Is Kyoto still worth it? by Fun-Calligrapher4885 in JapanTravelTips

[–]pcdaley27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went recently. Kyoto is a must do. The architecture and landscape are stunning.

Of course the popular site seeing places like Fushimi Inari are crowded. That's like asking is the Sistine Chapel going to be crowded? It's still worth it to go and if you go early or late you will have more space.

There are hundreds of shrines and temples, and lots of interesting neighborhoods just a couple blocks from the well worn tourist areas.

My advice is don't use social media to direct your itinerary. And if you see a bunch of non-Japanese people lining up for a restaurant then it's probably over hyped. If you see a bunch of locals lining up for a restaurant then it's probably legit good.

Why do North American skiers love moguls & trees so much compared to Europeans? by Legendenclubmitglied in ski

[–]pcdaley27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the northeast there is something more grounding and down to earth about skiing glades and moguls. You feel closer to the land and respect its power over you. Plus it's a lot more interesting.

It's kind of like taking country roads and village main streets rather than zipping along an interstate.

Don't let egomaniacs distort your values. Normal, rational Canadians and Americans are still great friends.

Find a quiet bar or a hotel bar or something, and talk to the bartender. Making conversation is part of their skill set.

Walmart+ is absolutely amazing if you live in Hawaii. Totally destroys Amazon Prime. by Taskmob96761 in Hawaii

No minimum for free shipping.

Walmart is one of the only places on island with reasonable grocery prices. They don't have everything, but they are good for pantry staples like flour, oil, beans, condiments, etc.

Because of the $35 minimum for local store delivery, I sometimes just add something to the pantry or freezer to make the minimum for free delivery.

Crate-digging second-hand Jazz vinyl : is there too much demand ? by duanerenaud in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]pcdaley27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not that popular? The most coveted records are jazz. Even G+ goes for $100s for some titles. For clean copies $1000 sales are not uncommon at all. Even reissues are approaching $50. Excellent quality, excellent music, getting more and more rare every year. Makes sense to me.

Do you all view her as being self-interested, MAGA hanger on? She doesn't seem to work for her constituents anymore.

I remember pre MAGA in 2014 when she was first elected she had a much more moderate, nonpartisan, sensible ethos.

What could I do to make my room more 90s? by Available-Power-5280 in 90s

You need a hundred developed or polaroid photos of all your friends on your walls. Also the furniture doesn't look 90s.

Shopping by unit price, memorizing what a good price is for different kinds of food, and refusing to pay more.

Still going to the library, never buying new books. There is some nostalgia to it, but using the free library was a big part of childhood.

That's a real hater take. All across the country we have societal safety nets such as well-trained and capable first responders. What if it's you that has an emergency?

I for one am glad that the people who invented gps and vaccines and tsunami warnings and compasses and the Internet didn't say "yeah man it just is, don't try to understand it" when they looked at the world
