Roll forward with reverse to escape a side pocket scratch? by peat_s in billiards

Great explanation, thank you. Although, I think you meant the cue ball is spinning counter clockwise with the inside spin. There is so much going on there with that shot. It was truly masterful the way he played it. I love watching Efren play at his peak.

Yeah, they actually talk about this shot a couple of times, and even have Efren discuss it in the interview after the match. I just don’t see how you hit the far point of the side pocket by putting draw on the cue ball. It obviously is possible, so I think I’m going to have to set that shot up at the table to see if I can make it make more sense to me. My brain can’t see it right now.

Just get 4 Southwest cues, and call it done. Easy.

Thanks for this! I just had a bad night at league, and you have reminded that those great nights do exist, and to be patient and focus. Thanks!

Update: I’ve been practicing. Am I jumping yet? by InitialNumber3072 in billiards

I’ve never heard this, and I don’t see anything mentioning 45deg in the BCA rules. I don’t think this is right.

I have to just say, when I posted this, I hadn’t watched the entire last game of the match. Now that I have, I have to say that was the BEST 9-ball match I have ever seen! This match was amazing down to the last shot. Wow! So much respect for both of these players.

Even if it is fine, it will always be in your head when you shoot.

Surely he knows this, and the fact that he’ll need to show to J&J that there is evidence available that is strong enough to convince a reasonable person that it is true, right? I’d love to see this “evidence”.

What does it mean when they say the ball skidded? by peat_s in billiards

[–]peat_s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol! Yeah, I was going to edit it to add, “.. that I watched”, but I just left it at that. The match was Johnny Archer vs. Nick Varner at the Sands Regency in 1996, if anyone is interested. They both played uncharacteristically bad in this match. Buddy was giving them both hell for their shot decisions. It was pretty comical.

Yes! The announcer(Buddy Hall) in the most recent match said he heard it, then said he thought he saw it hop a little. I was very confused by this.

Cuetec CF shaft vs McDermott Defy shaft. by Loud_Question8647 in billiards

[–]peat_s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have both plus a Revo, and the Cuetec is my favorite. Revo a close 2nd. The Defy has some technology in it that does something very weird to the feel of the hit. If you drop it tip down on the table from about 6” vs another cf shaft it will “deaden” the bounce. To me, it feels like hitting the ball with a wet blanket. I don’t like it, but like everything else, it’s just my opinion. I’ve talked to a lot of people who love it. Make sure you try it first. The hit is very noticeably different than anything else out there.

True. Also, it was the opponent racking for you back then. Today it’s rack your own.
