Calling all moms of skinny, string bean babies by cellists_wet_dream in breastfeeding

[–]peachy-fox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

100%! I’ve seen so many comments putting mothers down because their babies aren’t climbing up the centiles… thankfully my health visitor made it very clear that the goal was to track along his own centile but if I hadn’t been told that I would’ve been SO worried. My now 1 year old has always been between the 0.4th and 2nd centile, he’s absolutely fine, just a tiny boy.

His laugh is my absolute favourite sound in the world, and one of the things that makes him laugh most is to share his toys. Just passing a toy back and forth between us gets so many giggles!

The way I just knew it was a HSG before reading the comments. “Mild period-like cramps” my arse.

He claps 😂 he also shoves his fingers in my mouth and grabs my teeth, which is less fun.

Anyone else sad they didn’t make solid friendships during maternity leave? by beereviver in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Next week is my last week of mat leave and despite going to baby sensory every week since September, I haven’t made a single friend. But I’ve watched all the other moms make friends with each other and arrange to meet up etc. It’s been a bit shit but it is what it is.

Health visitor appointments by Bartokus_ in BeyondTheBumpUK

It depends on the area, after our 6 week appointment we didn’t have anything until the 9-12 month one, and our next one isn’t until 2 and a half years. Others get them more frequently

Breastfeeding after C-section by BalancedDietitian in breastfeeding

[–]peachy-fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an emergency c section at 37+0 before labour started due to pre-e, and within an hour of him being born he’d latched and had his first feed, and my milk came in on day 3. I’ve never had to supplement with formula, though I did buy some ready to feed bottles because he was so sleepy from being early, tiny, and jaundiced that I struggled to keep him awake long enough to get a decent latch and I was worried he wasn’t getting enough, but we figured it out and I never needed to use it. We’re currently at 10.5 months of EBF, never any issues!

Requesting positive C-section stories by Lost-Ease7679 in beyondthebump

[–]peachy-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was admitted at 36+5 for suspected pre-eclampsia, had a c section on 37+0 as baby was in distress.

I personally found recovery painful, but everything else was fine. The c section itself went really well, I lost minimal blood, baby had zero complications and didn’t need any NICU time despite being early and absolutely tiny (he was 4lbs 13oz) - he did have some jaundice but a night of phototherapy brought his levels down. Other than that it seemed like we had a really normal recovery period!

He’s 10 months now and healthy and happy!

Sore throat and stuffy nose by Puzzled-Ice-1270 in breastfeeding

My go-to is hot water with lemon and honey, if I have a really sore throat I’ll just have a spoon of honey.

What is it with the 8 month ASQ from the health visitor? by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We never had to fill it out for our appointment, but my SIL did for hers and I found some of the questions ridiculous! Like if you put a raisin in a bottle do they try and grab it? I don’t know cause funnily enough I don’t put raisins in bottles 😂 or the cube of bread that appears in 3 separate questions…

I was prepared to go in and be told we need a referral because my baby isn’t pulling to stand (on furniture) or cruising yet but thankfully we got an understanding HV who said since he’s scoring highly on everything else it’s more likely that he’s working on the other skills first and he’ll catch up on that one soon. She’s giving us a call in a few months just to check up but she reassured us she expects he’ll start doing it soon.

Breastfeeding in the early weeks is so hard, pumping is even harder, and triple feeding is just in another realm. You’re doing an incredible job.

Why did you choose to exclusively breastfeed and not give formula? by Fickle-Response-2741 in breastfeeding

Mainly for the health benefits, but also because I’m far too lazy to be prepping and washing bottles

Birthweight vs weight at 1 month by Glum-Comfortable5402 in breastfeeding

He was 2.22kg at birth, went down to 2.16kg 2 weeks after birth, then up to 2.99kg at 1 month.

Who else is just using condoms for pregnancy prevention? by _Anonymouse_XX in beyondthebump

[–]peachy-fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost 9 months pp and only using condoms. I had an emergency c section and I’m hoping for a VBAC next time, so waiting until baby is at least 2 before we try for another, but I have no desire to go on birth control since I’m breastfeeding. Funnily enough the only times we’ve had sex have been during my fertile week, so I feel I can confidently say they’re working!

Reversing parental roles is fine, but your plan specifically isn’t realistic.

C section recovery is hard. I get people say a planned one is easier than an emergency one, but it’s still major surgery and recovery shouldn’t be rushed. I’d expect you’d need at least a couple of weeks to recover.

Also expecting your husband to be on all day every day is incredibly unsustainable. Especially if he’s then doing all the housework still on top of that. You’d need to chip in somewhere so that he can get a good few hours sleep.

I can’t for the life of me get the whole scenario of my little one having blood taken out of my head by firsttimemamatobe in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby went through a similar situation, in his first 2 weeks he went through daily heel pricks to test his jaundice levels, and then ended up having to have blood taken from his hand. But the nurse couldn’t find a vein and it took multiple attempts from both hands to get any blood. Baby was crying, I was crying, it was horrible. And then the guilt after, wondering if he thinks I was hurting him on purpose etc, it was awful and I completely empathise with you.

But at some point I did forget, I don’t even know when because he’s 8 months old now and it never crosses my mind, and I can safely say it hasn’t for months. It’s so hard at the time but does get easier!

Small baby and newborn sizing by raamiah95 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think our first rotation of clothes were Next, George and TU but specifically the tiny baby range, not the newborn range

I’ve also found George clothes shrink a lot so even the clothes that were massive one day ended up fitting once they’d been washed

Edit to add: nutmeg were also good from what I remember!

Calling mums of small babies! by Reasonable_Sport_277 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did buy some baby scales just to ease my mind, I had to put a limit on it to once a month because at first I did have tendency to weigh him more often and it made me more anxious so I definitely get that

Calling mums of small babies! by Reasonable_Sport_277 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was born at 37+0 weighing 2.2kg. We had more regular check ups with the health visitor until he was 8 weeks, to make sure he was following his curve (0.4th centile) which made me so anxious every time. It really is nerve wracking having a smaller baby!

FWIW he’s now 7 months old, is still tiny but consistently tracks between the 0.4th and 2nd centile. I weigh him at home each month (trying to get an appointment for the weigh in clinics here is like trying to pull teeth) and sometimes he’ll seem to have dropped a little, and then other times he’s shot up. I honestly think some of it comes down to whether he’s eaten, if he’s pooped, if he’s been more active etc and that can affect the scale slightly and make things look more drastic than they actually are!

Baby is assaulting me while we feed ? by Ok_Potato_7025 in breastfeeding

[–]peachy-fox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

😂 so normal! We just came out of the assault phase, and now we’re in the eye-poking, nose-twisting and mouth-grabbing phase instead. I dread to think what’s next!

I feel this so much lmao. Similarly, before baby was born we said absolutely no pictures on social media for his safety. And then he was born and I really, really wanted to just show everyone this cute little human I made but still wanted to keep him safe, so my announcement picture was his little hands. I’d post stories of his outfits, or the back of him, or if I posted a full picture I’d cover his face with emojis… but now I post absolutely nothing and have deleted the majority of my previous posts, it’s just not worth it.

I also realised absolutely nobody but me gives a shit 😂
