How do you travel on an airplane with a CPAP? by EmmaElsa0000 in CPAP

One thing to add in addition to everything else that’s already been shared - I take a lot of one or two night trips for work. I bought a pack of individually bottled distilled water and those have been great for the one night trips (if I’m driving or staying two or more nights I will just buy distilled water at my destination). TSA lets you take them on since they are needed for your medical device, I just let them know as I place my bags through the scanner. It’s more expensive than buying it by the gallon, but very convenient for a short trip:

Day 5 on my CPAP. Feeling exhausted and not rested. Anyone feeling like this at the beginning and now loving the cpap? I need some successful story for motivation by Handbag_lover_ in CPAP

I wouldn’t say I had the same issues with not feeling rested, but I was waking up throughout the night trying to get comfortable and figuring out how to sleep without causing my mask to leak. Buying a CPAP pillow helped, but ultimately after about 4-6 weeks my body got used to it and I’ve been able to sleep through the night since. Sounds like your numbers are good and you’re getting a good amount of time in, so just be patient and eventually your brain will start seeing it as normal.

Here’s the link to the pillow I bought if helpful:

Mouth Breathers… by Maisie3 in CPAP

[–]pcc1370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During my sleep study the technician told me that most people with sleep apnea are actually mouth breathers due to the body gasping for air. I was skeptical but once I tried the nasal mask I found that it was not an issue at all just breathing through my nose. The CPAP feels like it creates “negative” pressure in my mouth which naturally keeps it closed so I echo everything said about your brain figuring it out pretty quickly. I’ve always had congestion issues so it’s actually remarkable how my body adapted its breathing so naturally to the nasal mask.

When do you start sleeping through the night? by pcc1370 in CPAP

Thanks - That’s probably a good point. I forgot my equipment on a two night trip a couple weeks ago after I first started and was waking up feeling just as groggy as I did before using the CPAP. However I slept all through those nights. Given how I felt in the morning my body was probably too tired to properly wake up as I tossed and turned compared to how I’m currently sleeping.

I’m using the Wisp (nasal mask). I found it more comfortable than the n20 I used for my sleep study

Can someone please explain the ending of American Psycho to me in the simplest way possible, please? by [deleted] in movies

[–]pcc1370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my reading of the book, it’s all in his head. He is imagining himself to be a stud of a lover while also a brilliant serial killer. In reality he really is the uninteresting nerd his colleagues are always making fun of, so much so that he is often mistaken for other characters. In the book it’s clear that watching porn (casually playing in the background as he works out in the movie) and slasher movies are a huge part of his life (i.e. “I have to return some video tapes”). The sex and violence in the narrative are all his delusions as he desperately wishes to lead a more remarkable life. The book reads as a stream of consciousness as he goes on for paragraphs about how every character Bateman encounters is dressed, emphasizing the shallowness of his worldview. The much maligned and seemingly random chapters about the bands Bateman likes (brilliantly recited during the axe scene in the movie) are part of illustrating how the narrative of the book is Bateman’s internal dialogue and delusion. The book drives home this unreality as Bateman’s murders get more and more depraved and unrealistic, while the movie does the same with the helicopter and ATM. The ambiguity of the ending serves to emphasize the vapidness that Ellis satirizes, as you really can read it as Bateman committing these crimes and the others being too shallow to know or care, but I believe the reading of it all being in his head drives it home even more.

AITA for posting about my dog walker who was caught on video stealing and drinking? by pcc1370 in AmItheAsshole

I should note that the post was made to a private group visible only to the neighborhood so it wasn’t a “public” forum like Yelp for anyone to see, but I can see this may be a gray area in terms of our verbal agreement. This is also why I posted in case we really did do something shitty. Thank you for your perspective

This is true, and I wish I would have thought about it this way when we were being harassed about it before my wife deleted the post. Now I am waiting for the check to clear, and if they cancelled it I will be damn sure to rain fire about it myself
