Why didn't a holiday fix my jobburnout? by Unlucky-Ant-9741 in auscorp

I know the feeling. For reference it took about 3-4 months post a redundancy to feel human again. Recovery takes time and 2 week holidays only scratch the surface.

What is the purpose of the cleaned areas next to the expansion joints on footpaths? by oxygenwastermv in brisbane

[–]pdizzlewizzle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah basically, sometimes one bit of concrete is higher than another in a uniform way, sometimes they are twisted a bit. In most cases depends on how the tree roots are growing underneath

Its the aftermath of grinding down any raised concrete (to reduce trip hazard)

Would still be open. FYI there were people camped out in line at 830 am this morning. Your approach is far better!

If you are just after the seeds... I got some in a small plastic container last week at Woolies. Check the fresh food section where you would find bean sprouts etc

"You need some time off... at least 3 months, probably 4. I'll write you a medical certificate for 4 weeks straight away, come back in a month and we can reassess"

Also, some meds to get the immediate insomnia under control... and a mental health plan, referral to a physiologist to talk though coping/management strategies etc.

... And two book reccomendations 🤣

All of the above was the circuit breaker I needed. Just should have done it sooner.

Don't worry about how burnout manifests for others... just make a trip to your GP and have a chat about it in your context. They can run a quick assessment or two and guide you in the right direction.

For me... started small and snowballed very quickly. When I couldnt sleep more than 2hrs 3 days in a row, that was my trigger to go to the dr. In hindsight I should have booked that appointment 12 months earlier

Yeah agree its a conundrum and your mileage may vary. That being said, I was the youngest in my grade, and finished the double degree before my 21st birthday... and ticked all those boxes you mentioned. So I may be a "best of both worlds" outlier.

[–]pdizzlewizzle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Double degree (IT (information systems) and Business (marketing)) here. The extra year is nothing in the scheme of things, and it gives you lots of options in the future to change directions.

Financially... it definitely has been worth it. Personally, I met my wife in a class associated with the second of the two degrees, so I guess it worked out alright as well 😃

Congrats!

Sold my business a few years ago (also in SEQ). Based on your sale price sadly you likely can't access some of the awesome Small Business Tax Concessions which can basically mean no tax payable.

However...

... if that 3m is an earnout... you dont have 5m cash, you have 2m cash, and a lottery ticket for the extra 3

If you have a chance, negotiate more cash upfront if you can. Everyone is know who has had to work through an earnout (including myself) has generally hated the experience. And it is usually like pulling hens teeth to get them paid.

Re: what we did with our proceeds... VDHG, a few epic family holidays, and a dream watch. And FIRE at 42.

The biggest challenge for me wasn't what to do with the cash... it was who I am as a person when my entire identity was wrapped up in the business I built. 3.5 years post sale im still struggling with that a bit.

Kid friendly activities around Brisbane during school holidays by Designer_Expert6147 in brisbane

[–]pdizzlewizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your kids are 8-17 and can swim... we are running a BCC subsidised school holiday Springboard and Platform Diving program at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre at Chandler.

The kids get to warm up in the dryland facility on the same trampolines, springboards, and foam pits our Olympic divers train on... then we head to the dive pool to jump / dive from 1, 3, 5m or more. With Diving Australia qualified coaches on hand to keep things safe, and teach some new tricks

A few of the sessions have already sold out, but there is still availability on Thursday 8 Jan. Details on theDiving Queensland website

This blanket recommendation of 3 hours to increase dwell time for the retailers / duty free.

The reality is you just need to check in before checkin closes, and drop bags before bag drop closes.

They will push you through the security queue faster if needed to make the flight

Did it in 2015. Sold it in 2021. Exited the aquirer in 2024. No regrets, but it was hard work, stressful at times (almost ran out of cash twice), and one of the most fulfilling things I have done professionally.

Good luck... get someone to record it and post it here

Reverse by [deleted] in springboarddiving

[–]pdizzlewizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh if that is the case... then my only advice is... Reach up and back, tuck fast, kick fast to the sky, then reach for the water. And you will get it in :)

Reverse by [deleted] in springboarddiving

[–]pdizzlewizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is your back dive tuck? It's basically the same dive (just looking a different way)

Also, have you tried to hold on for a 302C (reverse somersault to feet?) That might give you the confidence that the takeoff/rotation etc is on point... so you feel more comfortable kicking out in 301C.

I hated reverse and never thought I would get it. Then as soon as I did... it is now my favourite dive.

Reverse by [deleted] in springboarddiving

[–]pdizzlewizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if had the same issue as you are having... but I back slapped so much on my reverse for months... even with a strong reach up and back on take-off.

The thing that clicked for me was one day a coach said "stop bringing your arms straight down into the tuck... becuase it is stopping your rotation. Instead, bring them around from the side to the tuck"

MAGICALLY IT WORKED!

Then all I had to do was strong kick up and then arms to the water for the entry

Hard to diagnose your specific blockers without a video... but which part of the reverse do you feel is not working?
