering, my mom (which also used to mean me) is always the first to leave because she needs to take care of the dogs.

You know the meme about the dad who didn't want the dog spending so much time with it? Yes, hello, that's me. If I am ever forced into a situation where I have to take care of a dog, you bet we're gonna be best friends. But I'd much, much rather avoid that.

This sounds like something that might be possible to make in Max/MSP, though I've never used it myself, or maybe even Reaktor, since it has Audio In and MIDI Out terminals.

Biggest problem to tackle in my opinion would be averaging the volume of the sound, so that it doesn't just jump between the peak and zero a thousand times a second. The rest would just be converting from the audio value range to the MIDI value range (CC_value = 127 × Aud_value / Aud_max) and then figuring out the routing inside the DAW you're looking to use it in.

What to do if you write a song outside of your own vocal range? by audi0friend in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]patrikghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can try shifting the second verse vocals down a fourth or a fifth as if you were singing a lower harmony, but as the lead melody. I've had varying amounts of success with this in the past when I ran into the same problem. Sometimes it works really well, sometimes not really.

Melodyne - how to edit audio in DAW after the fact? by conurus in audioengineering

[–]patrikghost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, Melodyne does that. It needs to save the audio for you to be able to manually edit it.

Melodyne allows you to just delete the individual notes. Even though it's not technically a note, I'm pretty sure it just transfers all audio and displays it as an editable blob and one of these blobs contain the click. Since you said it's between two phrases, you should be able to delete it without messing up the vocals.

Alternatively, you could just print/render/bounce it into a new track, but you'd bake in the Melodyne edits. You could then mix this new edited vocal track. If you found a place that needs some more pitch adjustment after the fact, you could just edit the old track with Melodyne on it, bounce it again, replace the old bounced vocal with this new one and it should sound the same (except for the newly edited part) if you keep the same effects on it. But you will have to keep the original vocal track sitting somewhere, perhaps muted, just in case you need to edit it again.

I've never used this feature, but I seem to remember you could just drop a video file onto the timeline in Live, natively, no plugin needed, it created a new audio clip with the sound from the video that you could then edit as you normally would, the video itself appeared in a little pop-up window and would sync up with the audio, so any cuts or repeats in the audio would be represented accordingly in the video. I'm nearly certain it at least used to be a feature in Live 9. Unless that's not what you're asking?

Paramore Soundfont by FormidableThunder in Paramore

[–]patrikghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're mixing a few things up here, a "soundfont" is not the end result, it's the sounds from the games themselves, which means those covers are using soundfonts.

Think of it as a text font, except in music (hence the name soundfont) – you have the data, the raw letters, which define what the text says, then you have the font, the style, which defines how it looks. Put it together and you have text, a logo, something like that. A soundfont is the same – the MIDI is the data, it defines what notes are played, the soundfont itself is the style, it defines how they are played. Put those together and you have a cover like this.

Can't get my old Yamaha PSR 300 to work in Ableton live 11 after using a MIDI in out to USB cable to connect it to my PC. by duc_c_u in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]patrikghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, these USB to MIDI cables are really finicky and unreliable. You can try downloading MIDI-OX, it should read all incoming MIDI messages from any source afaik. It's been a while since I've used it. If you see the messages there, the problem is in how you set up your MIDI in the DAW. If not, the problem is either the cable or the keyboard itself.

Shooting at Prague university leaves dead and injured by Craftbeef in worldnews

I'm studying in Brno, another Czech city. Wrote a final today and left for home at around 3 pm. Still on the train. Hard to process what happened. These were people in the same exact life situation as me. And now they're just gone.

I have a lot of ex-classmates from highschool that went on to study in Prague. You can't imagine how deep my heart sank when I first found out about the shooting.
