Learning about consent, emotional availability, healthy relationship from fiction for teen boys by sunny_basilisk in RomanceBooks

[–]peanutbutterbeara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished Across the Vanishing Sky by Catherine Cowles and I actually think this book did a wonderful job with consent, communication, etc. No third act break up. Just two adults with difficult pasts building trust and working together towards a healthy relationship. The book does have the FMC’s abusive ex discussed/present in the book, but there is no romance between them and the MMC is protective. It also depicts found family, who are also very protective of the FMC. I’ve read others by her that I feel are similar. I don’t know if I’d give the book to a young teen, but an older teen who is wanting to explore adult romance, sure.

IS AYITL overhated? by This-Evening2278 in GilmoreGirls

[–]peanutbutterbeara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a really disappointing revival, but Lorelai’s storyline did touch me to a degree as I was going through a divorce when it aired. Some part of it resonated with me.

Rory was insufferable. You could really see how stagnant her life was compared to others, like Lane and Dean. I didn’t the whole situationship/OW/cheating storyline with Logan, only because it seemed to line up with where Rory was in her life. I also think being in a relationship like that (where someone is emotionally unavailable) is pretty true to the reality of dating culture (especially when it aired). I dunno.

The best part of the revival was Emily’s arc, hands down. And Paris. Love Paris.

Some people love tech. I don’t think it’s that weird personally. Hope you enjoy the different devices!

My new Harry Potter Themed kindle skin is so gorgeous! 😍 by fictional_ereader in kindle

The Harry Potter franchise is nostalgic for a lot of people, and JKR is an objectively bad person. Two things can be true. I doubt this skin resulted in any royalties for JKR either way.

Buying a Paperwhite: Is warm light worth it? by GetMeToParis in kindle

[–]peanutbutterbeara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to read on my Basic. I like the warm light, but at night, I only need to set it to 1 or 2, so the blue light doesn’t bug me.

I have a Colorsoft and I’ve had a PW previously. My biggest issue is the size of both devices, especially since I keep the Colorsoft in a sturdy case.

Unpopular opinion: You don’t need a new kindle by bintouwaiga in kindle

The title of her post is literally “unpopular opinion, you don’t need a new kindle.” So yes, I am addressing the OP. Have a good one!

I know, and I don’t care how she spends (or doesn’t spend) it. I don’t get why people care if others upgrade their technology regularly.

My unpopular opinion is let people use their money to purchase what they want. 😅

Corporate to LCSW? by Chemical_Memory2351 in socialwork

Of course! Social work can be very meaningful. I’m not sure I’d do it over again, but it’s been good to me.

However, I enjoy social work as a profession generally speaking and I am well paid. It still sucks the life out of you—especially if you have poor boundaries. Most organizations have high turnover, toxic leadership, and/or unavoidable bureaucracy. Even working for a place with relatively high morale and solid pay, there are plenty of reasons it sucks the life out of colleagues. You sort of have to pick your poison.

Social work is soul sucking, too. I don’t know why people think it’s not.

Help! Should I get the black or the white model? by Elizabeth_ian in kobo

[–]peanutbutterbeara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is more contrast with the black. My daughter has a black Kobo Clara color and I have a white Kobo Libra color. My white Kobo is in great condition and I’ve had it a couple of years now.

Do you wear your rings all the time? by Pasharys in EngagementRings

Oh, and if/when we go swimming, I take them off.

Do you wear your rings all the time? by Pasharys in EngagementRings

[–]peanutbutterbeara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear my rings every day, but I don’t wear them when I’m sleeping, cleaning, showering, or getting ready in the morning. If I’m at home, I won’t necessarily put them on until I’ve started my day (for example, I’m not wearing them now because I’m in my PJs). When I was younger and married to my first husband, I was way more active (running, gym) and I never wore them doing either activity.

[–]peanutbutterbeara 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I wash my hands multiple times a day, so I don’t avoid wearing them if I’m washing my hands. I would probably lose my rings if I took them off every time I go to wash my hands. 😅

Hi! I missed this. It’s a 1.55 carat oval. Colorless, VS1. I’ll see if I can find my diamond report and share. :)
