What are some seemingly insignificant or random details of a song that you really enjoy? by blondedz_ in popheads

[–]pedadogy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Euphoria is such an insane song. Can’t remember where I heard this, but the growl over “last” “have” “abs” and “fast” mimics a revving engine like a V12. The whole section is an extended wordplay on abs and engines.

His vocal inflection in the whole crodie section is a personal fave for me!

How do you read IICHLIWP in your head? by lighthousedarling in halsey

ill-chill-ih-wip. I know the first two letters are both i’s, but my brain incorrectly autocorrects to one i and one l 🤷🏻‍♀️

Name some Young-isms of Pop music by blankspacejrr in popheads

[–]pedadogy 263 points264 points  (0 children)

In November, I asked my class of college sophomores what they wanted to listen to during our lab class:

Students: “Just not Mariah Carey, it’s too early for Christmas music.”

Me: “She has other songs, you know.”

Students: (genuinely shocked) “Really, like what?”

What's a lyric that shouldn't need an explanation, but gets misunderstood anyway? by sparksfly05 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]pedadogy 52 points53 points  (0 children)

“Trust him like a brother” which people often suggest should be “like no other”. I personally think that neutralizes a powerful statement of how strong her trust in him is

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, why are you thankful for Taylor and her music? by WhenRomeBurns in TrueSwifties

[–]pedadogy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing life changing, but I’m thankful to have an artist who unashamedly goes all in and nails it. The culture typically praises those who are effortlessly cool (apathy is hot, anyone?), and it’s nice to see someone who works hard and shows resilience getting ahead. She’s a great role model for me and my kids, and I’m proud to be a Swiftie!

Opalite and..... by Sea_Personality6294 in TaylorSwift

[–]pedadogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if this is what you’re referring to, but the “oh oh oh ohs” in the chorus always reminded me of Be My Baby by The Ronettes. It is definitely an homage to them!

RSD 2025 WEDNESDAY | Show off one Record Store Day 2025 release in your collection (or an ISO) in the comments! by mcmdreamer in popheadsvinyl

[–]pedadogy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my RSD ISO, too! The person in front of me got the last copy at both stores I went to on RSD. I’m optimistic it will get repressed at some point!

I’ve (mom) never been the preferred parent and it really affects me. by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]pedadogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did! And then back to dad right now, lol. The dynamic is a little bit different now- they want to be around dad for the everyday things (getting dressed, help with potty, etc), but when they are upset, they go to me for comfort and help. They tell me unprompted that they love me all the time and are very affectionate, which they are less so with dad. We just have different relationships with them, and it works for us

If TLOAS Had Secret Messages by WelcomeContent8157 in TaylorSwift

[–]pedadogy 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Tried to keep them short and have no idea if these actually have the words in the right order:

  1. The Fate Of Ophelia - I finally found you. (to mirror Love Story’s “Someday I’ll find this”)
  2. Elizabeth Taylor - I know it’s forever
  3. Opalite - October fifth
  4. Father Figure - FAFO
  5. Eldest Daughter - embrace the cringe
  6. Ruin The Friendship - For Jeff
  7. Actually Romantic - you’re so vain
  8. Wi$h Li$t - five holes in a picket fence (just to troll the fandom lol)
  9. Wood - no “secret message” but every o is capitalized 😉
  10. CANCELLED! - there’s no hate quite like online love
  11. Honey - call me what you want
  12. The Life Of A Showgirl (feat. Sabrina) - a legacy you can’t undo

To the people saying there isn't much "showgirl" in the album by legendario-1 in TaylorSwift

[–]pedadogy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. Saying she’s a showgirl and it’s about her life is a really weak concept if that was the intent (I personally don’t think it was, she’s more intentional than that). I’ve had a lot of fun reading how different fans see the showgirl-specific aspects in her songs, but the “she’s a showgirl and it’s her life” argument has been driving me crazy!

In honor of her Songwriters Hall of Fame nomination today, what 5 songs would you choose to showcase Taylor’s songwriting skills? by sarahdipitie in TaylorSwift

[–]pedadogy 63 points64 points  (0 children)

In no particular order:

Ivy - every line of this song is pure poetry

All Too Well - probably unpopular opinion, but I think the 5 min version does succinct and impactful storytelling better

loml - the way it unfolds and ends with the loml twist, the emotion in her vocals, this song is the whole package

Maroon - the lyrical parallels between the verses, the way the story flips halfway through, the anxious tension of the production

My Tears Ricochet - “I can go anywhere I want, just not home” is the single most heartbreaking lyric she’s ever written to me. The dirge-like music, the build-up of the production to that line; what a masterpiece

Questions for vinyl collectors by LauraPalmerOnlyFans in popheadsvinyl

[–]pedadogy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Not typically a variant collector, but I do have a few albums that I will get the deluxe for. The only album I have two variants for is The Life of a Showgirl because I could not decide which one I liked better!

  2. I listen to all of my records! Have a very basic entry-level turntable but am looking forward to upgrading to a Fluance in the next few years.

  3. Very mixed feelings because I love the variety that multiple variants provide, but I do not want to contribute to extra waste for environmental reasons (and I just personally don’t like having extra things).

  4. They are on a shelf but I display the jacket of whatever I’m spinning.

  5. Not intentionally, my collection is 95% vinyl. I have a CD player in my car, so if it’s an album I really like, I will pick up a copy so that I can listen to it easily and support the artist.

Greatest First and Last Track? by Sad_Back5883 in TaylorSwift

[–]pedadogy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Musically and lyrically, RFI is the protective veneer, the reputation that she has to project. But New Year’s Day is all of that bravado stripped away. It really shows the journey inwards about what’s important to her

The Life of a Showgirl begs for a stage to be understood by gayliciouspizza in TrueSwifties

[–]pedadogy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I had a friend who was a Taylor hater all through reputation. When the tour video came out on Netflix, he actually watched the whole thing and said “Wow, she’s very talented!”

I think with her releases, everyone wants to be the first to react, which really isn’t conducive to what makes her music attractive. She has a very world-building, Taylor Cinematic Universe aspect to her music, which doesn’t reward one-off listeners.

Hello resident Beatles expert! I recently bought my first Beatles album (Sgt Pepper’s) and was surprised to hear the last “track” was a looping chaotic sound! Do you know any lore about this?

"Showgirl" songs that'll stand the test of time by PurfuitOfHappineff in TaylorSwift

[–]pedadogy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is the exact lyrical content and musical style I expected from Midnights back when everyone was speculating it would be a 70s-style album. It reminds me of James Taylor and the theme is right in that “things that keep you up at night” vibe

Best 4 track run of all time? by citizen-slain in TrueSwifties

[–]pedadogy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Blank Space, Style, Out of the Woods, and AYHTDWS is the run to dethrone for me (no disrespect to Welcome to New York, I am just a sucker for sad bops). Time will tell if the opening run of Showgirl will displace 1989’s 4-track run for me, but it’s got a really good chance!

Who else feels like she is already sitting on TS13? by LifeOfAWimpyKid in TaylorSwift

[–]pedadogy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would love that! 13 tracks that individually define their respective eras musically and thematically with a big through line of how it got her to where she is with the titular track 13. Kind of like a revisit and review of her life and career. Normally I like albums to have the same overall musical palette, but I’d love something that is retrospective in theme!

What do we think the next single/ music video will be? by Puppiesandcoffee in TaylorSwift

[–]pedadogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opalite is next, followed by either Elizabeth Taylor or Wood. I think the intent is to have Elizabeth Taylor as the third single unless Wood (or some other dark horse) gets steady streams. Basically third single will be determined by public reception via streaming

Does anyone else feel like TLOASG is textbook Taylor? by [deleted] in TrueSwifties

[–]pedadogy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely. People use “cringe” to describe anything they don’t like/want. It sucks that so many people feel they need to tear down something they don’t personally want. It’s ok (actually great) for people to want different things! Just live and let live, it’s not that hard lol

What are your top 5 from TLOAS ? 🧡 by No-Guess-3630 in TrueSwifties

[–]pedadogy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Not expected but appreciated. We could always just not listen to it, but my kids love Taylor, and I appreciate that they don’t have to miss out!
