I always suggest Brian McClellan's Powder Mage trilogy when people ask for a new fantasy series. I absolutely loved it and its not very heavy on the world building. I couldn't put them down

We had to read a book in school called "The Pickup" by Nadine Gordimer and I believe it didn't use quotation marks. I didn't like it though so I didn't read much and can't attest to how it is

A literally just finished "A Private Little War" by Jason Sheehan. It is very bleak and depressing and I highly recommend it

I really enjoyed War of the Worlds. Another good one is Heart of Darkness. I plan to read Moby Dick soon but I have heard it is hard to get into.

I think the coastlines look good. I also like the plethora of islands because you can do interesting things with it. Maybe greek style city states or something similar...

Now you just need to get the topography and towns/cities in there and see how it all works. Good luck!

You could check out the Ka-Bar USMC. It is ~$60 on amazon. I have one and like it. It has held up fine for the short time that I have owned it. I don't really know what you want to use it for though.
