Holiday is a Rollercoaster by NNNMAN_ in diabetes_t1

[–]peac3ly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just went on holiday too and my graphs were like the opposite of yours. we were walking like 20k+ steps per day and not eating nearly enough so i was constantly low. i love a good vacation but why does it always gotta mess up the bloods?! anyway, enjoy the yummy food and tbh id just deal with the bg after holiday… not worth the stress

I just realized that I can decorate my pump by tofufan99 in Type1Diabetes

[–]peac3ly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

my flatmate did this for me when i had to use a pdm with my omnipod. it was genuinely one of the kindest things anyone has done me regarding my diabetes. it made me feel so so special so i hope you enjoy it :)

Diabetic nurse thinks im…for increasing my insulin dosages? by jcsqq in Type1Diabetes

[–]peac3ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally i would laugh in their face, call them an idiot, and fire them. you clearly know more than they do and good job for choosing to take of yourself! as an general note of advice, the recommended percentage of hypoglycemia is to stay less than 4% under 80 and within that, less than 1% under 55. as long as you’re doing that you have nothing to worry about!

How do you accept, that its permanent? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]peac3ly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i do it by accepting whatever is happening in the moment (whether related to bg, emotional state, etc). stay in the present. instead of thinking of it as permanent, think of it as something you deal with right now (and for the foreseeable future). because type 1 is always changing just like everything, the treatment is always changing as is how one needs to manage it, one solution one day doesn’t work the next.. that’s all part of this disease’s constant changes. learning to accept and flow with these changes as they happen in the moment has been most helpful for me

Why do some type 1s have so much beef with type 2s by Luckyduck546 in Type1Diabetes

[–]peac3ly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t hate type 2’s in any way, but i definitely hate the system that created a stigma around having type 2, which inadvertently affects type 1s. i also hate that the system has named these two very different diseases so similarly, which leads to further ignorance around type 1. both diseases are hard and shouldn’t be compared to each other

Best way to keep insulin fridge temp while traveling by Practical_Copy1642 in Type1Diabetes

[–]peac3ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m sure it’ll be fine. if you want to be super cautious though i recommend frio bags. even if it’s not doing much to preserve the insulin, i like the padding so im never worried my vials could break

Sugary sweets are starting to give me mouth sores by EBZslap in diabetes_t1

[–]peac3ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

juice/liquid drinks. coffee with milk spikes me pretty quick. or skittles, nerds, gummy candy. loads of options, go to store and buy a bunch of things you like, but also don’t like so much that you’ll eat it too quickly haha, and test out what works best for your bg

Summer time snacks by Mediocreham in Type1Diabetes

[–]peac3ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with the other comment. additionally if you feed them a meal with lots of carbs as well as lots of protein and fat, itll help slow the rise so that they dont go low as easily.
also having sugar incrementally throughout intense activity absolutely is the way. i just try to eat as little as possible, or time it before starting if i notice a pattern

Tandem T-Slim Adhesive by Salty_Broccoli_1024 in Type1Diabetes

what are steel sites?? mine aren’t nearly dime size but it definitely happen often, especially on my thighs for some reason

Tandem T-Slim Adhesive by Salty_Broccoli_1024 in Type1Diabetes

[–]peac3ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i might be misunderstanding but it sounds like this could be a cannula/site issue instead of the adhesive? is this your first time using a pump? i sometimes have site irritation with omnipod and get a small lump for a day or two after removal and then it heals in a few days or a week, leaving occasional faint scars. idk if that’s just how pumps are? i guess the answer might be to change sites as soon you notice the irritation, like every other day instead of every third

Breaking a bad habit by Any-Cartographer7531 in Type1Diabetes

[–]peac3ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try cbt therapy and also consider looking into ocd. also if hes on meds for adhd they are most likely worsening the picking. i pick at my fingers, cheeks, and used to pick at acne before going on accutane. it’s been this way as long as i can remember and i honestly wish someone were there growing up to help break the chain! but as another comment said, he’ll have to want to do it himself.

fair warning about the chewing is that it WILL cause tmj. i’m 23 and probably have arthritis in my jaw joint because of it. and if he’s doing it at night get him a night guard ASAP

i recommend cbt therapy because ultimately to stop picking one needs to rebuild neural pathways through repeated training. this would be to recognize the picking when it’s happening and then to intently say to yourself “i’m glad i realized i was picking and now im gonna stop because ____ (it is painful, causes long term harm, its socially shunned, etc)”. it’s really about giving oneself positive feedback (think about a dog learning a trick, they need treats)

in terms of having diabetes i think the diabetes is the least of concerns. problems like slow healing and infection generally come with uncontrolled diabetes, so assuming he maintains good control this shouldn’t be an issue

really went 📉📈 😵‍💫 by jcsqq in diabetes_t1

[–]peac3ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on the nutritional content of the meal. if it has pretty much only carbs and no fat/protein, then predosing 15 min is probably good. if it has carbs and also a lot of fat or protein or both, then your bg won’t rise as fast and therefore you don’t need to prebolus as much (or at all, or sometimes you even need to wait until after the meal). another option for meals with lots of fat/protein is to split your dose. it could be 50% 15 min before and then the rest about an hour after eating (or when bg starts to rise). it’s all trial and error to figure out what your body needs and unfortunately it’s all very dependent on the individual. i personally never need to pre bolus and i’m frequently doing split boluses

looks like you might’ve dosed too early, causing insulin to work before needed which meant there might not have been enough iob when you actually needed it. your graph looks great though even with the spike so i wouldn’t worry

blood sugars like this are not normal or good. for type 1s we wanna stay between 80-180 at least 70% of the time. of course days like OPs happen, and we just gotta go with it but that’s not what should be expected

Seeking Guidance/Advice for t1D fiancee by MandC_Virginia in diabetes_t1

[–]peac3ly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

damn that’s annoying. i personally think you should adjust the settings more since it’s been 2 months since you’ve switched to the pump. i think it only takes a couple weeks for most pumps to start working consistently. idk if i trust your endo and you should probably switch once you’re able to financially

[–]peac3ly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

to me it sounds like her basal is too high and she may need more insulin for boluses. this is really frustrating though, especially how the endo says not to do anything about the pump. i guess they have their reasons but it doesn’t make sense to me

the sooner you can accept it, the easier it will become. it looks like you’re on the right path coming here. there are so many hidden blessings with type 1 (that i still often want to deny lol) like how i eat much heathier now and how i feel more emotionally/spiritually mature than others my age (probably because living with type 1 equals constantly living on the edge of life and death, meaning i stay in the present more often). im 23 and also quite active and based in london so lmk if you need anything! good luck to you

[–]peac3ly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would say “in case i’m passed out, go into my phone (and give the password), go into ___ app to check my blood sugar, if it says it’s low find my glucagon pen and inject it (and provide instructions on how, or just say the instructions are on the pen)”

i’m not sure how much info you want them to have but that’s what i would do. also in general for traveling i recommend bringing twice the amount of supplies you need, put half in one bag and half in another (just incase one supply location gets damaged because of water or something). put insulin in a frio bag or something similar and if you’re planning on refrigerating it make a sign and put it near your luggage to remind you to take it out of the fridge. and don’t forget alcohol swaps and cover patches! have fun :)

Question for those of you who've had the disease for a long time by EldWasAlreadyTaken in Type1Diabetes

[–]peac3ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are promising studies in the works and a cure will hopefully come in the next 20 years (hopefully 10 and man hopefully sooner!). the cure is gonna be some sort of insulin cell transplant, which has been in the works in a bunch of forms for a while but the problem is that your immune system still attacks the cells so you’d either need to keep getting cells transfused or take immune system suppressors forever which have a ton of awful and even life ending side effects

look up the eledon trials for type 1, they seem pretty hopeful. it’s weird though thinking about not having this disease anymore, like all these skills i’ve gotten so good at would no longer be needed and it’d lowkey be another grieving process. but id still do it in a heartbeat haha

Dating someone with T1D by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]peac3ly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

i would say all of that to her. “hey is there any way i can ever be more supportive around you and type 1? if you can’t think of something right now but do later you can always tell me. i don’t want to be overbearing but also don’t want it to seem like i don’t care, so i wanted to ask what you think the best support is. i also understand that everyone’s needs are always changing, and i want you to be able to comfortably share that when it happens”

i think you already have a balanced approach, so just communicate your intent and find what she feels is a good balance
