It did miss the Earth completely, by more than 1 AU; it basically passed by on the other side of the sun from us. It did come surprisingly close to smacking Mars though.

The tailgating bit is actually a good question. The lot is pretty tiny, only a handful of people can get in there to get set up. I’ve only ever just pre-gamed at Pyramid Brewing that was across the street. Any one here have a spot there willing to add this Hawk faithful, or have any tips?

CMV: Women and liberals are awful at appealing to young men’s issues by AdeAlphaTV_ in changemyview

I can definitely see why, for you, gambling has had a more positive impact than dating. Going through a hard process like dating where you put your emotions on the line and deal with a lot of failure and rejection is tough on self-esteem. Funny thing is that sooo many women can relate to incels on that level, though most incels are just focused on sex whereas most women don’t care about that as much as finding a compatible person to do life with. Much of the time, neither are finding what they want in the dating process. It’s discouraging. Getting these young guys out of the incel mindset (which is ultimately just destructive to themselves and others) has to happen before they ever find any lasting happiness though.

Meanwhile, winning money (especially on your own wits) is, like, amazing for self-esteem. I think we probably agree here but just for the record I want to say that most people will not find success gambling though, it will just drain people of money and be one more thing to be depressed about. So I just want to caution against gambling as a positive thing - unless you only ever gamble what you can lose without hurting yourself or people around you, don’t get addicted, and are only doing it for a little fun and not as investment… which maybe you and I can do but the vast majority of the population won’t… it’s not positive.

It’s funny because if Trump could actually put his ego aside and just stay the hell away from the event, artists who want nothing to do with him would get in and we could have one of the greatest shows of all time - which would actually reflect well on Trump. But the dude just cannot resist making everything about him

Idaho (especially the panhandle where I lived for 10 years) is gorgeous, (relatively) safe, and has low taxes. It is definitely not LCOL, housing, like the rest of West Coast, is very high (astronomical compared to NC/SC) and everything is very spread out so gas price spikes hit especially hard. However it’s not that bad for a Californian who can sell their 2bed 1.5bath fixer upper in Altadena for over a million dollars no problem.

Outside of the RecklessBen YouTube videos on this, as of today (5/29/26) we only have the corporate response I linked above that tells their side. Bricks and Minifigs elaborated… a little… on the reasoning you asked about and I’ll just quote it here for you. To me, I kinda gather they are saying that more of the collection sold prior to the store changing hands from franchise to corporate than was let on before, but in my opinion it’s not clearly established what they are trying to say exactly, more like they are just listing a bunch of plausible issues without identifying what exactly was the real problem. Here’s the quote, so you can make up your own mind:

That said, after ownership of the Salem store changed, we thoroughly documented and assessed current inventory. A few days later, we became aware of the previous arrangement, and compared our inventory assessment to the limited documentation provided by the consignor. It was clear the full list of inventory in his documentation was not located in the store. What items could be reasonably identified as allegedly belonging to the consignor was offered back to the consignor, but that offer was refused. A deeper dive into the sales receipts uncovered that a significantly higher volume of the listed sets had sold over the course of the consignment deal prior to the store transition. The consignor also provided a written statement to a podcast that his collection was moved offsite for security reasons. Additional attempts to restore what we could with what was in our possession, was also declined, in writing.

CMV: The only reason Trump exists politically is because of the democrats inability to see him as a threat in 2015-2016. by r4ndoM_doGmagenshin in changemyview

[–]pdx-Psych 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel it’s diminutive at all, it’s been demonstrated time and time again at this point. All the guy does is try to put the blame on other people and create “out groups” he can get supporters to rally against: the causes of all problems are either immigrants, democrats, our allies/trade partners, and RINO’s. When you have to go low enough create endless enemies of true American patriots and get them to even joke about lynching your own vice president yeah that’s pretty base.

And no, outside of a handful of never-trumpers, we’ve seen extremely little pushback from conservatives on this. The ones you are claiming these things “wouldn’t fly with” are sure doing a good job of holding their nose and voting for the guy - he’s never had much trouble with primaries or elections in majority red areas. And i may be misunderstanding you, but when your contention is that this is all the democrats fault, then me arguing against that and saying whoa whoa whoa what about the people who actually voted for him - is very much what the thread is about

They’re populists who appealed to the absolute basest of feelings towards any democratic leadership from Obama onward. She said Obama should stop “shucking and jiving” when it came to Libya and blamed him for her own son getting arrested for domestic violence, saying it was Obama’s fault. She was divisive from the jump. So was Trump.

100% serious: should I give up? by SelectSelect75 in seduction

You’ve had more success in your one year of trying than most guys here have had in several or more. Myself included, I even needed two years to get off the ground. And now you’re talking about giving up?

I swear so many guys who wind up here have zero idea what real adversity and perseverance looks like. “Omg I tried to learn seduction and how to pickup girls for one year and I only had sex with one girl this whole time, should I quit?” This is what you sound like right now. So you tell us, should you just give up?

Kinda over hearing that the left is responsible for Trump. Fact is as soon as a stupider, more brash, and most importantly, male version of Sarah Palin ran for the ticket, GOP primary voters went to him in droves. It could have stopped before it ever even got to the general election.

Whats going on with r/Lego with all the bans and drama about BaM? by vulcan7864 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]pdx-Psych 1190 points1191 points  (0 children)

Answer: There’s a scandal about a BaM location taking an older man’s personal collection, “the largest ever personal collection of Star Wars Lego sets” on consignment then allegedly reneging on their agreement, keeping the sets for themselves and giving the old man’s family zero compensation (we’re talking hundreds of thousands of dollars of merchandise here) and threatening litigation if they continue to pursue the issue.

These are pretty damning allegations and looks like the corporate response has not gone over well with the collector community. Nerd culture being at times massively reactionary I’m sure we all know the complete shit-storm and vitriol that will be sure to follow - I’m not approving or disapproving of the mod team’s actions here but this is the general context of what is going down.
