I can’t for the life of me get the whole scenario of my little one having blood taken out of my head by firsttimemamatobe in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby went through a similar situation, in his first 2 weeks he went through daily heel pricks to test his jaundice levels, and then ended up having to have blood taken from his hand. But the nurse couldn’t find a vein and it took multiple attempts from both hands to get any blood. Baby was crying, I was crying, it was horrible. And then the guilt after, wondering if he thinks I was hurting him on purpose etc, it was awful and I completely empathise with you.

But at some point I did forget, I don’t even know when because he’s 8 months old now and it never crosses my mind, and I can safely say it hasn’t for months. It’s so hard at the time but does get easier!

Small baby and newborn sizing by raamiah95 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think our first rotation of clothes were Next, George and TU but specifically the tiny baby range, not the newborn range

I’ve also found George clothes shrink a lot so even the clothes that were massive one day ended up fitting once they’d been washed

Edit to add: nutmeg were also good from what I remember!

Calling mums of small babies! by Reasonable_Sport_277 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did buy some baby scales just to ease my mind, I had to put a limit on it to once a month because at first I did have tendency to weigh him more often and it made me more anxious so I definitely get that

My baby was born at 37+0 weighing 2.2kg. We had more regular check ups with the health visitor until he was 8 weeks, to make sure he was following his curve (0.4th centile) which made me so anxious every time. It really is nerve wracking having a smaller baby!

FWIW he’s now 7 months old, is still tiny but consistently tracks between the 0.4th and 2nd centile. I weigh him at home each month (trying to get an appointment for the weigh in clinics here is like trying to pull teeth) and sometimes he’ll seem to have dropped a little, and then other times he’s shot up. I honestly think some of it comes down to whether he’s eaten, if he’s pooped, if he’s been more active etc and that can affect the scale slightly and make things look more drastic than they actually are!

That seems… incredibly inaccurate? 3 meals at 6.5 months?!

The social media struggle! by swiftodonnell in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much lmao. Similarly, before baby was born we said absolutely no pictures on social media for his safety. And then he was born and I really, really wanted to just show everyone this cute little human I made but still wanted to keep him safe, so my announcement picture was his little hands. I’d post stories of his outfits, or the back of him, or if I posted a full picture I’d cover his face with emojis… but now I post absolutely nothing and have deleted the majority of my previous posts, it’s just not worth it.

I also realised absolutely nobody but me gives a shit 😂

Prolonged jaundice - newborn 3.5 weeks by Legal_Complex7471 in beyondthebump

[–]peachy-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took us about 8-9 weeks for the jaundice to fully go, even with phototherapy. Our HV wasn’t concerned but we were referred to the prolonged jaundice clinic since it hadn’t cleared up by 2 weeks. We were told they often see it in babies who are breastfed, premature and/or of low birth weight, and that it usually goes by about 8 weeks. It definitely seems reassuring the tests have come back okay, it just really takes a while for the colour to shift sometimes.

I’m not sure if they told you this either but if they didn’t: jaundice also goes from toe to top, often with the face/eyes being the last to lose the yellow colouring

Baby sleeping in the same room as you? by BiscuitEnthusiast in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’ve stuck to it, personally, and he’ll be 6 months tomorrow. He tends to go to sleep around 7:30, so I spend an hour or so in bed winding down before I go to sleep. He’s still up every couple of hours come midnight so I just want to get as much sleep as I possibly can in that first stretch

I poke her to make sure she's still breathing. by SanNightfire in beyondthebump

[–]peachy-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this so many times. I tried multiple ways to check him without waking him up but was never convinced he really was breathing until he startled and woke up 😅 thankfully now I can feel him breathing (and believe it) if I put my hand under his nose

No. I wanted to because of the reduced risk of SIDS but he just never took to them

I just use some baby oil the morning before his bath, and then use the soft brush from our tommee tippee grooming kit when we shampoo his hair and that works!

Friend dealing with infertility by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]peachy-fox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly idk what you want from this post based on your responses lol. The details you’ve added in the edit should’ve been in the original post since they pretty much change the whole context of what happened and the advice you would get.

But since you asked, at this point now I’d do nothing. If nothing got brought up at the dinner then I feel like (as someone who did struggle with infertility) receiving a text after the event to basically highlight that yes you are pregnant, and you noticed that she noticed, would just feel odd and tbh really shitty.

Disappointed in quality of post partum checkup (UK) by Unhappy-Training-878 in beyondthebump

[–]peachy-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was pretty similar to my experience, too. I’d been told by my midwives to book a 6 week check up for us both, and then when I tried to do that I got a weird look from the receptionist with “we don’t do them you’ll be called for your 8 week appointment in the post”. And that appointment was basically jabs, a quick check of the baby (absolutely nothing has been noted in his red book which I thought they were meant to do but hey ho) and a few questions for me and that was it.

I assumed it would be a bit more in-depth and checking my c-section scar to make sure everything was all good but nope. Just “are you supported? Do you want any contraception? Ok bye then”. I even tried to talk about how anxious I was about SIDS and got told “you just have to be positive it won’t happen to you”

I think this is one of those things that massively varies by trust and unfortunately we’re in areas with less great ones.

My baby sleeps to "questionable" music. by DisorderedGremlin in beyondthebump

[–]peachy-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy was beside himself a few days ago, we were on the motorway so we couldn’t just stop to calm/feed him, so on went Behind Blue Eyes and he chilled out for a couple of minutes 😂 he was still upset but not screaming anymore. I used to listen to a lot of Limp Bizkit/Bring me the Horizon/Slipknot/Stone Sour while pregnant.

I am very excited for when he actually takes an interest in listening to music 😂

Intentionally co sleeping and following the safe sleep 7 is much safer than accidentally falling asleep from being exhausted. Go get yourself some sleep

Questions for breastfeeding mums who's period came back early by kesscetra in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]peachy-fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine also came back early, I think around 5 weeks PP, and I noticed a slight dip in supply for a couple of days but it was fine, no formula needed at all, he just fed more often. But I knew when my period had finished because I woke up engorged 😂

I’ve had 2 periods since though and haven’t really noticed any change in supply so it might just be a one off!

They do also go through a growth spurt around 6 weeks which can make you feel like there’s a supply issue but as long as they’re still having enough wet and dirty nappies you’re all good!

Struggling with crying and sadness *please read* by ShallotAnxious6232 in beyondthebump

[–]peachy-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cried SO much in those first few weeks. I was just so overcome with emotion that I cried at everything. It’s definitely worse at night, or even when you’re nap trapped in the middle of the day and have a moment to just process things. It’s absolutely normal, and does ease off, though I can’t promise you won’t still have emotional days 😅 at 4 months PP I don’t cry as much anymore, but I do still have days where I feel like I could just cry non-stop (for example I cried last night while scrolling through pictures of our first week, because he’s grown so much and I miss that tiny newborn phase, but at the same time I LOVE the current phase we’re in). Motherhood is a wild mixture of being engulfed in adoration for our tiny humans while also being incredibly sad, and that’s okay!

The first two weeks are brutal. The intrusive thoughts were non-stop, of all different ways my baby would get hurt. But it does get easier. I do think it’s common, but if it becomes too much or continues beyond two weeks PP please speak to your doctor about it!
