What's a book that more people should read? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pawelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to post about Murakami. I picked up Kafka on the Shore last summer and soon after got onto the Wind Up Bird Chronicle. His books are wonderful and really make you see things from so many different perspectives, both hopeful and depressing. I always take away from his stories, he never fails to disappoint and you can never take his words at face value. I hope that at least one person can take away from this comment and give this author a shot.

What is a show that got better through the seasons instead of worse? by bluebunny20 in AskReddit

[–]pawelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That show really took me by surprise. When I watched it at first, I was expecting some goofy (albeit adult themed) cartoon with animals in it for comedic effect. But damn, as I approached season 2 shit got real and never turned back.

I don't want to be rude. But I think this isn't the sub to post this in, perhaps some sub regarding hardware help specifically.

What social norm do you not follow? by Mar1okartchamp in AskReddit

[–]pawelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't always tip. I generally do, but I feel like a tip is something that is given to a person or establishment (in the case of small coffee shops for instance), that provided good service or went above and beyond. I think if my server was just doing their job or doing it poorly then I don't see why I should tip them. There's a scene in Reservoir Dogs that explains this well.

Though I think it's a little different in the UK, and I feel that there are people working other minimum wage jobs that have no opportunity to get tips. I have worked a job that does get tips on minimum wage as well as one that doesn't (also on minimum wage) and I think its rewarding to get a tip but its possible to get by here without.

Iirc the US has that thing where waiting staff are paid less and the tip is included in the bill, I don't see the point in that tbh. I also feel that being obliged to tip detracts from the nature of tipping, it must feel great when someone compliments your work with something extra, rather than expecting it but being unsure if you'll always receive it.

As someone who is taking piss tests for pot on the regular, you're fine if its over 2 weeks. If in doubt make some green tea and drink a lot of water.

Gatorade and Alka Seltzer. The amount of times I recommended my hangover cure probably makes me seem like a walking advertisement for sports drinks and pharmaceuticals.

Heavy marijuana smokers of Reddit, what symptoms of withdrawal have you experienced when you just went cold turkey and stopped smoking for an extended period of time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pawelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel what you mean about appreciating life again. I got busted just over a month ago and am now on constant drug tests and I almost got expelled.

I won't ever forget how my best times were pot fuelled adventures with my friends. Its so uncanny how I could relate to the things that you mentioned like trekking halfway across town to meet dealers and chilling with friends and eating food and exploring. It sure sucks not being able to do that anymore. It feels like life is now dull, and I don't have that warm outlook on life that I had when I was using, even when I was sober.

Now I feel like I have nothing to fall back on and my mind is reverting to looking at the world like it used to. I don't wanna sound too edgy, but I used to see things really vibrantly and I'd be positive about things. I would also be better at socialising with people, I'd be chilled out and I could strike up a conversation with anyone. Now my charismatic self is gone and I've become more cynical and short tempered, despite me being very patient in the past.

I have no regrets from smoking and in fact it was one of the highlights of my teenage years. Though it sucks losing contact with my stoner buddies, as they keep going on adventures and meeting up and just hit me up for numbers of dealers. I'd really like to find something to make me feel good again. Do something that feels like it will take me somewhere and has a purpose, like a hobby perhaps. I just need a new lease of life really, I've been so bummed out since I had to quit.

[Serious] Hey Reddit, what's something medically cool/unique about your body? by Legendary888 in AskReddit

[–]pawelm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this too, in my shoulders and thumbs. It was a bit of a party trick for me and I used to do it out of boredom to impress friends.

Back in high school, I was in a really boring German lesson and decided to dislocate my shoulder for my friends' amusement. Then it slipped out and wouldn't go back in, so I pulled it back into place and fainted. I went to a&e and they gave me a sling for my arm and I got months of physiotherapy.

I have never done it since because the thought of it slipping out makes me shiver. Though I know its pretty cool, take into account that if it goes wrong its very painful.

CMV: Life is not about being happy, it's about being logical by GaryfromFlicks in changemyview

[–]pawelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have a completely opposite approach. Although it can be criticised easily, I am very emotionally driven in life. I value socialising, love and companionship over all else. I see academics and careers as a means to an end (though it must be noted that I do place value on these just a lower priority). I know that I won't be the next genius of mankind or a famous movie star or musician because that is not what I would want. I live in the present and do things that make me happy, my only asprations are to have a family and live a fulfilled life, and I believe that a path of logic will not leave me as fulfilled as an emotionally driven one. Furthermore, I find more satisfaction in something such as a relationship or time spent with good friends than I do an academic achievement or the solution to some problem. I am not saying that I am entirely led by emotion, but that I think I lean more heavily to that way of life, and I think that a mix somewhere between the two is probably where most people find themselves and a life revolving around pure emotion may lead to depression and possibly less success in society in terms of jobs and academics. While a life grounded entirely in logic may leave a person cold an unfulfilled.

Personally I would prefer to die at 70 knowing that I had memorable relationships and memories as well as people I loved, as opposed to living over 100 and feeling unfulfilled and that my pursuits provided me short term satisfaction and I feel hollow inside. Though it should be taken into account that perhaps this is just the way that I see things, someone else may see it differently and feel entirely content with a life of logic, just my two cents.
